Where is your source that says the first warden know about Bodhan?

It's sort of implied that since he leads the Grey Wardens he would have got all the reports and found Bodahn's name from there.

I don't have a source but it makes sense that he would find out about Bodahn through all the reports.  Even if all the reports said were "A Dwarven Merchant accompanied the Warden on his journy" that would be enough intel he needed to find out who Bodahn is, where he is, and if he was interested in working with the Wardens again. As I said Amaranthine and Kirkwall are trading rivals so since the Warden's own Amaranthine it would make sense that they would want eyes in the city.

The Wardens might be interested in Hawke his blood, since it was used for locking up Corypheus. But who knows that there isn't something else with it? This is where the Architect might come in.

It's a really fun theory.

Don't believe it at all - it fits well enough in Act 1 and Act 3, but not in act 2 without a lot of stretching - but I applaud the effort.

It's still possible. Never say never.

I like the idea of the Wardens sending Anders to Kirkwall. It works better than the Dickensian "one big coincidence" explanation than the game gives. It's believable that he found out Karl was there after he arrived, not before, and that it gave him the perfect cover.

After six years in Hellmouth as a possessed mage, however, I can't help but think that Anders took things much farther (and more suddenly) than anything the Wardens would have wanted. And if he's already spying on Hawke for the Wardens why would they need Bodahn and Sandal to do it? It makes sense if you kick Anders out but not so much if he's still traveling with you.

Still and all, it's a really fun conspiracy theory. Wardens are supposed to be apolitical but that doesn't guarantee that they are. It may be in the Order's best interests to bring the Chantry down a notch, particularly with a mage Warden in DA:O.

But the reports don't mention a dwarven merchant at all, we get to read them in DA2.

At the end of my Awakenings, my Warden ended up leaving the Grey Warden's behind a year after defeating the mother. And then about a year or so later, he went into a mirror with morrigan and never returned.

Perhaps hes a spy for the Grey Wardens in general?

Or for FLEMETH!?

Edit: Well, maybe not, but Sandal can see her!

The reason why Templars in Kirkwall cannot touch Anders is because he is a Grey Warden, not because of Hawke. Many people miss this point. Anders is not like any other mages. Even without Hawke, Anders still can blow up the Chantry, that is his job, that is the reason why he come to Kirkwall. Hawke appearance in Kirkwall is just an opportunity that Anders can take advantage in. He blow up the Chantry not because of the so called spirit tell him to, that is just an excuse.

Kelder case is a hint about DA2 actually, "...demon told me to do..."- Sarcastic Hawke

it could still have happened. He could have easily found out about Bodhn some other way

I can't bring myself to have any faith in Bioware's writing skills, so I doubt something like this would be true.

But I will implement it into my own headcanon.

In DA2, I just completed the Dark Epiphany Quest. You get some letters from a corpse on the wounded coast. The letter says they have a contact in Kirkwall. Now I was thinking it was about anders, but this person is unknown to any outsiders. Anders is well known, since Varric is the one that suggests we go to him to find an entry to the deep roads because hes a Grey Warden..So who is this contact? Bodahn?? Who knows..

I don't remember that quest. That being said I haven't played DA2 in months. I might go back at check it out

I haven't played DA2 in about a year, and DAO even longer. I recently had a craving to play, so I bought them in a bundle for 9 bucks. Best investment I've made in a game set so far :)

Not spying for the wardens, but for the Chantry. The spy here is Sandal, not Bodhan.

Would you expect Sandal to be a seeker for the chantry? Nope, and that's what makes him so god damn effective. While you were busy off doing nothing of great importance Sandal was bustin' down doors and taking names for the Divine.

Sandal was doing so good at staying hidden that the Dvine thought he was dead; she had to send Leliana in at that point. After filling in Leliana on the situation they made sweet, sweet love on Hawkes bed and made it look like the dog did it.

I started playing PC games again...mainly because Digital Downloads have better deals. Origin app, Gamestop app, and even the steam app, have great deals. Usually the Gamestop app has the best tho. Thats where I got my copies.

Yeah. I never understood why Hawke is forced to provide free lodging and meals to him since the beginning of Act 2. This must be the reason,

like I said to somebody else it is likely the First Warden, or even Alistair/Loghain could have sent Bodahn there. Even Stroud may be a possibility.

Bodahn would not gladly serve as a willing spy for the grim, demanding Grey Wardens. If he provides information or useful deeds for anyone, it's likely that he's only operating as he knows best how to -- as a merchant and explorer. He does not seem the equivalent of any of the adventuring companions, although Sandal might be more puissant than either of the protagonists, Warden and Hawke.

I do remember a piece of text describing the Grey Wardens as having a spy somewhere, but that was from a long time ago and might not have been anything official nor even final. It might have been an idea for Leliana that never came to fruition. Does anyone else remember such a thing?

As a merchant and explorer are the reasons why he would be a good canidate as a spy. Having the Wardens infiltrate the Dwarven Merchant's Guild would help out Amaranthine compete with Kirkwall. They are both traders in Thedas and both are close to each other.

can you find the text. I don't think I've seen it.
