I have a brand new HP (Windows 7) and a 4 year old monitor. The game won't start. The error messge says that I don't have the appropriate video card. I'm not sure what I need. What's the next step?

You need to look for your receipts and find out what you bought, I think.
Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (or this one is wrong)
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
(Note: IMO, the two cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 Vanilla)

Just because its a brand new computer dosent mean it can all games. Especially true if its a lower end machine. Figure out what video hardware or chipset it has (amd/ati, intel, nvidia) and get the newest driver from the their website, it may make the game start. It should say on the box, packaging or stickers on the computer.
