Why just limit the change to gender? Why not go for a complete sex change as well?

The idea seems rather silly as you can select your character's sex at the start of game typically. The D&D item was generally used to shake up sexist players (much more commonplace in times past) or as a gag.

I hope the developers doesn`t put any effort or resources into creating this option. Its a pointless option, and any effort can be spent on other areas of the game production instead.

That.

You want to change gender of your charcter and you call yourself an RPG player? Hair, maybe even face like in Black Emporium, but the whole thing? Where's the devotion to create your character? You did a bad choice? Spend some time and do the choices you will like. Stop whining people about such things or play non RPG games...

Why the hell would you want that? You get to choose your Gender at the start of the game.

Unless the reason for this is that you want to be identified as a transgendered Inquisitor for the rest of the game.

"It's okay to be able to radically altar your character's appearance after starting the game, but changing their sex? That's just ridiculous and way to be a sucky RPer!"

Be more arbitrary, people.

I think that this would potentially cause a lot of issues with anything in game that is reactive to the character's gender, and has already occurred in the past and therefore been set.

If done in the same manner as the mirror in DA2 I agree, but if done in the manner of a cursed item as was done in previous games it could be accounted for with much less immersion breaking.

Of course, it would also bring up other issues. For instance, part of the point of cursed items like gender-changing belts is to teach people to not use things before they know what they are. Since the item would be identified as soon as the player picked it up, that element of suprise is gone.

In Sten's case, my assumption is that he was tricked into putting it on.

Sten: I don't understand, I look like a woman.
Warden: Sten, you ARE a woman.
Sten: I am Sten of the Beresaad, so it follows that I CAN'T be a woman.
Warden: Uh....?
Later....
Warden: Sten, what happened to your gear?
Sten: Sten's not here right now. Would you like a cookie?
Warden: ......
Later still....
Warden: Sten! Come on buddy, we gotta get ready for the big fight.
Sten: I told you, Sten's not here right now. I think I've mastered Wynne's pie recepie. Here, taste this and tell me if I have it right.
Warden: ARGH! You can still hold a sword idiot!

Wait, what? Sten turns into a woman so he suddenly starts baking? You gotta be sh!ttin me! :pinched:

It's the Qunari's way, stay in the kitchen, woman.

I still can't imagine Sten as a woman though.

Let's really throw your head for a spin, and say that there's no change in voice actor.

Baking is logical. If Sten can no longer fight, and we assume that Sten isn't the type to sit around and do nothing, that leaves the passion for cookies, leading into baked goods in general.

Yes I know. Gender is a social construct, and sex is biological. But the OP is saying Gender so I'm going to as well.

Also changing your gender in the middle of the game would **** up your LI's. Unless they make all of the bisexual again.. Don't get me wrong I'm bi myself(heteromantic) but..

Please no please no please no.

I hated that "feature" with a passion.

This is something I hope they do not implement.

Changing hair or make up is one thing; people don't react to it.Changing sex (or gender as the OP says) would be a bigger issue. NPCs and dialogue can change based the player's sex, and that just leads to way more potential issues to crop up.

If you want to change, then just start a new game. The only reason to have it in the game is so that the player can troll their party members, and that just seems like a useless feature.

What about changing race? One morning you're a Dalish elf, next you're a Dwarf lol

Yay, you're aware then :)

I honestly don't care whether or not a feature like this is implemented. It's not derogatory, but instead conveniently nonsensical and harmless.

Truth be told; being able to change gender in DA2 would have made no problems at all. Every love interest was way into you no matter what gender you were, and the game never really had any incling of what gender Hawke was either.

Why do you want to change your gender during a playthrough. Why not start a new playthrough?

We could apply exactly the same argument to respec options, and yet those seem quite popular.

The player could change his PC's gender, and then retcon everything that happened before.

Picture Alistair having sex with a female Warden. Wakes up, and finds out she is a he.

And always has been.  That's what retconning means.

This particular Pandora's box was opened as soon as people started expecting respec options.  Changing the character's sex is no different.

I think it be awesome to able to change mid game it be like creating a charactar without having to start over again, an you be able to see both gender scenes an one playthrough.

I challenge the writers to write an optional transgender storyline. :wizard:

Because... Why not?

Poorly thought out topic, what a shock! i'll point & laugh at the TC later

He at least accidently brought up something not laughibly silly, the ability to chanbge apearance returning, aka the magic mirror, THIS needs to return in EVERY BIOWRE GAME MADE

Playing a transsexual character, for example. If done right -- so not just like the Emporium, where nobody reacts to the change -- this could turn out pretty awesome.

If by "awesome" you mean hilarious, and awkward then yes. It would be.

I don't see why we need magic to change our hair and make-up.. surely there will be barbers etc in Orlais.
