We don't have anything additional to comment on this time that hasn't already been commented in the gate thread. Our response remains the same:

It is being investigated. Currently we have found no issues with the gates, and after heavy digging through the code, there is nothing that has been changed that would touch them, however we are not saying that there absolutely is no problem, just that we haven't located it at this time.

Our efforts have mostly shifted however to seeing what changes we'd like to make towards fixing the unintended spike in difficulty. After implementing some of those fixes we will see what effect that is having if any on this issue and then reassess.

Thanks for the response Chris. I understand that troubleshooting is difficult and requires a lot of time and effort. My worry was simply that the thread Eric posted still made the claim that the gates were working as intended.

Could I get your thoughts on this video in particular? You can see quite clearly that I go from 3 bars of health to dead in one hunter blast. There is no healthgate present. I understand there is a certain level of ambiguity (as there always will be in these situations) but I am 100% certain that the only thing that hit me at the time was the Hunter shot.

I guess what I would like to know is: does this video convince you that there is a problem with healthgates, even though the troubleshooting team has had no luck in finding anything wrong?

Thanks.

How can you be 100% certain without omnipotence? Not saying you're a bad player but you can't see everywhere at all times.

Deduction and reasoning. There were no enemies who could kill me without me noticing. A hunter or rocket trooper would be very noticeable, there was no turret within range and there were no pyros in range either. The Prime couldn't hit me and there are no troopers past wave 5.

How do you know there wasn't a turret not in your line of sight?

I don't want to derail this thread too much into talking about difficulty, Lord_Sirian created it primarily to talk about the health gates so lets try to keep it on topic.

For quick difficulty answers, our initial changes will probably target bronze and silver, from testing at work, playing at home, and assessing the information we've gotten back, it's pretty clear we've harmed the experience of the players who prefer to play on those difficulties, particularly with Cerberus.

We are all mostly happy with how gold is playing, and most of us play gold at home on our retail normal accounts, but are keeping an eye on things and haven't decided yet what if anything we are going to do there.

We have been looking out for this health/shield gate issue while playing live at home, we don't use special copies of the game, I play on 360 with a normal collectors edition on my normal cable internet connection. I havn't seen this issue happen yet and I'm playing a few hours every night right now. But again, there could still be something there, and when and if we find it, we'll report further.

We know this is a pretty big community concern right now so we're trying to stay very vocal about what the state of things is.

And as much as we may complain, we genuinely appriciate it.  You guys have been so vocal lately, and I for one, love that you're commenting on our concerns and investigating.

Because turrets require LOS to shoot you?

Leave gold and platinum alone, please. The increase in difficulty works there. As for the lower difficulties, I agree, a change is probably needed.

Wow. Thanks again for the replies Chris. It's great to know that you guys think there may be an issue with Cerberus at lower difficulties... I definitely agree. They were somewhat easy before, but adding the Dragoon has made them more difficult for many players. Getting the wrong objective against Cerberus is a nightmare now. I feel like Collectors should only be that hard on Objective waves. Oddly enough, most people think Reapers are easiest now... total flip from when the game came out.

Back to subject... good to know Bioware is still investigating everything. Keep up the good work I suppose. :)

Because the turrets get placed in fixed positions on each map. I know the majority of them. There wasn't one that could hit me.

I am glad to hear this. One of my main isssues w/ the difficulty increase of late has been its exponential effect on bronze and silver, as those players seem to be feeling the most jarring changes in difficulty, which is amplified by how much longer/harder it is to make a good manifest w/ the slower rewards form thsoe settings.

Wait no, don't change the difficulty on Silver. It's great where it's at right now. The Shieldgate/Healthgate issue is kind of an odd one. I only experience it with the Scions, Praetorians, Atlas and Phantoms, sometimes Hunters.

LOS being what is in front of him. There could be one behind him that isn't in his LOS but he is in its LOS

I thought that would be obvious.

Perhaps I should have used a winkey smiley instead.

Anyway, he was killed by the Hunter (check the killfeed), so unless that turret healthgated him first by ripping off all of his health in 1 frame, the Hunter did it all by himself.

I'm snipping this pyramid.

I was unaware of fixed positions for turrets. Never heard it before, but thinking on it I do only see them at certain positions. I don't know what these are for Jade. I avoid that map and geth generally.

Aren't Hunters capable of double shotting? I recall when put into stasis and other stun mechanics they can immediately unload their weapon on whatever target they are aiming at. It may just be stasis though. I'm not coming up with anything else that could do you in at the moment.

I seriously doubt anyone who says they are 100% certain in anything by default. Implying omnipotence is... cocky IMO.

To be honest, the difficulty increase I'm experiencing on my Silver games has actually made me improve my gold performance substantially - even with the gate issues (and I'm a full-blast novaguard most of the time, if there's a build that suffers most from gate issues, it's that one), so I don't know if Silver should be lowered... it's actually a decent "training ground" for getting me accustumed to gold now instead of the charge->nova->win it was before.

i think the GPS is glitchy and it seems to pass Gate shield on enemies, so it could happen to you. Scions have a dot just strong enough to stop your shield from recharging, could cause a potential problem with healthgate. Praetorians eye beam isn't a singe hit, it's a beam attack hitting multiple times, causes it to bypass shield gate, the collector troopers and captains have automatic guns, causes gates to not be ass effective. I've heard atlases now have a dot with the rocket too... Phantoms just ****** me off

which is what I am implying is possible. Although a huge stretch. I'm not really interested in what did it though rather than was it possible in the time period displayed.

Hunters always seem to kill me in any way possible, whether I'm at full shields or not. Geth cheat, so no offense intended but maybe not the best faction to use a video test for...

Maybe try an Atlas? The 4 shots could give you a better idea?

So the Scions do have a DoT, that explains it then. It's weird cause sometimes I can take all three shots and live(Very surprising indeed) then take one when brought to shieldgate. I've just learned to accept death no matter where it came from. Praetorians.....so they use Particle beams then? That explains that then. I will just have to learn to evade their lazors of doom. The Atlas' DoT is somewhat small. That's also not what I meant either. It's regular gun shots are what kill me.

Being a client can lead to situations like in the original video this since there is a delay between getting up to date health information from the host. There could have been a delay between receiving a health bar update from the host that would have put you in your health gate, before the next update which killed you. In my opinion, it is not possible to conclusively say that the health or shield gates are not working on a client with a video since clients only see a simulation of the game. On Gold, there is only a 0.1 second gate, which is often shorter than the ping time between players. Even if the client doesn't "see" the gate, it is still happening on the host since the host has full authority on all damage systems.

Eric, a bit of curiosity here. Was it intended for a sound to go off when you're brought to both Gates? If so, are you supposed to hear it three times in the span of about 3 seconds?

While I understand this and I can see your point of view (I know how frustrating it is to look for a problem only to not find it or anything that should cause it). I did not experience this sort of thing at all before the patch which fixed the Vanguard glitch (which I am very grateful for BTW). I always got healthgate unless it was an autofire enemy like a trooper or geth turret etc.

Since the patch I have been getting one-shotted by single enemies with slow powerful weapons. (Like a hunter, Atlas etc.) Scions do it as well.

I know all about lag (play with it all the time) and I know what dying to lag looks/feels like. This was not a lag death. It was simply bam bam two shots, dead from health and shields.

This wouldn't have happened pre-patch, I hope you can understand why I feel the way I do. I promise I am not just trying to stir up trouble for you guys. :innocent: And believe me when I say I appreciate the work you guys put in, even if I don't always show it.
