Yes, you heard me. Buff the Dragoon, buff its AI, so that he takes cover at least once in a while, to give us a small reprieve from his Hornet CXXXVIII, and smash spam.

We get it, BioWare, you want a unit that can reliably bust us from cover. Ok, no problem with that.

You gave him a run speed over 9000 FTL. I'm still ok with that.

You gave him the ability of shooting accurately his Hornet while staggerlocking you with his smash. Still ok.

But seriously, make him take cover. Not much. Just when he gets LoS on the player, for instance. That'd be enough for me. Not for long, maybe half a second.

But please don't make him act like a ****** running to his death.

Discuss. (If you disagree, fine, but I hope we can have a civil conversation)

Agreed. Or exchange is armor for health+barriers.

I'd almost consider this to be a nerf to him. Most of the reason I have trouble dealing with Dragoons is because of my tendency for one-shot weapons and his tendency to sprint around like a hamster on caffeine.

I'd like to see him close the distance and take cover in between smashes, but instead of his pea shooter give him a shotgun. Only Guardians have a "shotgun" and they are precisely zero threat unless you mistakenly back up into them.

Cerberus needed some mobility. This is a great unit that fits in the lore. They aren't very scary, just a pain to target. A slight buff maybe, but really because Cerberus is still a pushover on Gold.

I still maintain that if Nemesis AI was fixed to be more dangerous (grouping up), some kind of dangerous melee; that would fix the easiness of the race.

Don't agree. Dragoons are excellent blitzkrieg units. They're there to punish you do not watching your six, which they do spectacularly. I tell people over the mic which waves they spawn on and they still get smashed to death

If you want buffed AI on the dragoon, it's gotta take a hit elsewhere. Either lose armor points, armor get's changed to barrier/ health or whatever.

Yes, except on small maps like Glacier, Jade, etc.. You can be sure that by the time you kill 3 Dragoons, 3 other Dragoons have respawned and are just behind you.

Sure, you can control spawns, but do you really expect a PuG team to do that effectively? Screwing up spawns is a PuG's specialty. Watching your 6 is nice and all, but if they respawn within 15 meters, you barely have the time to turn around.

I'm all for a Nemesis buff. They're why Cerberus was considered a joke pre patch.

Even with armor they are one of the weakest enemies. They are easier to take down than an enemy with two levels of protection as long as you have a decently heavy hitting weapon. They are also easily staggered.

I'll never understand why they are only armor with no health; they aren't a synthetic or true Reaper-ized creature.

But taking cover can also be a nerf in a lot of situations, take infiltrators for example:

"oh look, a Dragoon"

Throw any power or shoot once.

Dragoons goes into cover

Sniped.

Reason I think they are only armor is to allow them to fullfill their function as a rushdown unit to complement the phantom.  If they weren't armor, Stasis would stop them in their tracks like it does every cerb unit.

Agreed. Once people go through waves kiting the Cerberus army and going through spawn budgets on suicidal Dragoons it might change. :P

no you sound silly....

for people who dont spam stuff like you do, they are difficult

to be able to lunge, lash and shoot at practically the same time should be fixed, not to mention that they are too aggressive in terminals like they have no regard for their own lives. and they can stomp on you too when you are down, that is too much power for one particular unit IMO

They also are the perfect partner for a Phantom.  Think of the Phantoms like Field Commanders of the melee unit, and the Dragoons are the foot soldiers.  3 of them for every 1 Phantom and they swarm people in classic "Bee" fashion.

So basically, you agree with me. Ok, cool.

I agree, this would actually help alleviate the swarming. As it is they just sprint from spawn to player and stay there. They don't even run or try to take cover like phantoms do when they are about to die. It's stupid.

Can armored units even take cover? I wonder...

Well, since they have only armor and no shields or barriers to regen, it doesn't make as much sense for them to take cover when injured. But it does so that they don't just go flying off without the rest of their troops to die.

I just don't understand how they can see through cloak, or keep running while I am shooting at them continuously. They are not impossible to take down, if you either have a decent gun, biotic powers or a Kroguard, or you have distance between you and them and a clear line of sight, or they are focused on another teammate, it is just that you often don't get a chance to do it if they come running up to you. Often they are almost literally on top of you before you even notice they are closing in, as you're probably working on other targets. Being overrun by a horde of Dragoons is about as bad as having 4+ Phantoms running around the corpses of your three teammates.

If I shoot them in the face, I want them to stagger, not just spam lash at me like the drugged out Cerberus freaks that they are. Even if they supposedly feel no pain, the physical force should throw them back. Heck, if even the Krogan can be staggered, why not the Dragoon?

And yes, if they take cover, I may have time to reload between the first and second Dragoon.

Also, I wouldn't mind a way to stagger them reliably. Only thing I've found that constantly works is a Fully charged Kishock Harpoon.

I agree, but not because I think this would be a real buff to a Dragoon outside of making them live slightly longer.

The closing speed is just outlandish. On Dragoon waves you end up spending the entire wave budget on the Dragoon trio that shows up over and over again.

I find it really cool that they actually do the heavy melee smash cancelling thing that some players do to increase their DPS during cooldown.

But yeah, something needs to be done about their speed of approach, or failing that, SOUND. I would accept no nerfs at all if they actually made some noise.

So basically ....tweak it then?  I'm all for it  Playing against the different factions this weekend, the Dragoons do stand out as....umm.....pretty much "unfinished", in the AI area.

Also please give them a unique voice.  Sounding like a Centurian, is down right insulting to the Dragoons.  It would also give players an auditory "cue" as well.
