Well guys, I tried. It seems as if this thread is being ignored in the forum lol. Maybe I should have posted something more controversial/troll-worthy?

It's not that it's a bad idea it's just that no one wants to put in the effort to train newbs in a video game on a video game forum.  It seems like work for a game that's supposed to be fun.  Also how do we help out the truly bad players who don't post here?  Most forumites should be able to help themselves with all the guides and whatnot around these parts.  Also I help in a myriad of ways with the boards offering suggestions as do others.  But to actually handhold someone?  That's something else entirely.

/firstworldproblems

not really but i understand what you are saying.
teaching should be easy.
1 discuss builds and what works well etc in the lobby
2 teacher dies straight away and watches pupils (lol)
gives tips about the scenarios they are in and advice on bettering there play style.
3 points out weaknesses in enemies, spawn points, weak points, tactics
simples

On a serious note, those of you (us) who do "adopt" a player, make sure to actually help them. It won't be of much use if you screw off with your platinum character killing everything in two seconds, leaving the adopted player without so much as an enemy in sight.

Alot of players hwo are having trouble and who do visit this site don't say anything or see suggestions for how to play better as people being elitist and trying to tell them how to play. I think the OP has a great idea we just need to people who really want help to ask for it.

Also those who are looking for help should come in with specifics such as a class you like, but maybe not feel comfortable with it or something like that. With specific problems and goals to achieve it would make helping others alot easier and more effective.

And if your 'student' is using a tech/Biotic class, go another class, similar to them in order to help them set up explosions and give better examples.

good point. there should be a post where players who need help post the issue and then the more experienced can check this post and advise or help

Reminds me of a question, do you think it turns people off to hear a girl giving advice, especially since it's a video game? I mean, even if it does, I'm not going to stop - if I can get even just one player to be marginally less useless, it makes a game that much more fun. But they often ignore me until half the game has gone by and I solo most of wave 6 or what have you.

Like telling people to get out of the center on Rio. They ignore me until they all get flanked and killed. Is it because they needed to see that they sucked (by dying) or that they needed to see that the girl doesn't (by soloing)?

Don't tell me not to post cynical bull****.

Who decides who qualifies as skilled/veteran and who qualifies as a noob? How does either side broach the subject? Consider two possibilities:

"Hi, you seem to really suck at this game based on your posts. Want to play this weekend?"
or
"Hi, I really suck at this game and would like to learn more. Teach me, oh great wise one!"

Which is more likely to appear on BSN, based on what you've seen so far? This is just going to lead to more cries of elitism. That's already what happens when someone says "[X weapon or class] sucks!" and people try to offer advice on making [X weapon or class] effective. If that advice was paired with "Let me show you," people would be all the more whiny.

I don't have a better alternative, but I don't think this would promote peace as you expect it to.

t

Sadly for some players they still don't believe women can game at all and probably do ignore it a female player says things that will help them. If people truly want to get better it wouldn't and shouldn't matter who is teaching them as long a they are learning and geting better.

I play all classes and kits  -- I get bored if I play more than a few games in a row with the same character, which likely contributes to me not doing so well on Gold, since it always takes a while to get into the groove of things when switching between radically different playstyles. Anyways, I'm more interested in more general points on tactics that may not be obvious to someone used to Silver, such as how to effectively handle the higher concentration of heavies.

Man, I'm always more likely to listen to girls. Guys just spike up my territorial instincts, but with girls I'm all puppy breath and rainbows.

I'm this guy, essentially, sans the ****:

While this is true in most cases at least these type of topic are being presented so if there are plyers who truly want any advice there is a place to go. I could care less about peace between elitist and noobs, but people who want to get better should go to other players and those who want to help need to give actual advice that will help and not tell the player they are doing it wrong and that they suck.

Considering the last female I played with nearly doubled my score with only an Eagle, I'd say I've learned to listen to them.

... I think that was supposed to be misogyny. But anyway. I know that this mp player base is significantly more mature than the majority of game communities out there, especially since I'm on PC instead of console. But just because it's less doesn't mean it's not there. I know there are lots of people out there who don't mind competent girls, and I am glad that you are one of them.

Is there a faction in particular that you find the heavy untis more challenging? I assume you are talking about the heavier spawns of gold level heavy untis.

I hardly have any space left on my Origin friendslist, but if you see me in a gold lobby (PC, Djeckeraero) and give me a heads up about your newbie status, I'll help you out over the mic and stuff.

Not a bad idea; I myself could use some advice on certain character builds, so maybe it is a good idea to have a build guide made by the best players of the class/character.

How about post what character builds you are looking for advice on and see what the community says. Maybe someone will make a video or invite you to play.
