Curious what people like to equip their archers with in the game.

I'm currently using +2 arrows -- I see them as a good compromise between cost and their additional accuracy/damage (with no saving throw) and ability to hit magic-weapons-only creatures.

My 2nd favorite is fire arrows -- if for no other reason than the cool-looking tracers that remind me who is shooting at what.   If they didn't have a saving throw they'd be my favorite.

In vanilla +2 arrows don't have any additional damage. I don't normally buy magic arrows, but just collect them from encounters - they only get used to hit things like vampiric wolves.

Of the elemental damage arrows acid are my favourite as they have no saving throw - neither do cold, but they do marginally less damage. They are really useful for interrupting spells - particularly if you're playing with BGT and nearly all the mages have stoneskins up.

Bolts of Polymorphing - can it get any cooler than that? :)

I liked acid arrows in the tougher encounters because they do quite a bit of extra damage. Arrows of biting can be good too, but you don't get a lot of those. Agree fire arrows looks cool, but acid is even more effective.

Of course if you're worried about mages then buy a few arrows of dispelling. All their buffs will disappear instantly when hit by one of those, leaving them an easy kill.

But if they are Protected vs Magical Weapons (and they often are) the Dispelling Arrows doesn't work and you are in big trouble... Well, at least in my last no-reload Mazzy tried them vs Tolgerias and even when they *hit* him they doesn't dispell anything...

EDIT: OK...they are considered to be non-enchanted so PvMW shouldn't stop them BUT if enemy mage wear something like Mantie or Absolute Immunity... Now I think that was the reason in my case.

Plain arrows for 99% of the game. Dispelling for Sarevok and Angelo.
Bolts of polymorphing for Sarevok (doomed and malisoned if possible).

I'd probably change my mind if there were an easier way to swap missile types mid battle.

In my game it is Chapter 5 and I've got 60,000 gold to burn, so I've switched to magic arrows and bullets.

Fire and Ice arrows have the special benefit of leaving tracers. This both looks cool and during the chaos of combat it is useful for knowing who is shooting and at what.

Fire says +2 THAC0 and 1D6 fire damage that can be saved vs. spell.

Ice has no THAC0 bonus but does 1D6 cold damage, no save.

Since my archers have better THAC0's than my tanks anyway, I'm going with Ice arrows, unless someone knows of them not counting as magical weapons against creatures that are immune to non-magical weapons.

I have a modded game where there are arrows of freezing. They hold the victim if he doesn't save.

Very useful! However even with the mod they are in short supply, about 80 max, so are only used against enemies who are powerful.

I think the mod they come from is Dark Horizons, but not sure about that. When I first picked them up I thought they were the same as arrows of ice as they look the same. Wasted them in my first game!! :(
