I'm in for learning to play on Platinum. Which classes are the most effective? Or least punished?
it depends what do you think you are best with and why and most important what do you enjoy. its always easier to improve if your enjoying it

As far as the idea goes, it's a good one. One problem though. What about people such as myself, who are plenty capable of topping a scoreboard on silver, however are unwilling to move up to gold because they have certain insanely risky tactics.
Well, I think this is just part of learning to play higher difficulties. In Bronze you're rewarded for playing extremely aggressively, Silver less so, but you can still get away with a lot of running around on Silver. Really the only difference to me in Gold is that you have to utilize cover (hard and soft) a lot more effectively, and your loadout matters more. I assume if you can top Silver that you know how to make good power selections/loadout choices, so it just becomes an issue of figuring out when to use insane heroism and when to allow your team to help you.
i politely disagree. the more you move around on gold you spread the enemy. this is dependant on player skill and the knowledge of spawns but i find this works for me but probably not everyone
Plat and I dont get along very well and never have but its because of how I like to play. I love the Infiltrator and I love snipers. It makes me happy to hide in the corner and be ignored while potshotting some nasty thing in the face with a high powered rifle and then moving on to the next.
Sure its "camping" but thats kind of what snipers do in most cases. Pick a nest and kill everything you can see. Doesnt work out so well on Plat when my buddies drag banshees to me for the fun of it.
But yes play mobility makes a huge difference if you know how to use it. Being mobile trains of death can make you cruise through Plat games but one slip up and you could end up dooming your whole team. Same thing with "camping". Either you pull it off perfectly and mow them down before they get to you (which I love) or they get among you and your ideas get lost in the wind that vents from a Volus's suit after it goes pop.
You have to play to your own strengths. If you are great at those one hit kills with a sniper then stick with it, if you club people to death with your face then do that. Whatever makes you comfortable playing is what you should play with, dont stick with cookie cutter builds simply because "thats how everybody is doing it", not a good reason. Play to your strengths and hope your teammates (if in a PUG) can work with it and you with them (two way street).

My gamertag is the same as the forum name, Deerber. I play on PC. I'm able to teach the way up until gold.

While a lot of the time now we only get two choices - keep on the move and use cover when you can or get over run and die. The problem I see happens more on small maps when one is always on the move is it doesn't take long before you will be completely surrounded. The problem isn't so bad if the team is moving as one but really how often does that happen outside a private group?

EDIT: Oh right, the actual subject matter. My handle's gridwalk and I can give people pointers on Silver and could use some myself on Gold. Platform's PC.

Well guys, I tried. It seems as if this thread is being ignored in the forum lol. Maybe I should have posted something more controversial/troll-worthy?
It's not that it's a bad idea it's just that no one wants to put in the effort to train newbs in a video game on a video game forum. It seems like work for a game that's supposed to be fun. Also how do we help out the truly bad players who don't post here? Most forumites should be able to help themselves with all the guides and whatnot around these parts. Also I help in a myriad of ways with the boards offering suggestions as do others. But to actually handhold someone? That's something else entirely.
