ok, i am normally a DW rogue but sometimes I just need to range using bow until the enemies come in close.
recently i've noticed that even when controlling my own PC with a bow it will take one shot and then just sit there. i have to r-click the mob again to shoot the bow again.

What am I missing? I would like my PC to just auto-shoot the mob after i r-click them once until I switch to melee.

thanks for the help.

I think its a bug. It does this for me too but only at extreme ranges.

Unequip the melee weopons and he wont ever do this. It is part of the AI coding to switch to melee weopons if the situation is better for them.

By having no secondary melee weopons, the AI will stick with the bow no matter what.

Use Ranged behavior in Tactics. Have a final tactics slot set to Self: attacked by melee -> switch to melee weapons.

Pay attention to the specific Behavior settings and their default actions when none of the tactics apply. Some will have the character do nothing without specific instruction while others enter a default attack routine.

Most likely, you have a Behavior setting that does nothing as a default.

Its nothing to do with tactics. The game ha some basic AI coded into it even if the tactics is empty, such as retaliating when attacked, drawing out melee weopons in melee range if they have a bow equipped etc.

Tho you can try to sort it out a little in tactics, the best solution I found was just to unequip any secondary melee weopons, and have melee archer talent.

I have observed the same! It simply stops even if you control. Not only Bow, but Swords also. I believe it happens when an enemy moves an inch in melee, and with Bow i dont know why.

Are you a Rogue? Do you have the Evasion Talent? Because that may be part of the problem. I've heard that when Evasion activates, your character will literally stand there and do nothing until they're attacked after every Evasion.

I don't know if that's the case, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I am a rogue. Mainly I dual wield.

This happens when I SWITCH to my ranged weapon to do some bow damage.

I've noticed that when I AM IN CONTROL the arrows do not auto-fire. In fact I have to continually r-click the mob to shoot another arrow.

This does not happen during melee combat.

I was thinking that maybe I hit some setting by accident and didn't realize it.

(I do not have evasion but I might have some evasion gear)

This here is right.  On my rogue, same deal. The level I learned the evasion talent (dodge 1/5 attacks if I remember), this started to happen.  Watch your toon.  If you do a 'dodge' type animation, you immediately stop auto attacking and have to reclick your target.  For sheer annoyance, I skipped this talent on later playthroughs and haven't had this problem again.

Unless your game is entirely different from mine, not true. Some people think they have their character set to Ranged when they don't. Archer does not equal ranged. In your tactics page there are two drop down menus. Set the left one to Archer - and the right one to Ranged. Archer - Default will switch to melee. Archer - Ranged will not. Unless you specifically program it into tactics: Self  - attacked by melee - switch to melee weapons.

Usually when I catch this happening it's because I had the party in 'hold' mode for some reason and forgot to un-hold them when I was ready to let loose the hounds. They'll attack, but if their target moves they will hold position and not follow.

nONO this is about the controlled char stopping. Not the others. I see it with hold, the others stop if the enemy moves out of reach. Even if that is only a inch.

When im controlling, it may actually be the same effect if i think about it. Just without touching the hold button. I cant vouch so much for bow ,cause this works fine in a static position. But melee very often. I can see it, if i rightclick again you take a small step forward which seems all what was missing.

Try it anytime, do a shieldbash or something, and you stop attacking. When the enemy stands up again and eventually moves towards you ,you will continue automatic because it is in reach. And only if you control the tank. Of course, topic of the day, until you click again you dont do anything.

Doesnt explain the problem with the Bow thou, but still.

i have this too. same char setup: DW with occassional long-range bow sniping to kick off a battle. this only happens at extreme ranges. just re-click while the bow is being drawn and it will queue up another shot so you don't get that delay between shots. tougher once the target starts moving but nothing else seems to work.

The archer won't continue to fire on it's own if the range to the target is further than the effective range of the weapon (don't know if that's the range listed on the stats or part of it). Might be set this way so your characters don't waste special ammunition or talents.

I could swear the targets were not very far away. I'll double-check though.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

This game is all about Tactics and the settings within that system.

Note that whichever character you are controlling places Tactics in a deactive state while you are controlling, too.

I've read the posts here but don't really see the problem unless the OP (and some others) are expecting some sort of "automated" attack sequence. That does not happen with the controlled character, though, as the game assumes you are actually controlling the character and telling the character specifically what to do. You're supposed to keep attacking (clicking) whether the same target or switching to a different target. It's real time combat, after all.

You don't need to keep clicking with the controlled character to attack (unless you're outside effective range with a bow). Once you right-click on an enemy the controlled character will continue to make normal attacks on that target. You will still need to activate special attacks, spells etc.

Right, on MY character that I control, I am shooting arrows. I click the target and I shoot the bow once and THAT IS IT. No more shots. Nothing. I have to keep clicking the enemy to shoot another shot. So, obviously something is a little goofed up. This does not happen when I am controlling Lil and she is firing arrows constantly.

I've noticed the same type of thing at maximum range, mage staffs usually out range bows, short bows are roughly half the distance of longbows. If mobs are max distance, they may just stand there and take the shots, or switch to a ranged weapon and return fire, for the auto fire to kick in, player or mob needs to move a bit closer.

I've noticed it too: for some reason the toon stops attacking and just stands there. It happens all the time for me. There seem to be all sorts of bugs like that. I'm still playing the darn game though.. It's pretty darn obnoxious. I wish I had an alternative to play but there doesn't seem to be. If I had internet I'd play WoW were it not for reliance on other players...

This.  I noticed that as soon as I took Evasion, my character would start shooting, duck an enemy arrow and not go back to shooting after her defensive move.
