Don't know if it's too late to vote, but I'd cast my ballot for any and all assault rifles. There's just so much garbage in that category. As someone who was a primary AR user in SP, I was shocked at how sucky they all are in MP until you get into the URs.
Buff all the things!
I totally forgot about my..... Everything, here.
(Was playing dwarf fortress, Sucessfully trained a rather veteran military.)
Phaestron:
Its..... One of those guns that was screwed by being full auto.
While the Avenger was a "Less effectiveness then a tempest, but greater usefullness," due to its weight..... I have always imagined the Phaestron as the gun that would be "As effective as a tempest, but far more useful."
Attributes:
DPS: 523.
Weight: .8
Advantages: Stable.
Large magazines.
Proposed buff:
Plain and simple. Firing at a target for a sustained period of time with the Phaestron should be as devistating as doing the same with the Tempest. The weight justifies the accuracy.
Damage +18%
From [42-52.4] to [49.4-61.8]
Wait. Ro. You be scamming us.
Its burst DPS is now 618.
The Tempest is 650.
Not what I was going for.
The Phaestrons sustained DPS is the same now. The higher damage per bullet should guarentee anti armor superiority, and the normal piercing mod should enable the Phaestron to rock both the extended barrel and its AP mod. Solidifying its anti armor prowess, and making it a very definately equal DPS gun.

I will NEVER chop off the R.
But my opinions of it have been listed.
New updates for all to see.
Ill leave a small silent period, in honor of the last mid weight assault rifle I plan on covering.

For the CAR... it's going to need something bigger than a 25% buff, since it's basically a heavier, slower firing Phaeston.

An 18% buff? OK. Works for me. Everything else about the Phaeston is just about perfect.
How would you define "usefulness" though?
Flexibility.
Think of the range of situations it can be used in.
X
The level of freedom you are allowed in customizing the weapon (Without sacrificing functionality.)
X
The raw effectiveness of the effectiveness in question.
=
Usefullness.

Its more of an upscaled Avenger that is as effective as the buffed Avenger would be.
CAR:
Ultimately, its a second phaestron thats too heavy to use.
I was shocked at its mid range accuracy during full auto, but its inability to get significantly more accuracte shots when burstfired is saddening.
Whats its problem?
Its as strong as the avenger/GPR should be.
This..... Makes it gravely underpowered for its weight.
Attributes:
1.0 weight.
540 DPS at X
Special attributes: Medium accuracy, does not decrease significantly in full auto.
Proposed buff:
25%
From [55.4-69] to [69-86.4]
New DPS, 722.
Basically, the new CaR would be in almost uncharted waters, the 700 DPS market.
Very few guns fill this price range, the lighter, more accurate Indra is one of them.
However, the Fast reloads, and ligher recoil would keep everything all nice and fair between these two.

IT has to have something to differenciate it from the Phaestron, doesn't it?

Hope you like MIASMA!
Personally.
I still don't think they'll take a look at the Avenger.
Phaeston maybe it's a good gun IMO.
Disciple needs help a bit more than the Avenger really.

It ended quite interestingly.
Basically, My dogs went rabid, and killed all the children, this caused a massive riot that killed all but two dwarves, A utter bada** named Dolun (Legenadry speardwarf, marksdwarf, dodger, hammerer, striker, biter, kicker, dodger, and blocker, she had around 100 Kills in battle, and has never been wounded,) and her husband.
There was no water, so her wounded husband died of dehidration from their wounds, and Dolun, no longer able to care about anything, left the fortress(Abandonment...) To join my next fort.
Now, to cover the fundementals of the mid weight snipers:
The Viper:
I owe you a viper plan.

I'm quite surprised you have plans for the Viper. After the latest buff by Bioware, I've found it to be a rather good gun.
Ive only heard complaints for it.
Im only going to give it what all the low weight snipers are getting.
Its an ability that really makes sense for them.
These low weight snipers tend to be valued as headshot weapons.
However, I can see siituations where the viper wouldn't be able to take out basic troopers with a headshot while geared up for the difficulty...
And this would be a massive buzzkill for someone who likes sniping, if you have the skill to headshot.....
I when someone is using gear fo the difficulty, the high damage, low ROF snipers should take a troopers head off. It feels more rewarding that way, and it isn't imbalanced.

I gotta download Dwarf fortress... I love the stories it generates. So... Insane.

I thought that the lower RoF with higher damage differentiated these two enough. I am wrong in this assumption?Rokayt wrote...

The weight is quite a bit higher, the capacity is much lower, and the accuracy is less pinpoint when burstfired.
It can earn being a good 16% stronger in the DPS catagory.

I didn't mean that it should be on par with the phaeston (I already know it deserves a higher DPS for the weight and accuracy). Wasn't the 25% damage buff what you suggested? I was just agreeing.
Ahh. I see.

Seems like your overall vision - headshot bonus increasing. Have you thought about anti-shied anti-armor guns done the similar way.
For example Geth Plasma Smg is quite a weak gun, what if increase it's anti-shield/barrier capability. We could get quite a seriouse shield eraser to be a beckup anti-shield weapon like Acolyte but in SMGs weapon slot.

The GPR fills an interesting role of being by far the weapon that has gone the furthest while still being obsoleted by leaps and bounds.
Its DPS is that of the locusts, however, it is far disadvangated to the aformentioned gun due to its style:
Its a fast firing assault rifle that does little damage per shot. This in theory leaves you with an excellent anti shield/health weapon that suffers against armor.....
However, this only succeeds at making it terrible against armor. It needs a DPS advantage over similar weapons in order to be able to be considered an effective anti-infantry weapon. This advantage simply does not exist for it currently.
For reference, its stats:
DPS at X: 456
Weight: .5
Accuracy: Very high.
Notes: High capacity, allows for good sustained fire.
Reccomended buff:
+ 25% Damage
+ .5 to the headshot multiplier
Eric Fagnan wrote...
Geth Pulse Rifle
- Damage increased from [27.4-34.2] to [28.8-36.0]
- Magazine size increased from 80 to 100
- Head shot damage multiplier increased from 2.5 to 3
Not exactly what you perscribed but it looks like they're starting to catch on to the idea of using headshot bonuses as good ways to buff the low weight/high accuracy guns. Hope they continue this trend and follow your Vindicator recommendations.

1)Finally added the headshot multiplier to the GPR. Damage still low but alot better now
2)Raptor still suffers from the damn refire limiting its RoF at least we finally got something better than a weight decrease.
3)Incisor still suffers from the recoil damage increase doesn't change that.
4)I like the mantis buff was using it today on silver and it is a great beginner sniper.
I am hoping to see some good buffs in the future.
