not a fan of Halo myself, played only 1-2 but I like how game narrative use her personality and action
to make me feel that she's a person without telling us over and over again like Edi.

also, the relationship between her and Chief is better than Edi and Joker.

Cortana, hands down. Edi is interesting for a time, but it doesn't take long to realise its the A-typical learning AI persona ala-Data that they're going for. Cortana on the other hand, simulates human emotion. And she KNOWS that she's only simulating, not actually feeling anything, she's just carbon coppying off of Halsey's profile. At least until the events of Halo 3 and the Gravemind where she begins to go rampant. Its one of the things that "broke her" after XYZ point, not being able to discern what was a simulation and what was not. Which I found much more interesting. An actual True AI intelligence rather than the A typical "What is the purpose of this-" Scenario that just keeps popping up over and over again in sci-fi

Cortana. Don't get me wrong though. I think Mass Effect is the better series by far. My favorite series/story ever with my favorite characters. But Cortana wins over EDI in this case.
