I had trouble finding what happened to either Hawke's brother or sister should they have survived on the forums. I imagine they might still have a role to play in future games, but is there a lore explenation as to what Bethany for instance did after the end of Dragon Age II? 

I am curious to know if they, for instance, would've split from Hawke's side and followed their own path or disappeared along with Hawke him/herself. It seems odd Hawke would not tell her/his sibling where she/he was headed off to.

I think the fate of most companions was deliberately left vague to not tie the hands of the writers.
