Not sure.

Cortana doesn't exactly have the most fleshed out character, although I haven't played Halo 2 in a pretty long time.

EDI though does have that, but I think it was pretty forced, and altogether too fast. She's a shackled AI, and then suddenly she's a 'human'.

Cortana is more natural though, and her aesethetics weren't quite as overly sexualized or exploited.

Can't believe the amount of Cortana votes... it's by far EDI for me. She has a sense of humor and way more development in two games. The characters of Halo (besides arbiter) are pretty boring.

Cortana. Unlike EDI, who was learning the ropes of what it means to be 'human', or at least to pass as one, Cortana was already there, she a full personality already. It makes me even sadder that I haven't pre-ordered Halo 4, and probably can't.

EDI, completely disconnected from halo these days. Feel like I've grown out of it.
I did like Cortana until Halo 3 happened, now I'm no longer interested in what's going on with that story.

btw, I had the ending to halo 4 spoiled for me earlier, so I'm kinda bummed now.

There is no confirmation of her dying. The only confirmation there was is Didact being the main antagonist and a massive chance he will be the final boss. It is referenced in the novels. Funny enough, Halo's lore is much tighter compared to an RPG which should have tighter lore.

The boss part is referenced in the novels which isn't a spoiler at this point, and this was leaked as a minor 3-D image months ago. People speculating Cortana's death is another thing. I'm not spoiling it. Two things were known and the other is pure speculation, which I confirmed to be unconfirmed.
