Changing what your character looks like had no in-game effect. You pick it at the beging to set future options. Changing your gender effects future dialog and even some quests. Resetting it mid game could have any number of massive game-play effects, for example, if not all party members are bi this time (which I hope they're not, just because it's so unrealistic, I don't care if a LI is gay, or bi, but to make them all bi was just fake) and you spend most of the game romancing a LI and then change genders, well you can see how that would effects your game.

I just don't see how this would be of any benefit to the game tbh. Being able to tweak your appearance would be fantastic, but playing around with gender mid-game just makes no sense. I'm very much of gender not being binary etc etc, but like, even I'm stumped at how this would be a positive addition to the gameplay.

Umm ... ok ... that would lead to some strange effects, I guess.

But why should anyone want to change the gender during the game?

Gender? No. Add scars? Yes. (not of the genital mutilation variety).

Heh, they had something like that in Jade Empire. Your LIs reaction was worth seeing.

Out of all the strange requests that I have seen for this game so far...this one ranks somewhere in the middle.

I could see some potential for comedy gold with a short "gender swap" quest. But as an actual feature? No thanks.

I don't understand this comment. If playing around with appearance is 'fantastic' than how does playing around with gender make 'no sense?'

Gender affects appearance.

Bring back the Girdle of Gender from BG? Sure, why not.

I always threw one on Minsc. Imagine the possible party banter if you threw one on Sten in DAO.

This would be a great idea. If we're allowed to change our appearance (which is a good feature, given that we don't always know how we're going to look in the game environments), changing gender as well makes perfect sense.

If you can change it, your armor should still reflect your original gender just to make it even more weird/awkward.

Because the lighting is ****ty when creating the characters appearance (for me it was anyway), and believe me, it wasn't much run playing a dark haired character with ginger eyebrows (and only realising this fact many hours into the game...). You can't accidentally make a male character though. Perhaps fantastic was a little...overeager on my part, but semantics

Changing my characters gender doesn't make any sense to me, but that's just my opinion. If I want to play with a guy, I'll play as a guy. If I want to play as a woman, I'll play as a woman. I don't particularly (IMO) see the necessity of adding another feature like this into the game. Even make it so there is no way to change how a character looks...I just think a gender changing feature opens up a lot of realm to people going to abuse it. Idk, just thinking out loud now I suppose.

The only reason I can think of to do this would be to troll NPCs. That might be fun for fifteen minutes but otherwise pointless and a waste of better-spent resources.

Am I the only one who thinks that if implemented right, this could be at least somewhat interesting? It reminds me a bit of that sex change potion in Fable 2 and while the way you get that was kind of crappy, I think it could actually be a very interesting option when playing a transgender character. If this were done as more than a joke option, it could make playing that sort of character in Dragon Age possible as well (outside of headcanoning it). ...Though tbh, I don't see a feature like this being implemented in such a way.

I'm lost, where's the abuse in this?

Also,

Sten: I don't understand, I look like a woman.
Warden: Sten, you ARE a woman.
Sten: I am Sten of the Beresaad, so it follows that I CAN'T be a woman.
Warden: Uh....?
Later....
Warden: Sten, what happened to your gear?
Sten: Sten's not here right now. Would you like a cookie?
Warden: ......
Later still....
Warden: Sten! Come on buddy, we gotta get ready for the big fight.
Sten: I told you, Sten's not here right now. I think I've mastered Wynne's pie recepie. Here, taste this and tell me if I have it right.
Warden: ARGH! You can still hold a sword idiot!
