Speculation on the Big Bad
#1

So who are the likely candidates for the Big Bad that will be the mastermind behind all the chaos?
Flementh sees that most popular one according to the forums. But I actually think she is unrelated to all this. She has her own plans that haven't been explain. After all, she helps Hawke and The Warden. Why? Ditto for Morrigan.
The Wardens: There is currently a nice little conspiracy theory about this on these forums. What exactly was Stroud and Nathaniel doing?
Mages/Templars: Extreme Factions that could have masterminds manipulating everything.
And then, my personal favourite theory, because it's a bit of curveball: The Friends of Red Jenny. We know nothing about them, but they have appeared in two games. I tend to view them as a kind of mafia (which is complete speculation) but it would neat if Red Jenny was behind everything.
Any other likely candidates? Anyone of the above seem undeniable?

when the dust settles and the smoke clears, the real "evil" in the Dragon Age universe will be mortal-kind.
Agreed. The Orlesians are behind it all.

That will make it awkward if you are an Orlesian in the game... unless... the Inquisitor is the Big Bad and you end up killing yourself (PS:T anyone?)
Orlesians can't be heroes. That's a fact. Loghain told me so.
If we're Orlesian, then we'll be playing as the villain, just like anyone who started a new character in Awakening.

truth come in to put order back into kirkwall, because of the destruction of the chantry and the grand cleric as well as the decimation of the templars. That could allow
for different races taking up sides with different factions (city guard, chantry, nobles, elves, Qunari, various guilds, etc.) all trying
to influence the Seekers to there factions cause. That could allow all
the races, elves dwarves qunari human, and all classes fighter rogue
mage, templar, chantry cleric, maybe even a member of the seekers. Wow a
Qunari talvasoth seeker who gave up his belief in the Qun for the teachings of the chantry, all very interesting and all great to play. That way you could assist Cassandra or subvert her mission which most likely is to find Hawke and get the truth of what happened in Kirkwall. Or maybe join with the nobles or the city guard, or some free mages to drive the seekers out of the city and make it truly free. As each of those races or Origins if you will start with a small background and each ends up in kirkwall as the seekers of truth arrive.
I would be interested in seeing what the rest of you have as ideas for whats coming and what you think of what I am hoping gets delivered.

But hm. I dunno. Would be interesting if one party thinks they are pulling the strings, when they are just another puppet for a stronger party, so to speak.
*mind is blown*

Flemeth-Sees the future and gets Hawke to Kirkwall in order to start the mage war. Being able to see the future is a pretty convenient way to justify insanely convoluted plans.
I don't think Flemeth sees the future, I think she's dangerously smart and is able to predict (not with magic, but intelligence) what are possible outcomes because if she could predict the future, she would know at Sundermount if Morrigan had actually killed her other aspect? Piece? Whatever no so far it has only been proven that she is very, very smart and very, very powerful and not psychic.

Greed and hubris are the forces most at work behind the negative forces currently in play.
Pre-DA2, i could agree. But in DA2 something was quite obviously pulling the strings, whether it be the relic from the primeval thaig or [if you read the codex entries] the fact that the barrier between the fade and the real world was almost nonexistant in Kirkwall, and the resulting mage/templar war is almost guaranteed to shred the barrier in the entire world.
obviously, something somewhere benefits. And there's your big bad.
