We all know the galaxy is large and when i first played ME I was pretty intrested in what Barla Von said about how there were dozens of species in citadel space and how Terminus system was filled with their own collection of minor species. Yet in the games we see only so few of these, the most common ones are there of course but where are the rest?

Heres something I cooked up, what might be out there in the galaxy, something we might yet discover, cause the galaxy is huge and Shepard only sees such a small part of it.

If you have any, you can follow my lead here. Lets make some races and add to the universe of Mass Effect!!

Sorry if I make mistakes in english, its not my native language.

These are based on Barla Vons speech in ME1: "80 % of all known intelligent species in the known galaxy recognize the Citadels authority in interstellar matters, but only the most powerful and influental species have embassies here on the presidium. This place is reserved for the elite, Shepard, people like us."

List of species in the uncanon ME verse in alphabetical order circa 2185, added by yours truly(note that the list doesnt include pre spaceflight civilizations like Yahg, and Leviathans):

Society: Short history of the species and a look into their society and manners.
Affiliation: Usually either Citadel aligned species or Terminus Systems race. Also has information about where they live in the galaxy.
Military: Describes the forces the species uses to defend itself. Also mentions any conflicts or special forces they might have.

So lets start

Couple of Citadel races from the top of my head, I might add Terminus system races later...

The Shekhmu

Official name: Shekhmu Dynasties
Homeworld: Zharsun, Khalima System, Baset Nebula

Appearance: Alien felinoids. Bipedal, resemble terran felines, like pumas or lynxes, but also have some similarities with other terran mammals, such as porcupines or hedgehogs. Despite them being classified as feline species, the Shekhmu ancestry shows they evolved from a feline being not seen on Earth or any other known world, one that evolved bipedalism and grasping hands early during its evolution more similar to that of simian beings than felines. Their non sapient cousin species, Khahnur, a zharsunian "tree cat" also demonstrates this peculiar evolution.

The Shekhmu have a soft fur coat thats coloring ranges from black to fiery red, it also has many patterns on it. Their ears are more like humans ears rather than cat ears, on the side of their heads and shaped a bit like maple leafs. Males have a mane of sharp quills that run along their head and spine to the tip of their tails. Females also have the spine quills but lack the mane. They are carnivorous hunters and prefer to eat meat and fish, only using plants as spices. Their lifespan is comparable to that of humans and turians.

Society:

Shekhmu society is split between the sexes. The shekhmu are native to an Earth like world of jungles, mountains, deserts and plains called Zharsun. Zharsun is also a world filled with dangerous and deadly predators, which the shekhmu have had to deal with on a daily basis in their prehistory. Thus even before their rise to sapience, the stronger and more aggressive males were the hunters, warriors and protectors of the shekhmu packs as the females were left to take care of the cubs and build lair’s and eventually towns. This constituted into two very different personalities and world views for the males and females.

Originally when the males were still in charge of their civilization the shekhmu were very warlike and their planet was in a constant state of tribal warfare. Dynasties and warlords constantly rose, fought for dominance and were toppled by others. The invention of gunpowder just made these wars among the male dominated dynasties more brutal and damaging. Females were not treated with much dignity by the male warlords or nobles, usually becoming subservient servants or possessions to be used and traded as the males deemed fit.

However since the series of great wars that wiped out most of the participating males and their dynasties, the surviving numerous females finally took over, forced their rule over the males and this had a pacifying effect on their culture. Without this transition it is likely that the shekhmu would have eventually destroyed themselves, and after some time even the males saw the wisdom for this change. This change enabled them to recover, discover prothean tech inside their solar system and become a space faring culture.Shekhmu scout ships were discovered by the asari in 1798 CE exiting a mass relay near their home cluster and after peaceful first contact they became under citadels wing. In the following 110 years they gained an embassy.

Females now outnumber males by 7 to 1 and they lead the civilizations with huge dynasties. Males are not treated as lower class citizens but as equals, and they are presented with the same career opportunities, tough they are usually seen in military, guard, weapon manufacturing and bounty hunting professions where they find themselves most comfortable, while females run the administrative professions, diplomacy and science.

Families and houses are very important in shekhmu society. A royal dynasty is the strong basic pillar around which all other families gather. Good relations and strong alliances are frequently woven and kept with other families. Families with more influence look after the lesser influenced families who in turn take care of those beneath them and so on. Most shekhmu are also employed through these relations and thus unemployment tends to remain rather low, however there are still those who are left behind. Particularly those without families of note and orphans are on the bottom of this social pyramid and usually suffer from poor conditions as they rarely get to advance in shekhmu society.

Arranged marriages were commonly used among the different families and some dynasties still cling to this tradition, but many have left it behind and now let their offspring choose freely whom they wish to marry. Since shekhmu males are still lower in numbers, polygamous marriages with one male and several females are not uncommon and it depends on the females if they wish this. Mostly wealthy, noble or otherwise respected males tend to have polygamous relationships with several females tough.

The shekhmu are presently famous throughout Citadel space as consummate artists, whether its modern art or unique artifacts from the fallen dynasties or dramatic theatrical plays of the past shekhmu wars, many asari, humans and turians in particular buy these services from the shekhmu.

Shekhmu tend to speak with an accent that resembles Terran mediterranean or arabic accents.

Affiliation: Citadel. Have an Embassy. Kheopis, Daramhet and Nehrufiti are the current leading dynasties and thus they make most of the decisions regarding the Shekhmu as a whole. Dozens of colony worlds and expanding. Since their becoming a citadel race, the terratories and influence of the shekhmu have been steadily growing and it is rumored that they will soon have a chance to fill a spot on the council. Their region of space borders the asari, turian and hanar regions.

Military: Have a steady war fleet with at least 3 dreadnoughts and lots of scout ships suiting their curious nature. Some terratorial issues with the turians and hanar. Even tough their armies are not yet as strong as those of the council races, you should never underestimate the shekhmu in battle, the males especially as they are fierce and intelligent warriors that are well versed in using both firearms and advanced claw like blade weapons in close combat. Females act mostly as snipers, adepts and engineers. The Shekhmu have an elite group of male and female warriors called the "Fangs of Zharsun", that are comparable to Turian Black Watch, Asari Commandos or Human N7s.

The Moluvir

Official name: Moluvir Combine
Homeworld: Maluvoloi, Neluvamu System,  Elysian Haven

Appearance: Huge caterpillar like beings. They have multiple eyes, 4 small tentacle like "arms" that they use to manipulate objects, which they can also do with their wriggling mouths. They are also very colorful and can blend to their home planets nature like chameleons. Like Earth caterpillars, they are herbivores and like to eat plants and leaves mostly.

The Moluvir can weave things with a strong silk like substance that comes from their mouths, which can also be useful in construction, but they dont evolve into butterfly like things and stay as worms. They do go on with 3 stages of evolution in their lives within a cocoon, that of a larva, adult and elder, each time transforming into bigger worms. Elder worms can be over 10 meters long, with adult being half of that, and children/larvae being only 1.5 meters.

Society: Very peaceful and friendly, with multitude of social rules, cues and rituals that can be downright confusing to other species. Rival hanar in politeness. Culture also seems to be run by political correctness. They are led by a council of wise elder worms, called "destiny weavers". They have only recently discovered interstellar travel, and were found by chance by a salarian scout team. Since then the moluvir sponsored by the salarians have become known to the Citadel space and are well on their way of intergrating into the larger galactic community.

Affiliation: Under Citadels wing, dont have an embassy yet, very recently discovered species. They were discovered on the border of salarian and human space meaning there might be terratorial issues in the future with some borders drawn again.

Military: Minimal, The moluvir have never known true war on their world and thus are unfamiliar with the concept of armies. However since the galaxy can be a cruel and unforgiving place, this will likely force them to change their views somewhat. Theres rumors that they might become a client race under humans, trading their construction skills and resources for protection.

The Hama'kal

Official name: Hama'kal Regime
Homeworld: T'ma'cha, Hek'na System, Charybdian Sea

Appearance: Crustacean like humanoids with 3 eyes, vertical mouth with rows of teeth and 2 mandibles. Hard, shelled body thats coloration rangers from dark green to black, and gives them natural armor against weapons. Spikes protruding from their wrists which can be used as natural weapons. Over 2 meters in height. Hama'kal are carnivores and they enjoy eating live prey.

Society: Collection of paranoid military states and juntas. Highly competetive within and with other species and love to rattle saber and use brutality and violence to achieve their goals. Average hama'kal citizen is highly paranoid and distrusting of others, even of their own species, since constant struggle for power and personal gain is a rule in their society. Harsh military hierarchy and social discipline keeps most hama'kal in line, and they are tought from birth to respect their superiours, at least until they show a weakness that will be exploited.

Since expansion into space they have been in a constant competition over resources and terratories with other species. This has somewhat united the hama'kal military states but only to a certain degree. Natural aggressiveness and personal survival instinct is still strongly present everywhere the hama'kal exist.

Affililiation:
Terminus Systems. Their space is near the Titan nebula. Declined the Citadel conventions and see interspecies cooperation and societies as naive foolishness and weakness . "Just more blades waiting to slit your throat when youre not looking" as the hama'kal say.

Military: Military bands operating around Hama'kal terratories. Fairly weak fleet compared to the council races, but if coexed into an alliance with other similar minds in Terminus could prove to be a deadly force against Citadel, especially in ground battle, where their brutality rivals the krogans and the yahg.

The Wryz

Official name: Wryz Consortium
Homeworld: Dvib, Unknown System, Unknown Cluster

Appearance: Mammalian Humanoid. Resemble something between a bipedal naked molerat and a tarsier. Skin color varies from dark brown to light grey. The wryz are small in stature, often only reaching in 1,4 meters at most. Very agile and nimble in movements. They are also very smart and quick thinking. Wryz are omnivores and they usually feast on small, flightless bird like creatures from their homeworld, as well as various nuts and berries. They breed in litters and live about 50 earth years on average.

Society: Based on opportunism, commerce and trade. They can be mostly described as scavenger junk dealers and salvagers around the Terminus Systems, since the wryz have a saying "take all that you can, when you can. Its all useful."  The wryz are masters in recycling tech and turning something used or broken into something that can work again.

Because the wryz can sometimes be such lying scumbag dealers, they have a questionable reputation and some species and individuals rate them only little above the vorcha, whom the wryz consider their mortal enemies and always in the way of their scavenging and profiteering. They keep their central homeworlds as a well guarded secret and mostly work through asteroid outposts, Terminus system worlds and Omega. Seeing them in Citadel wards is rare but not impossible. Quarians have bought some ships from the wryz, the most famous of them being the former wryz ship "Qwib Qwib" thats now the home of one of the Quarian admirals.

Affiliation: Terminus systems, the wryz mostly find the Citadel space and its rules way too resticting for their scavenging and mercantile operations. Some wryz also secretly work for the Shadow Broker.

Military: Can self defend but they dont have much of an army. Usually they buy their protection from other species such as batarians, krogan or hama'kal mercenaries. In fight the wryz always look for a chance to either hide, bribe their way out or flee before they resort to violence themselves.

Btw

Some feedback would be nice people.

The Rhaelans

Official name: Rhaelan Ascendancy
Homeworld: Sangiini, Pirinis System, Stygian Fringe

Appearance: Subterranean eel like humanoids. Elongated skulls, pearl like glowing eyes and hideous lamprey mouths. Skin is covered in slight slime like substance. Sensitive to light so have to wear special goggles or lenses on bright worlds. Because of their scary looks, aversion to sunlight and feeding habits of draining blood from their prey, even sapient ones, humans that were unfortunate to meet them have started to call rhaelans "star vampires".

Society: Xenophobic police state. Rhaelans are obsessed with order and control, and plan and organize their lives meticolously with great fervor. Rhaelans also think they are superiour to every other lifeform in the galaxy and think of other species as scum or food. Many of them act as raiders and space pirates in the Terminus systems, but very rarely in multispecies groups since they find the company of other species revolting. It is rare for rhaelans to venture outside their terratories, but some can be found on Omega and in the dark corners of  Nemean Abyss. These rare individuals have come over their races xenophobia and work alongside other species, tough grudgingly, but always keeping their eye on the true goal, when they will be the "master race of the galaxy".

Affiliation: Terminus systems. Rhaelan space is somewhere beyond the Valhallan Threshold, near the rim. Mostly stick to themselves when not raiding or conquering new areas of the galaxy.

Military: Formidable, comparable to the Batarian Hegemonys. Rhaelans have weapons that are both cruel and effective in their design. Sometimes they try and catch their victims alive just so they can drain their fresh blood slowly and feast for days. Thus there are horror stories abound in the western Terminus Systems, Nemean Abyss and Attican traverse about rhaelans and their horrible methods.

They have been known from time to time to invade Attican Traverse worlds that are near the Citadel space for resources but Turian peace keeping fleets have stopped those efforts most of the time. Sometimes tough rhaelans with their superiour planning skills can gain a temporary uphand in some conquered areas until they are usually driven back by the overwhelming numbers of turian forces. Council treats the rhaelans mostly as a plague that isnt allowed to be anywhere near Citadel space, so turians and humans are given free hands to push them back, whenever they are invading, since given their xenophobia it is unlikely the rhaelan government will seek allies in a revenge strike.

These are some great ideas, but do you intend to use them for something, or are you just sharing for the fun of getting to conjure up new species? Just curious, is all.

Just for fun. mainly. Im not really a fan fiction writer but i can come up with ideas like these. If someone wants to use em, they can for roleplaying purposes or other.

Also some ideas for Bioware, if they wanna keep adding new races. Im not going to sue or anything...:P

Bioware already has an avian species in the works; the Raloi. Can't wait to hopefully see one in ME4.

Love these races, Armass81, especially the Shekhmu and Moluvir.
As for new ideas, how about a humanoid dragon species, with wings and everything, that has a society built around some sort of code of honor and virtues. Obviously, the Turians would love them.

I wonder how plausible four-legged, four-armed, six eyes on eye stalk spider-people would be...in fact!

Race Name: The Corveraxx (pronounced: kohr-vər-ACKS)
Official Name: Corveraxx Intergalactic Advancement Coalition or CIAC

Appearance: Similar to earth Spiders. Torso consists of two segments, head connecected by elongated neck. Head consists of six eyes on eight inch long eye stalks, a foot-long, retractable probiscus hidden behind a mandible (as opposed to a mouth) and many fine hairs covering the face. Four appendages of back segment move the Corveraxx while the front limbs have four-fingered hands with two thumb-like appendages. Fine hairs cover appendages. Appearance consists of a glassy exoskeleton as strong as an average human bone protecting weak skin, skin tones of yellow, green, black and white.
Sexual Dimorphism: Men are smaller but have longer appendages and tend to be yellow or black, though white males do exist. Women are larger, easily more identifiable by larger thoraxes and wider and stronger legs and are usually green or white, but there are black females.
Reproduces By: Females lay eggs.
Species Special Abilities: Corveraxx can walk on walls and ceilings, and normal blood flow commences even when inverted. Corveraxx have perfect vision while inverted, however muscle degeneration can cause eye stalks to become limp and impede vision.
Blood Color: Bright Green. Humans once thought Corveraxx blood was acidic, but that has been disproven.
Average Life Expectency: 74.2 years (both genders)
Other Information: Dextro-Protien Species, often displaying violent reactions to human and salarian food in particular. Rumors persist that Corveraxx bodily fluid is toxic if it intermingles with other species (such as through blood transfusions) but an independent study by the CIAC has disproven allegations.  Eyes also function as ears, with translator worn around an eye stalk.  Regarding communication with other species, human translators state, "they have a very faint portugese accent."

Home Planet and System: Reztirroz 3, third planet of five in the Selchik system, The Shrike Abyssal
Racial Society: Democractic. Corveraxx elect their highest officials. Reztirroz 3 is populated by six key city states, all completely aligned with one another on a geographic level. There is a schism developing between the populace and leadership of wether it would be in the CIAC's best interest to join the Citadel or the greater Terminus Systems.
Discovered By: The Asari. A Corveraxx ship was discovered in the Shrike Abyssal and an Asari diplomatic vessel was dispatched to make contact.
Military: Corveraxx are newcomers to the galactic stage and their military is still being acclimated to space travel and life.

Thoughts?

Theres already couple of species in ME lore that are avian. The turians which are repto-avian, and the raloi which are probably pure avian. What the raloi resemble is anyones guess, personally I picture them as sort of humanoid ostriches.

Theres also a plethora of reptiles, the krogan, the drell, the protheans(Are they reptilian? They could be amphibian too).. Im trying some species or types of animal inspiration that havent been used yet.

Actual name: [A series of high pitched clicks and buzzing noises that no other species can pronounce]

Official name: Molbin
Appearance: Odd shaped half humanoid half machine race, with some lizard features. Thieir appearence is a cross between Drell and Geth.

Average female height: 6foot 7inches
Average male height: 5 foot 3inches

Females are generally larger and stronger than their male counterparts and are more muscular.
Males are generally skinny, but have abnormally wide leggs and arms contrasting their stick like body.

Females tend very fast, strong and agile, wheras the males tend to be slower. Bear in mind that these are general rules that do not apply to every single Mobin.

Society: The Mobin live on the Planet Plris (pronounced Pliss. Rhymes with bliss). Which in the Terminous systems.

Mobin society is run by women with females making up 100% of the planet's workforce whilst men usually stay at home looking after the children. But men have an ability that is exclusive to their gender. They have the ability of photosynthesis. Their role is to keep pretty much every species alive on the planet. Should the mobin become extinct, every species on the planet would quite simply perish.

The trouble is that males have a lifespan of roughly 20 years, whereas females have a lifespan of roughly 80 years. This doesn't even take into account that of all children born from the Mobin race, 90% die in their mother's womb. So as a result over 10,000 male children must be given birth to every year, to keep every species alive, or otherwise there won't be sufficient oxygen in the atmosphere for the spcies on the planet to breathe.

This is an odd fact, but Plris cannot sustain plants. The Mobin are the producers on the planet. So other species must in fact be fed to the males of the Mobin species in order to sustain the other species. It is not uncommon for men to be killed by predators.

In recent times, each generation has become increasingly allergic to the planet, so to deal with this, the Mobin have developed machines attached to their bodies that lessen the alergic reactions to the atmosphere. The Salarians have helped the primative Mobin race develop these new machines that they rely on a day to day basis.

Other than the influence of the Salarians, the Mobin are actually a primative race whose technology is not disimiliar to that of Medieval Earth.

Mobin have no mainstream religion, and have one central government (that was installed by the Salarians) that runs the entire planet. However this is a planet that is plagued with wars. Few people are happy with the planatary government and for the past 1000 years the same war has been taken place.

The Cycle of Pliss:

Mobin males photosynthesise.
Predators eat male Mobins.
Mobin Females eat predators.
Mobin Female kiss the Mobin Males transferring a fluid known as Xeis.
Mobin Male produces a reproductive fluid by combining Xeis with a mixture of chemicals called Podais. this new reproductive fluid is called Thsuro.
Mobin Males kiss the Mobin Females to transfer the Thsuro.
Mobin Females then have a 5 month pregnancy before giving brith to 3 new Mobins (2 Males and 1 Female. Always exactly the same ratio).

Affiliation: Their main affiliation is with the Salarians who have pretty much not only saved their species from extinction countless times, but have also constantly interfered in the lives of the Mobin. Salarians are both a blessing and a curse to the Mobin, and as a result both species share mutual resentment.

Military: There is one central millitary that has recently gotten hold of Salarian fire arms. Aside from that there are plenty of factions that have also gottne hold of Salarian fire arms. But for the most part, the millitary factions are actually still primative.

Future of the Mobin: Some compare the fate of the Mobin to the fate of the Krogan. But one thing is certain, without the Salarians, the Mobin would be extinct, and if the Mobin become extinct then every single species of the planet would die out.

Thats certainly something different. So how did the life evolve to be so interconnected to one species on that planet? How did it survive before the mobin? Or are they transplants?

The Eradaentin
The Eradaentin, a race of bird-like reptillians. They have been around war all their life, they watched the Ancient Ragreths and Feromiens incenerate each other. But during all the war and the chaos they found science. They introduced weaponry and starships. But after leaving their planet, the Reapers came and destroyed the planet. The few thousand that were in the fleet swore revenege on the Reapers and spent 50,000 years waiting for a chance to strike.Posted Image

Appearance
The Eradaentin have a bird like face with gill-like lines on the throat which allows the Eradaetin to breath in any environment, this was developed after a nuclear war ravaged a colony. The body is skinny and arched, they have long arms and three fingers. Their legs knee sticks out, and they feature light feathers, their legs are mantis like and feature two frontal toes and one back toe. Eradaetins have a greenish-red coloration or an orange-blue coloration. They feature 4 large hairs on their backs as sensory organs. They have exactly 42 teeth and range in  different sizes.

Male: 6 feet, 4 inches
Female: 5 feet, 9 inches
Elder: 3 feet, 6 inches

Religion
The Eradaetins believe in four gods, the God of Honor, the God of War, the God of Wisdom, the God of Expedition and an anti-god called the Raptor. After the Reaper Invasion, the Eradaetins thought the Raptor sent his army. They had a special day each cycle of a week, when they would build a device which they would try to contact the gods, this likely caused the Reapers to realize them.

Culture
The Eradaetins lived in families of four, the father of the children was often beared with the most responsibility because at age 40, they must contract up for the military. Jobs and Economy were widespread.

Thats certainly something different. So how did the life evolve to be so interconnected to one species on that planet? How did it survive before the mobin? Or are they transplants?

I am very, very tempted to answer this question with Chicken or Egg.

But that would be a cop out.

Let's just say that the Mobin were the first species on the planet.
They always had that dynamic where the males had to photosynthesise.
But in prehistoric times the females used to eat the males.

Over millions of years other species emerged, evolved and became predators who consumed male Mobins.
Females found out that the meat of the predators was more wholesome than that of the same species.

Since plants can't survive on that planet, it was merely just the Mobins.

How did they come into being? Well the atmosphere was mostly carbon dioxide, and Mobin Males can survive these harsh conditions. In fact Mobin Females came into being as a result of a genetic accident. Before the time of females, Mobins were asexual, but over many years they lost this ability to reproduce asexually and became reliant on females for reproduction.

Now another question that many people might have been thinking is, why didn't the Salarians just bring the species of Pless to other worlds. The Salarians tried that, and found that the native species of Pless couldn't survive on other worlds.

With aliens I like to have at least one of the following:

Make them as disadvantaged as possible.
Make them as plain weird as possible.
Make them completly alien.
Give them a complex relationship with another alien species.

Mobins are one of my favourite concepts since they did all of the above.

But this thread will recieve some more strange contributions...

Actual name: Kotus

Official name: Kotus

Homeworld: Horai.  A garden world similiar to Earth, which is only 25% land. The rest just water.

Appearance: The Kotai (plural of Kotus) look like a Gorilla crossed with a Tolkinesque elf.
Their language is one of the few alien languages that uses similiar sounds and phonetics to human languages (particularly latin based lanaguages) and despite having extremely savage and aggressive looking appearances, they are surprisingly docile.

Another notable feature is that intelligence varies greatly from Kotai to another. The more intelligent Kotai tend to stand upright walk on their leggs only and wear clothes. Whereas the less intelligent Kotai tend to walk on both arms and legs.

It is also notable that 10% of the Kotus are able to breathe underwater due to a large number of green spots that cover their bodies (which aren't visible due to the fact that they're coved by hair).

Society:

Kotus society is as advanced as humans of the 21st Century, with computers, cars, smartphones and other modern gadgets. Of the pre-space flight species, they are one of the most advanced, and one of the fastest progressing species. In only 200 years they have made a leap from medieval society to the age of computers. This sudden upsurge of progress happened during a period known as Enlightenment, where they abandoned ideas that technology was "EVIL" and embraced the posibilities. Since the Kotus are not a particularly aggressive species, there are less than 100 doccumented wars in their entire history making them the most peaceful species in the galaxy.

Kotus society is founded on the idea of people working together in the pursuit of scientific descovery. Laws are very strict and children from an early age must excel in maths and science and must dedicate their lives to learning.

It is notable that not everyone follows these principles. Sure on one hand there are very few wars, but crime is abundant. As the population grows, it is becoming harder and harder for the governments of Kotus nations to tackle crime as criminals are very good at evading authorties and even use the latest technology help them evade going to prison. Furthermore, most Kotus legal systems provide very light punishments for ciminals. So despite only a small percentage of the Kotus population going into crime, that small percentage has ironically made the Kotus homeworld a very violent place to live in, contradicting the peaceful ideals of the Kotus peoples.

25% of the Kotus population are not actually what most people would call sentient. They are unable to speak and have a very limited understanding of just about everything. Worringly enough they are also born without any survival instincts and are often abandoned by their parents. These less intelligent Kotai are left on the streets to, well die. However recent developments in scientific research have discovered the reason why some Kotus are less intelligent.

Initially there were not 2 but 4 genders required for reproduction. Two of the genders (males and females) were the smart ones, however 2 other genders which are genetically similiar to the males. These lesser genders (Feint and Clamber) are believed to be  walking sexual organs for the species. Feint and Clamber were both needed as part of a complex reproduction procedure that to this very day baffles modern day scientists.

One popular theory states that the Feint produced male genitalia and fused it to the male body and that the Clamber produced female genitalia and fused it to the female body.  As time went by the Kotus evolved to the point where males and females were born with the correct reproductingThis theory has actually been refuted but still popular.

The other theory that is now accepted by scientists is that the Feint and Clamber are the remnants of cross breeding. According to the theory, the Kotus were once sexually compatible with every primate species on the planet. Over time due to changes in the Kotus anatomy over millions of years, they became no longer compatible with other primate species. The Feint and Clamber are actually believed to be remnants of other species. However this just doesn't explain why Feint and Clamber have no survival instincts whatsoever.

Affiliation: The Kotus used to have regular contact with the Protheans. Back then they were pets of the Protheans. But in the current cycle, no other race has yet stumbled across them except the Volus. Volus have mostly ignored the Kotus, but from time to time, some merchants have been known to interfere for business reasons. Volus law enforcers do not hesistate to arrest any person who has even so much as stepped foot on the planet of Horai.

The main reason is because after the "uplifting" of the Krogan species, the entire Krogan society went down hill rapidly. The Volus do not wish to repeat the "mistake" of the Salarians. Thus the Kotus must be allowed to attain space flight on their own merits without outsiders speeding up the process.

Military:   Each nation has it's own Millitary. There have been very few conflicts, and these rarely involve civilians. The effective millitary strength is very low, and  because of  this the Volus has called for the Turian millitary to ensure that no one interferes in the affaires of Horai. So in a way, despite having a very low effective millitary strength, the Kotus are actually one of the most heavily defended species in the galaxy.

My two racial concepts.

With the Mobin I wanted them to be a bit strange but at the same time tragic. I wanted them to have a complicated relationship with the Salarians and to raise questions about the whole (should we interfere with other species or not)? The interference with the Salarians has actually saved the Mobin. But sadly it has also caused conflict too. Both races sharing a mutal resentment over the situation, creating a complex and potentially emotional setup for a story.

With the Kotus, I was thinking of what happens to people with learning difficulties? How do alien species deal with those who have learning difficulties. This shows a spcies that doesn't even try to integrate these unfortunate people and would rather shove them aside allowing for wacky assumptions to emmerge. As a result those who have had bad luck in life are never given opportunities and are treated like dirt.

So two different races covering two different issues that are suprisingly relevant to today's society.

The Mobin situation is actually about superpowers interfeering with less powerful nations. It explores how superpowers can actually be helpful and harmful at the same time.

The Kotus situation is about the way we deal with any disability really. Do we integrate the disabled into society or do we shun them.

With aliens I want them to be wacky, strange but also serve a allegorical purpose. They have to reflect something of our society, without being too preachy. The reason I like disadvantaged species is because it is a way of representing disadvantaged people in real life and giving them a platform within a science fiction/fantasy setting. Also I feel that the science fiction setting is a much less offensive way of portraying complex issues. It can quite often make controversial issues more paletable.

These guys are my original science fiction race, which I took influences from both the Collectors and the Rachni. It's sloppy probably and doesn't make sense with Mass Effect but I'm bored.

THE KRY'AIKE

The Kry'aike homeworld of origin is a dark one. Rotating slowly on its axis, half the Kry'aike Homeworld is dark for most of the year, resulting in an very cold and an almost uncharitable landscape which was even further endangered by the presence of giant animals that roamed the planet's surface. The Kry'aike were once similar to the hive-insects of Earth but eventually evolved into what they are today. Breeder drones were introduced to help balance the constant death toll; bioluminescent eyes to help navigate the darkness; incredibly-durable carapaces to survive potential falls; an organic "solar-panel" to absorb sunlight or moonlight for heat; creative thinking in order to think of new ways to avoid death; and unimaginable strength to fend off predators.

Eventually, the predators began declining on the Kry'aike Homeworld and the Kry'aike took their place as the dominant species. In some unknown time, an event dubbed the Swarm Wars began; a massive, planet-wide war between all of the Kry'aike Hives. It is unknown how long it lasted but it is suggested it ended before they began looking at the universe outside their world. The Swarm Wars eventually ended when the single strongest hive on the planet conquered most of the other hives and established a new order in its territories. The Queen of that hive became the first Kry'aike Empress and the remaining queens became her cohorts. Eventually, the Kry'aike invented space travel and expanded to other worlds. Some time later, they joined the then-young Alignment (a loose alliance between different alien species); unfortunately, the Kry'aike are considered the sleeping giant of the Alignment, being a rather secluded but still important member of it. The Kry'aike are advanced compared to the other species, being almost 20% further than anyone else in the galaxy.

Virtually every form of Kry'aike has five pairs of bioluminescent eyes that differentiate in color depending on the individual's caste, a pitch-black exoskeleton, two mandibles that act as a mouth guard, a domed-shaped cranium and some sort of organic solar panel in the form of a horizontally-lined, fan-like plate located near the neck. But rather interestingly, all Kry'aike seem to possess brains very similar to that of fully-sapient species but evolution has somehow locked "unnecessary" parts of the brain according to the caste of the Kry'aike. Workers, for example, are creative in the art of construction but are completely devoid of any knowledge outside of that.

Easily the most common member of the hive, the Kry'aike Workers are the builders and laborers of the species. Physically, Workers are supported by several pairs of sure-footed legs which only put them at 2 meters tall, and possess blue-colored eyes. Workers are densely packed compared to Warriors but are very hard to knock down. Workers also possess multiple pairs of arms, each one designed to fulfill a certain task (longer, stronger arms for reaching and heavy lifting and smaller arms for more precise tasks like computing or design).

Kry'aike Workers are considered the most peaceful of the species, seeing how they've evolved for a non-combat role and are almost completely single-minded in their tasks. Workers are considered creative and masterful engineers but perhaps the greatest advancement of the worker caste was the evolution of the Breeder Drone. Female Workers dedicated for the creation of new Kry'aike, Breeders are considered a superior improvement over reproducing queen insects from Earth since the death of a single Breeder wouldn't doom a colony.

Kry'aike Warriors are physically intimidating creatures; adolescent warriors usual stand 2½ meters tall but can grow up to an impressive height of 3 meters tall when older. Warriors, unlike workers, stand up erect on a pair of legs and have two arms that end with . They, like all Kry'aike, possess pitch-black exoskeletons, five pairs of eyes, and bioluminescent eyes which in their case, glow green. Warrior exoskeletons, on the other hand, are unique -the armor of their carapaces are incredibly dense and are shaped in a way almost akin to actual battle armor. Warriors are also mountains of strength with hands easily the size of an adult human male torso. Rumors circulate that the largest warriors can stop and lift up a 20,000 lbs. vehicle that was moving at sixty miles per hour; however, these claims are likely fictional since no one has ever reported a Kry'aike preforming such a task.

Kry'aike Warriors are exclusively male and act as the hands, eyes, feet and ears for the Kry'aike outside the hive. Naturally adept in the ways on combat and skilled in the art of warfare, Kry'aike Warriors are the first and last line of defense for the Kry'aike. Most of the time when dealing with alien species, Warriors act as a loose-form of ambassador but are nowhere near the minds of Queens.

Both similar and different to the hive-mind insects of Earth, Kry'aike Queens act as the leaders of the Kry'aike. Physically, queens are similar to warriors in appearance but smaller (being closer to human height) and with purple eyes instead of green. Queens, being the effective leaders of the species, are the least mentally-restricted breed of Kry'aike in the entire species. But unlike the queen insects of Earth, Kry'aike Queens do not populate their hives and rarely exert control over them, rather influence them in their actions thus allowing more creative thinking. Queens are born from other queens who mated.

The closest human equivalent to a Kry'aike Queen is a hereditary title of "mayor". Every hive possess a queen and major decisions that affect the whole race are debated over by the entirety of the queens but the most influential member of this "council" is the Kry'aike Empress. The mantle of Empress is given to whatever Queen is chosen by the Council; and in a sheer test of worthiness, the Empress must rule from the Kry'aike Homeworld, perhaps the most dangerous and inhospitable planet in the whole Kry'aike Empire.

The Observers

Real name: Unknown, unpronouncable
Homeworld: Kyphon, Granimin System, Laconian Zeta Cluster

Appearance: As far as the knowledge goes, the observers are the only known silicon based lifeform in the galaxy that has achieved sapience. They evolved on a world that most other species would describe as an "unlivable rock ".

To a casual viewer a basic observer appears as nothing more than a big chunk of translucent crystals and metals, however they glow with inner energy source and are able to move with an electromagnetic phenomenon they can replicate naturally. They are also able to change their forms, tough this takes hours or days of concentration and effort. Observers that are able to mimic humanoid crystal form are the most common and took this form after being found by Citadel explorers first time.  Tough this was not the first they they had taken it which suggest they had some early contacts with other species and learned to mimic that form which they found useful.

The observers are photo- and lithovores, feeding on sunlight and minerals. They are not comfortable in oxygen atmospheres and most contact with other species happens via videoscreens or suited encounters in environments of their liking. They have an incredibly long lifespan, lasting over 5000 years given that theres enough energy available. There are no sexes and reproduction happens by "shedding of minerals", tough very rarely given their long lifespans. They are also immune to all known diseases.

Society: Since there are no predators or prey on their planet, and an abundance of food and resources, the observers evolved to be completely pacifistic.  Very little other than work takes place in observers life, they mostly spend their time working, conversing with others observers and philosophizing about the mysteries of universe. Their evolution has been slow, and it is suspected they have passed at least 4 reaper cycles, without going into space, making them the oldest surviving sapient race in the galaxy, aside from leviathans. Their technology is very advanced, with ships that have a really alien, crystalline design to anything known. The observers dont like to meddle into other species affairs, tough they are curious about the rest of the galaxy, prefering to just observe.

Affiliation: True Neutral. Observers have shown no intrest to join the Citadel, even less to the Terminus Systems. They live in a small far rim region of Skyllian Verge, near Armstrong Nebula, where they prefer to stay. Friendly ships are welcome to their terratory if carefully escorted in and out. They have been known to trade rare and exotic minerals for information about the rest of the galaxy.

Military: Unknown, but given their high technology, it is assumed no living species wants to start a war with them.
