Hey I'm new so I don't know if this gets talked about a whole lot but I was wondering.
Who actually sides with the templars? Not just for the game, like, you want to see what happens or you decided to play aggressive or something. Who actually feels personally like they side with Meredith. If they really were the champion they'd go with her. Anyone? Cause I can't see it.
Thoughts?

Interesting question. The Kirkwall events make it seem obvious that Templar Meredith was the city's major problem, so I doubt many (if any) people sided with her beliefs. However, Fenris and the fight with his Master suggested that Mages can also be trouble. While I didn't like Meredith, I actually almost sided with the Templers in the end.
I played as a Mage, so my natural choice was to side with them. However, another friend of mine had recently finished the game, and while he didn't tell me what happened, he did mention that he had trouble at the end because some of his companions abandoned him. He finally loaded an earlier save and replayed again to make his companions like him more. At the Mage-Templar choice scene I was not happy with Anders. When Varric, Fenris, and Aveline all said they didn't like Mages I was worried, especially since they were the team I planned to finish the game with. I first sided with the Mages, but when Aveline and Varric expressed their disapproval, and Fenris asked if I wanted to reconsider I was stunned.
I couldn't imagine finishing without my crack team - Varric and Aveline were my dependable sidekicks whenever I wanted folks I could trust. Basically I was stuck - I felt Meredith was the biggest threat and wanted to finish her first, but I wasn't sure I could do so without my best team (all my companions had high approval ratings, but Varric, Aveline, and Fenris were my favorites). However, even without my best team I had to kill Meredith, and I was scared that if I sided with her I would only kill the Mages and she would end the game alive.
I'm sure the time I spent making my choice wasn't too long (probably less than 2 minutes) - but it seemed to last forever! I finally chose the Mages, and was extremely happy when Varric and Aveline stuck with me. Actually one of my more memorable "gaming moments" was when Aveline basically said "I don't like the Mages, but I can see what you are trying to do and will stand with you". I was upset that Fenris didn't side with me, and I spent the "fighting-time" reaching the Mages hoping I wouldn't have to kill him. Fortunately Fenris sided with me when we reached the Mage area and he and Meredith appeared. With Fenris back I knew we couldn't lose.
I rather enjoyed the final act - and it was definitely not what I was expecting. Obviously everyone who plays will have a different view of the story, but for me it worked quite well. I did kill Anders, which after seeing what Meredith had become I regretted. I think that what he did was wrong - I was hoping I could just challenge Meredith 1 on 1 and end the problem like I did with the Arishok. I think I killed Anders in the hope it might get Fenris to side with me later, plus I wasn't sure how trustworthy he still was. Considering the situation at the end of the game, I regretted not letting him live - certainly his being alive wouldn't have made things any worse!

Your mother has been killed by a blood mage. You found out that the First Enchanter, who is in charge of the Circle, was CONSPIRING with the blood mage that killed your mother, even providing information on various blood magic related to the crime! Instead of turning them in, Orsino hid evidence of blood mages and deny their existance within the circle.
Meridith isn't spewing BS, it is true that Kirkwall has seen an increase in Blood Mage over the past year, and the Blood Mage spec in the Skill Tree provide more information on the fact. Plus, Meridith made a good point. An apostate destroyed the Chantry and killed the Grand Cleric. The citizens of Kirkwall will want mage blood spilt, apostate or not, and it is up to the Templar to lessen the damage of the potential battle that may happen against the Circle.
Yes, things could have happened differently, but given the options that I had, the Templar appealed to me much more. Justice has to be preserved, and the lives of some may sometime outweigh the lives of the many.
Plus, those mages who surrendered to me I let live, so it's not all a total lost
