So, I'm trying to earn my Mathmagician banner, and I have no other choice but to use the Paladin, since I don't have a huge variety of characters to choose from to earn the banner.  The problem is I'm pretty awful at playing this guy.  I'm certain that the only reason I do any damage at all is because I carry around a Piranha shotgun.  I mostly die a lot.  I'm fine on Silver, I guess, but if I have to do this on Gold...well....Any tips on best weapons/builds?  If possible, I'd like to get both my Shield Drain, and my Snap Freeze badges with him.  But I'm okay with just Snap Freeze, as I do well with my Salarian Engineer.

If you do good with him on Silver, stick with Silver.

-Snap Freeze will come quickly enough; just spam it on everything.
-Also, this guy is amazing for the TechSplosion challenges. Just alternate between Snap Freeze and Incinerate for infinite chains of Fire/Cryo Explosions.

I run a 6/6/6/5/3 build for maximum 'splodiness, with a Collector AR for personal preference. It's also worth noting that I wouldn't be caught dead with this build on Gold, what with the lack of Fitness points.

I wish I had a video showing my point of view, but maybe you can pick up some useful tactics from this

my favorite build is the incinerate-less paladin. I take melee damage on fitness 4 because +30% melee seems to be more economical than 15% health. cryo shield is much loved on this forum, but I think the flame shield can be great too, as I rarely use the cryo shield to debuff enemies.

the shield bash is one of the best melee attacks in the game. For phantoms, just energy drain and bash them a few times.

abuse the heck out of snap freeze. close in on distant enemies with ED. Don't feel bad about using a piranha. the paladin's powers are more for crowd control/debuffing than damage dealing. I usually carry a hurricane/talon.

you don't need to set your shield to block banshee warp balls. Just a correctly timed light melee will block it.

I just beat stuff to death with the double shield cancel. Go to deploy the shield on the ground, but while in the animation, press the melee button again to quickly cancel out of it, and then you'll get another follow up melee after that without any delay between them. Very fun, especially since he gets 100% damage reduction from the front while using the melee attack.

I have 3 points in incinerate and 5 in passive. I use a Hurricane. Energy and snap freeze are awesome. Cryo explosions everywhere. Incinerate when stuff is out of snap freeze range. Beat stuff to death with shield. I prefer the cryo one myself.

snap freeze + drain shield on shielded enemy = cryo explosion
snap freeze + incinerate = cryo explosion
incinerate + snap freeze = fire explosion?
fire shield + snap freeze = fire explosion
freeze shield + incinerate = cryo explosion?

I wouldn't skip incinerate. It's great for combos.

I use a 6/5/4/5/6 build on my Paladin along with a Paladin (ironic?) with the mag upgrade and piercing mods. Soloing Cerberus is super easy and if you have the fire shield upgrade Dragoons become a breeze. After they melee, use Snap Freeze for a fire explosion and repeat. Also, like someone said above, he is the master of tech explosions. I think detonating them nets you more points for the individual power challenges too. Hope this helps!
