First I would like to know how to do this and second I would like to hear other thoughts on setting tactics.

Sure thing. (I'm on XBOX 360)
In your character menu, there is a "head" icon. In this screen you'll see your characters various stats, and level bar, and so on. It is in this screen that you hit "y" (the tactics button). This will load for the tactics screen for the character you currently have selected in that screen. RB changes characters in this screen.
The tactics can get pretty in depth. Once you get used to them, they can be pretty handy. You'll probably find yourself changing the tactics for certain people (like mages) often, as they learn new spells, and your group encounters new enemy groups.
To understand the tactics, think of it like a really basic "IF, THEN" statement. For instance:
IF condition A = true, THEN perform this action.
So, a few examples ...
You can also use Tactics to set up combos ...
I'm by no means a master, but hopefully this helps!
Be peaceful on your way,

IF condition A = true, THEN perform this action.
So, a few examples ...
- IF self, health < 25% THEN use least powerful health poultice
- IF Enemy, class = Mage, THEN use spell Affliction Hex
- IF Enemy, ATtacking Ally (Morrigan) THEN use ability Mighty Blow
You can also use Tactics to set up combos ...
- IF Enemy, class = Mage, THEN use spell Affliction Hex
- IF Enemy, class = Mage, THEN use spell Winter's Grasp
- IF Enemy, class = Mage, THEN use spell Lightning

There are some amazing threads on tactics and they truly helped me a lot! I suggest a quick search in the forum with the proper function which is now working!
