I recently discovered old.dragonagecentral.com/single/1250476260 while looking for information on marriage and the Dalish for well, tbh fanfiction writing.  I was wondering if anyone had any insights or information as to what marriage might be like for the Dalish besides well, "its not like human or city elf marriage"?

Basicly the question is; How does romance and marriage work for the Dalish specificly?

Well if you have played the game...and went to Dalish camp you would know it is more of a bond...also, Dalish Elves will be kicked out of their clan if they choose to love a human...because the blood of the Dalish is to be pure and be able to be traced back to the first elves(like the Keeper). Oh and also...human and elves, when they have children, they will always be human.

Yeah that much I know. I'm looking for more specific details.

I wonder if that would be the same for Dalish Wardens as well since there is the whole bit about Grey Wardens not being able to reproduce?

Do you have a source for the bit about Dalish being kicked out of their clans if they choose to romance humans?  I would think it would have come up in game if you play a Dalish PC and romance a human NPC but it hasn't for me.

Which is a lie...but that is a huge spoiler for the book....and even in the game. It is unheard of that Grey Wardens have kids...and as a Dalish, you are still a Dalish but no longer a Dalish, if you catch my drift, you are a Grey Warden first and foremost, a Dalish second..

That's what I'm wondering as well since I have play a Dalish three times to the endgame, romancing Alistair each time and nothing about romancing humans being a big no-no came out.

Because you are a Grey Warden...nothing more...your race/origins don't really count and no one in the Grey Wardens really care lol and you left your camp behind because of what happened to you.

Dragon Age: Origins Wiki

The children of elves and humans
are always human. As the elves are a dying race, there is a great deal
of pressure for each member to produce children. Relationships with
humans are considered traitorous and anyone who has a child with a
human may be kicked out of the community.

But really, because you are a Grey Warden and a Dalish..it does not matter...as you said...Grey Wardens can't have kids anyways.

I think what I'm really wondering is how does it work (with specifics) for the general Dalish community, and not for Wardens since Grey Wardens no matter the background seem to have their own separate rule set.

Though I find it odd since if it is such a big taboo that it doesn't even come up. My other thought is that since most Dalish have so little contact with humans anyways that there aren't taboos for that like there is for city elves since they might just not be around humans enough normally for it to be an issue?

Well Grey Wardens from the perspective of the PC can't have kids.

But i am wondering... they "cant" or they just assume they cant have children... the grey wardens.

Someone on the swooping_is_bad LJ community said that David Gaider confirmed that 2 Wardens cannot have children without magical intervention but she did not post a source for this, but I can ask.

Well, there's actual dialogue in the game about whether 2 Gray Wardens (2 humans at least) can reproduce.

But that's 2(!) wardens... However they NEVER say that a warden can't reproduce with a non-warden...

The only notice about such a setup is actually stating it very possible...

However it might be improbable, less fertile or whatnot...

However I can't get into it since it's major spoilers, not the little dialogue but the events around it atleast^^

Having these kinds of discussions in a no-spoiler area of the forum is tricky and non-conclusive...

Suffice to say that yes wardens probably CAN reproduce, just not with another warden.. Guess the taint is too much in 2 tainted parents... Ohhh look, the baby is born! Hooray...ehhh.....

"What is it, a boy or girl?"

"Uhm it seems to be neither... Rather a Hurlock dear... Let's kill it!"

Would be bad, so better not doable at all... ;)

As on topic: What parts are You interested in?

The actual Ceremonies, the family setup, or what?

Both the actual ceremonies and family setup.

Its my bad for posting it in possibly the wrong  forum. It really belongs in a "might have game spoilers but is a general forum" but I couldn't find such a beast.

edit: if there is a better place for this discussion, if a mod could please move it there, it would be greatly appriceated.

I play as Dalish and I romanced Morrigan. If you accept her ritual before the final battle, you will have a child. And if you play as dwarf noble, you can have another one in Orzammar.

I think it'd be fair to say-Dalish would make allowances for the Dalish who were Wardens. It's not like they can return to their tribe, so it'd be reasonable to make allowances.
