I don't want to derail this thread too much into talking about difficulty, Lord_Sirian created it primarily to talk about the health gates so lets try to keep it on topic.

For quick difficulty answers, our initial changes will probably target bronze and silver, from testing at work, playing at home, and assessing the information we've gotten back, it's pretty clear we've harmed the experience of the players who prefer to play on those difficulties, particularly with Cerberus.

We are all mostly happy with how gold is playing, and most of us play gold at home on our retail normal accounts, but are keeping an eye on things and haven't decided yet what if anything we are going to do there.

We have been looking out for this health/shield gate issue while playing live at home, we don't use special copies of the game, I play on 360 with a normal collectors edition on my normal cable internet connection. I havn't seen this issue happen yet and I'm playing a few hours every night right now. But again, there could still be something there, and when and if we find it, we'll report further.

We know this is a pretty big community concern right now so we're trying to stay very vocal about what the state of things is.

So gold will likely stay about the same. Bronze/silver will be tweaked

I added emphasis.

I'm not sure how you could break 1/2 of the difficulty settings without effecting the other 2 in the same manner.

It could very well be that some of the other fixes would help gold, too.

O.o I like they are looking into it, but I do think the "spike" made many people better players.

I have noticed in my Recruit Pack medigel grinding that I'm occasionally using them on Silver. Silver. Jeez. Gold/Plat difficulty spike is a cool thing, not so much on Bronze and Silver...

Leave my gold out of this. Gold is very ok.

If you play gold and are at about my skill level, then you'd notice.  If you regularly play platinum and have uber maxed weapons, then you're probably not going to feel it.

It's kinda like flu season for people with compromised immune systems.  You're probably immune to some of this given your skill and evolution of weapons and gear.  Metaphorically speaking, I'm on the couch with Puffs, theraflu, tea, and a fleece blanket.

What I'm noticing is the the number of enemies seems to have increased.  I don't know if it's the spawning or the shear number, but more seem to come ...and faster.  Also, they seem to overrun hackzones faster and mob/melee stun you quicker.  That last one pisses me off the most.

silver definitely aint the same. gold is ALMOST the same... but a little harder. Plat is about the same.
it seems the spike begins at bronze goes up a bit to silver then starts a downward trend toward the
gold/plat difficulties.

i dont mind it tho, either way. The way i see it... i just gotta play better.

for the record.... Gold Geth = fkn annoying. hate it.

I think what they mean is there are some weapons /powers that are so powerful at this time that it appears the health/shield gates are not working properly.

For instance, last night with a Krogan Sentinel versus Silver Collectors, there was only one enemy left at the end of a wave, a non-possessed Scion. I had full health and shields and had to run across the map to reach him so there was defintely no gate cooldown active. One shot from his cannon thing took me down to two bars of health and the second shot killed me. Based on BioWare's explanation of the gate mechanics, the first shot should have hit the shield gate, the secod shot break the gate and bleed into health and the 3rd shot hit the health gate.

Now, since their internal testing hasn't turned up any changes in the gates and they are shifting focus to unintentional difficulty spikes, one can assume that the above situation with two shots putting down a Krogan that there may be times that the enemy deals so much damage that the gates simply don't matter.

I don't think the gates work that way.

I think that first shot, if powerful enough, immediately breaks your shield gate, the second shot breaks your health gate, and the third shot kills you. So three shots should be enough to kill you. If it worked the way you described it, it would take four shots to kill you (one to bring you to shieldgate, one to break the gate, one to break healthgate, one to kill, at least that's what i understood from you post).

Correct  me if I'm wrong, please.

Oh I was addressing only bronze and silver specifically. With the addition of new enemies people need better gear to deal with it. Trying to mow down a bomber with a uncommon weapon is pretty time consuming and can get you ganked from behind.

This applies to all difficulties I suppose. I don't know. I'm not saying it's the hole problem, just a part of it

(Sorry I didn't see you post that before)

Silver feels like Gold used to feel.  Not as many bosses as gold, though.  I could extract on silver without using any rockets and most of my other consumables.  Now? I'm using rockets more to take out mobs who spam melee on downed->rezzing team mates!

I don't mind a harder Gold.  For a while, I started to contemplate platinum because Gold didn't feel as hard as it used to.

I'm sure over time I will adapt, but some of the crap is down right BS.  My main gripe is the stunlock/spam melee/rez death nonsense.  The enemy AI is now greifing you! LOL.

"Difficulty is fine" says those who have a lot of good weapons, attachments, and gear maxed.
I used to say that, with a few exceptions, until I played with a friend's account that does not have is gear maxed.

I don't remember Gold being as hard for me on my account as the silver playing on his.
It is INSANE.

You guys are taking level 5 attachments, and level X weapons for granted, the game is much harder without all that.
Trying to play Silver with mid-range Uncommon weapons was an absolute horror, I think it plays like Gold used to... just with more mooks and fewer "bosses".

Great, now Silver's going to be easier. I don't want to play primarily Gold for a challenge because my body is not yet ready for that kind of punishment, but I may just have to deal with that. Moar monies!

If you want it harder go up a difficulty level. For the rest of us whatever level we play at is a lot harder now than it was a week or two ago.

And i'ts not just that #$%*"£#'@ geth bomber...

I love fighting Dragoons. Yes the cone out in mobs, I did recently find out that they are invincible when in the middle of smashing. Then again I can only recall fighting them on Gold with a Batarian soldier. But true the difficulty has spiked and I have yet to beat the Collectors on Gold. Though BW seems pleased with the difficulty with Gold games now.

Dragoons are easy. It's the new Atlas missiles and increased Atlas durability alongside Engineer turrets that will make your life hell.

Cerberus has got nothing on stunlockhappy Geth and the hyper-durable Collectors, though.

You probably wouldn't have noticed upinya, since I imagine you rarely play anything below gold.  Apparently, bronze/silver players have gotten the difficulty spike

ah, got it. Then they should fix it. Gold and platinum feel fine where thay are at to me.

there's a spike in difficulty.

if 1 normal collector troop or a scion or whatsoever takes me out with one shot (1400 shields + 900 health) then something is very wrong here and that's on silver!
before the dlc I could take some hits (1-3) before getting myself killed but since the dlc if you get shot 1 time it's a death sentence which leads to wasting huge amounts of medigel and ops pack.
also almost any extraction with collectors require missile for their stupid thing to sneak behind you with praetorian (no sound) and sync kill people even while running around the map.

challenge is good, decent chance to play is better.

Get rid of or at least toning down stunlock would do wonders.

That isn't right.  I am able to BE them when they are using the yellow whips which will stagger them then all it takes is a few shots to the head to finish them off.

I got you. its all relative. The spawn budget hasn't changed. Maybe the enemies just got more aggresive? Its hard to tell if they all die so quick :innocent:

I still think Gold needs a slight tonedown.
I am not a mediocre player, and any PUG team I am in tends to get overwhelmed on Gold unless I am using one of my powerhouses of a class.
Example
Ghost W/Harrier
Destroyer W/Piranha
Paladin W/ Piranha
GI W/Collector Sniper
Havoc W/Harrier

Well... that's about all I can call off the top of my head, that is all I can use without level III consumables needed.
Furthermore, there is no longer any such thing as a "smooth" gold match. Maybe against Reapers, maybe. Fact remains that PUGs are crap (FBWGG was never a huge problem on PC), and I cannot come close to carrying without insane antiarmor DPS now. Can't play adepts, engineers, or Vanguards. Two infiltrators, two soldiers, and one Sentinel are able to do well on Gold.
I'm gonna have to stop PUGing soon...

Do you not see the problem? Almost impossible to do well without top-level rare gear, and given the sheer amount of Gold gear you have to play Gold matches for months to get enough credits to unlock them..
Problem for those who already have the weapons and gear, no. For those trying to get into Gold, yes most definitely.

That can be attributed to the mindlessly aggresive Dragoons.  Bumrush, stunlock up close, and hornet-snipe.  A weaker, several times more aggressive Phantom.
