I'd like to see someone play it on Super Hardcore mode.

Super Hardcore: When you die, you delete the game and never play it again.

You've got more patience than I do that's or sure. I've started over a mess of times due to bad decisions with a build or something, or just getting lulled into trying a different class in the middle of a playthrough. I've also played with a personal no injuries rule everytime other than the first, but having to start from scratch after a wipe? Too much for me. Congrats to you for having the patience to deal with that.

I don´t see the point in playing that way. If it´s more fun for you, that´s nice for you, but to me it isnt.

And to those who mean its more realistic: Until a game is not as realistic as to let me blow up an entire army of a few thousand ogres / revenants / other hard bosses with a single spell, I dont want the realism to start anew after death.

Same goes for combat as warrior: If I cant even parry and strike at the throat or other important parts for insta-kill, I dont see why you should play in DiD-fashion.

I might do it in a game like "Spartan: Total Warrior" were you can completely evade / parry any damage if you are good enough, but not in a game in which I get hurt because my defense is lower than the enemies attack....

This is how I play most RPGs, including this one, for two main reasons. It builds a sense of caution and outright fear when you are playing the game that you don't have when you know you can reload. Secondly, as the OP has alluded to, it builds a sense of achievement to have completed the game this way, you can't really know what that's like until you have tried it.

Some classes are less suited to this style of game, playing strict no injuries to the PC mode. As a result in this particular game I prefer no reloads, allowing for no total wipes. You have to be cautious and tactically right on the money when you play this way, particularly the first time through.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better. Image IPB

I might try a no-injuries playthrough (reload before fights if anyone dies). But a true hardcore playthough is only worth it with ladders or something.

I play some games like that, but not Dragon Age. Frankly, if I want to have that kind of 'hardcore' gaming challenge I would start with a game that is actually difficult. Most of the fun in DA for me is from exploring the content; the combat engine itself wouldn't hold my interest if I were experiencing the same content a bajillion times.

I haven't played that way but I have managed to get the achievement where your main character doesn't fall for the entire game. To be honest playing where dying is = game over doesn't really appeal to me. But if you like it then all power to you! :)

So you should have the achievement called " I'm kind of a big deal ", correct?

The idea that playing the game over from the beginning is somehow harder than reloading a save is rediculous. Nothing changes except the time it takes to get back to the part where you failed.

I guess grats for taking 100x longer than everyone else? That's all you've achieved here

HaHaHa! that reminds me of an ascii based randomly generated dungeon rpg called rogue decades ago. you could save your game but it quit out when you did so u could reload next time u wanted to play but if you died it scrubbed your save file so that DiD style of playing was enforced.

games were alot simpler back then but the detail and challenge contained within rogue were/are still immense even by modern standards. hmm... I wonder if its still out there on the net somewhere?

I wish I had the self discipline to play this game in that way (or it was enforced!) unfortunately I have become soft and dependant on saving my way through difficult levels etc... although to be honest I started this game on hard and I probably only reload 1 save out of 10. Would be nice to see a hardcore mode that limited saving though

Works for me since I typically only buy a new game once a year or so.Image IPB

This is my main problem with RPG's, i'm unable to kick the DiD mindset. I've played almost every RPG in this manner.

I've only had DA since Christmas and other than my first character, which i used to get a feel for the game for a few hours, I've scrapped around 10 characters thus far within 2 hours or so. I have no issue with party members dying and being returned to life afterwards, but i do lose interest within minutes if my main character gets cabbaged. I don't set out with any particular rules in mind so it's not just merely a case of adhering to a pre planned rule set, it's just how i am.

I've tried shaking this mentality but i can't and because I've played RPG's in this manner for over 2 decades now, it's safe to say I'm never going to change. Won't lose sleep over it because, after all, it's only a game.

That said, the only time i've been thourghly pissed off having to scrap a character was the first time i entered that camp site, just after encountering the mighty oak in the forest. I don't mind falling during battle or slipping off a cliff etc but to be instantly killed without so much as a fight riled me a little

I'm trying to do all the quests that I can find and do ... then I already spent hours and hours and hours in the game. I cannot imagine that I would have to restart it because of one death.

I'm not sure I could do it.

I replay the tough battles to get them down well - I must have done the Ser Cauthrien fight a dozen times before finding a reliable method of surviving - but but there are quite a lot of fights in DAO where things can go suddenly wrong.

I'm also interested to hear how you handled ser cauthrien. Did you surrender to her or fight her? :)

Good question!

I found the fight far easier if I pulled her into the hallway near the Library, but she still hits so hard, I wonder if I'd take the gamble that far along on a no-reload attempt.
