Instead of the constant back-and-forth bickering in threads about the game being too difficult or screaming "play better", how about we do something practical that should improve the skills of the community altogether?

I propose a system where veteran/skilled players take rookies and/or less skilled players under their wing(s).

I play exclusively on xbox and most randoms have mics to communicate with teammates. Veterans can help the rookies hone their MP skills on bronze/silver levels. Note that this shouldn't consist of carrying a team or leeching for credits.

I feel that when the playerbase's skill improves, the MP community will be less divisive. Theoretically, there should be less carrying, leeching, kicking "unworthy" randoms from lobbies and less lobby-filling time.

If you don't wish to participate, that's fine and dandy, but please don't post cynical comments or anything unproductive to the thread/cause. This is just an idea but other suggestions are more than welcome.

Here is a list of those willing to help others so far. If you would like to be added to the list to PROVIDE assistance to others, please send me a PM with your info. I've just adopted a rookie, so if I'm not available to help. Please don't take it personally.

Please note: It is MANDATORY that you have a mic!

ooh, bummer, this past weeked would have been great, since there was no operation... but then again, with an operation coming up this weekend, maybe it's a good time. Not that I'd necessarily be a good teacher (and I still haven't got a microphone), but I like your idea and give you a +1.

I second this. Really nice idea, finally someone who goes the constructive way. I do not dare to call myself a skilled player, but I've been playing for a while now and I feel I could help new players finding their way. And I surely would have liked someone to do that with me, back in the days.
So, I'm in! :)

Well guys, I tried. It seems as if this thread is being ignored in the forum lol. Maybe I should have posted something more controversial/troll-worthy?

Anything Trollworthy gets attention. Change the title to COLLECTORS NEED MORE EXPLOSIONS, then see how many views you get.

As far as the idea goes, it's a good one. One problem though. What about people such as myself, who are plenty capable of topping a scoreboard on silver, however are unwilling to move up to gold because they have certain insanely risky tactics.

This is a pretty good idea. I would be down to train some less skilled players on PS3...but it is mandatory that they have a mic.

Then go play as normal, but try telling randoms you play with not about tactics, but about game mechanics they are likely unaware of.

I'd bet my manifest that most people have no idea of all the things you can do with the TC damage window.
I'd bet my manifest that most people have no idea TC has a damage window, and believe it to work for only one shot.

Do stuff like that. Tell people that you can avoid a banshee's grab by standing on a ramp above or below it.
Tell people that you can blow up a Scion's sacs to stagger it and deal bonus damage.
Tell people the Collectors have HUGE heads.
Tell people where the spawns are.
Tell people where good camp spots are.

I'm sure we can think of many, many more.
If they don't have a mic, talk away anyway. They might mic up in interest, but at least they'll be listening. If they don't that's their fault.

I regularly play with people who have an N7 well below 120 and give them a boost where I can. Its not really about "training" or anything like that (I laugh at that concept for a video game) but just getting them some experience playing and not dying all the time. I shadow them, beat down some bad guys to a level where they can pot shot them and move on. After a while they get the hang of it and I dont have to club them down to a level where its too easy.

And before I know it they are off swimming on their own and surviving while doing plenty of damage. It makes me so proud.

I have no mic (and for good reason, why would I really want to talk to most people on Live) so talking to them is hard but they catch on quick with my AJA who is set up to prime BDs but not actually make them go boom. The glowing is a nice tattle tail for them and they toss in a warp or a throw and BOOM then they laugh or cheer or say WTF but they learn.

I already do this.
I find new players in Bronze, host a private match and essentially play medic and help with whatever they need/want to know.

Define "rookie". I usually play Gold with general success but I've never been able to past wave 3 of platinum. Does that mean I'm average?

I'd consider you slightly above average. To me, the average player is able to handle silver decently, but is not yet capable of a gold run without at least 3 good teammates.

Good question. Believe it or not, most intermediate players like yourself are quite fond of topping the scoreboard on silver but fall victim to the game's system.

Mostly, there needs to be teamwork collectively with other players in a match and communication whenever possible. Use powers and shoot guns from cover (and learn how to run from cover to cover) and make it a habit. Exposing yourself completely (especially on higher difficulties) is almost a guarantee that you will be downed immediately.

Lastly, be aware of your surroundings (auditory and visual) to make sure you arent being flanked. Tunnel vision and focusing on one enemy at a time is a bad habit to break but it's necessary. Survey your environment at regular intervals, preferably while in cover. There's a reason why we're able to pan the camera 360 degrees.

Well, I think this is just part of learning to play higher difficulties. In Bronze you're rewarded for playing extremely aggressively, Silver less so, but you can still get away with a lot of running around on Silver. Really the only difference to me in Gold is that you have to utilize cover (hard and soft) a lot more effectively, and your loadout matters more. I assume if you can top Silver that you know how to make good power selections/loadout choices, so it just becomes an issue of figuring out when to use insane heroism and when to allow your team to help you.

no it doesnt it means you havent developed the right tactics. if you can do gold then your skill is most likely high enough just different tactics required on plat and good gear

Yeah, I agree that a mic should be mandatory. No way I'm passing information through chat.

Tntk252, if you reliably top the score on silver game *and* work for the success of the mission at the same time, I'm pretty sure you could be able to help newcomers a lot. Not up until gold, but you could make the transition from bronze to silver much easier.

Finally, OP, don't look at other trollworthy posts as an example of the number of posts an active topic should have. You've had quite some answers in merely half an hour, don't let hopes die ;)

im willing to play with some new players on xbox for some platinum games. My friends always want to play gold but i find gold doesnt have enough difficulty or enemies for 4 players.

Give me your GT if interested and if your a silver player or gold player ill help you build any character you like for platinum. (except the volus adept, drell vanguard, and quarian female engineer)

I got a good laugh at this and think you would be perfect for adopt a rookie. I generally play a very agressive high risk high reward style on gold and platinum and would certainly be willing to show you if you wanted to learn.

i politely disagree. the more you move around on gold you spread the enemy. this is dependant on player skill and the knowledge of spawns but i find this works for me but probably not everyone

I'm in for learning to play on Platinum. Which classes are the most effective? Or least punished?
