... Return in some shape or form?

The whole point of DA2 (Imo) was to show how the war broke out and how Hawke was at the center of it, and is believe to be the only one to stop it.

Will our PC be tasked with the job of tracking Hawke down in DA3 for the seeker in the hope he/she will end the conflict one way or another?

Nope. That's what Cassandra was tasked with. And she found no Hawke and no real reason why anything Hawke did started the Mage/Templar war at all.

Besides, it would just be resource consumption, recognizing plot flags about who Hawke romanced and importing his/her face in just for a cameo? Very unlikely.

Tasked with chasing him/her down?  Possibly.

Actually doing so?  Doubtful.

There are too many variables involved with Hawke, and I suspect that both Hawke and the Hero of Ferelden will remain off-screen for now.

Will Hawke or Warden ever show up? Probably. Will tracking him or Warden be the main plot of DA3? I doubt it. I figure the Mage-Templar war will have progressed enough that it can no longer be stopped by Hawke or Warden.

Well I hope that if we do meet Hawke, LI would be with him/her too. At the very least i'd like some reference from Hawke or LI if met separately as to where the other is.

Unlikely, as both Hawke and the Warden were eaten by Flemeth.

Nope, don't think so....

As written above to many variables that need accounted for (waste of zots imho) and want to play a main character that meets new people. Not the warden or Hawke. Reference in the lore or in conversations would be nice though.

Given the title of DA3, I suspect we play as a inquisitor and most likely for the seekers. Which to me would seem seeking answers who they believe Hawke has, wouldn't surpise me if locating him or her would play its part in the main plot.

Except that the framing story for DA2 established that Hawke didn't have those answers.

If it means I can beat them both silly and feed them to the darkspawn... sure, I'd love for them to return.

I support burning Hawke at stake at the very beginning of the game.

I don't think the Champion can stop a continential revolution of mages and templars who have opposing ideological views. I do recall that Anders tells a pro-mage, apostate Hawke that he should become a leader to the mages, and (if he's spared) will tell Hawke that he is the leader mages have been waiting centuries for. In addition to pro-mage Hawke being able to tell Anders that he seeks to overthrow the templars, I suppose he might become a leader of the mage rebellion.

What if the Inquisitor wants to side with either the mages or the templars?

Well, since Hawke wasn't really important to the outbreak of the mage-templar war (he basically just watched everything unfold, while he tried to reclaim his social status, urgh), i don't see the importance of trying to track him down.

Anders, while i hate the guy, is probably the most important figure in all of DA2, since he is the one who sparked the whole thing. I can imagine a retcon, where Anders will come back alive, regardless of the hundreds of thousands of people who cut his head off (that thought is oddly...soothing), and we will be tasked to bring him to answer for what he has done.

Yes and no.  Anders was the spark that blew up the powderkeg.  But the powderkeg was sitting in a warehouse that was in the process of burning down.  *Something* was going to blow up the powderkeg.  It just happened to be Anders.  That was the point that the game repeatedly pushed home; the situation was unstable, and something was going to upset things no matter how much Hawke tried to keep it under control.  The insanity of both Anders and Meredith merely sped up the process.

Anders is more or less the equivalent of the guy who killed the Archduke Ferdinand in 1914.

Maybe a small cameo where it won't matter what personality Hawke had.

Like Hawke and Anders/Merrill are moving through a market trying to stay hidden and just making their way through the world. Hawke and Isabela are seen on the docks taking on cargo before shipping off. Hawke and Fenris having a nice drink in the bar before leaving.

Everyone just trying to do their own thing away from all this white noise of mages and templars. Or actively hiding from them.

Anders' actions only have a significance as a result of Hawke's. If Hawke had not found the lyrium idol, helped Anders in Act 1 or thwarted the qunari invasion, then Anders could never have carried out his bomb plot.

I hope they don't return. I expect that we may hear rumors or whisperings of Hawke and the Warden, but not a cameo. It'd be way too much work for something not really important.

Ha. I'd love to see the look on Cassandra's face if Hawke and his/her LI turned up at some random tavern in Val Royeaux.
