Next playthrough I wanna change my characters appearance as years go on. I think they should keep the mirror for DA3 for that reason so that way as time goes on I can change his hair and stuff to account for the passage of time.Or if I don't like how my character came out.

Agreed.

I changed my character's hair each act on one of my playthroughs and it really helped to convey the passage of time. Only did it the once because there was a risk of ending up with them all looking the same by the end.

You know its not just the hair... its that ugly combination of hair and face which makes them look incredible unfitting. BW needs t\\o hire a fashion adviser or something

I'd give anything for my character to have Saskia's hair from The Witcher 2... or something similar! Bioware needs to really change up their styles for both male and female. Make it look a bit more like real hair and not plasticine caked on their heads.

Actually come to think of it TW2 was full of pretty ladies and men with lovely hair!

please BW consider!!

I'm hoping someone from the Art team has seen this thread. Hopefully the team is still concepting and can take our feedback into consideration? Better textures as well as styles. Diverse selection and open gender hair.

Copy pasted looking bangs, facial hair and braids are not what we hope to see in DA3.

Not sure who the Art director is...

edit:  i know there is a limitation on polycount, but please try to milk as much realestate as possible for characters. Environments can get the tricks, but characters are a huge part of roleplay.  I spents hours in DA2 trying to make Hawke perfect.

note: pudding faces are also bad. There are bones in our faces and skin has texture (more than young, middle aged, and old).

further note: highlights, lowlights, dark/light roots and tips, shine and multicolors  are nice sliders to have. A beard shape and density slider too. Hair length slider.

I don't really want to see any styles which look like they'd require a magnum of products.

So. Much. This.

I've mentioned my distate for the dreadful male hairstyles a few times on these forums...Not just the ones in DA, but in every bioware game ever. Frankly, they suck in this regard. I mean, most game companies do, but bioware games are where I care most about what my character looks like, and these are objectively hideous. They should never have made it into the game...

And for the record, mods do not provide good short hairstyles for male characters. I repeat, short hairstyles. The vast majority of male hairstyles in mods are long; in fact, a lot of them just take already-present female hairstyles and put them on a male head. In all the mods I've seen since DAO came out, I've found exactly one hairstyle I sort of liked.

Friar Tuck and Sonic the Hedgehog , no kidding <_<

And the lack of short, nice male ones (that don't look like they belong on either women, which isn't bad but not what I'm looking for, or in Final Fantasy) is one of many reasons I don't play men in DA games.

EDIT: links were failing, many, many times.

I thought the hairstyle that Alistair had looked pretty good. It's the only one I've ever used in all of my male DAO playthroughs lol..

The customization interface needs a major overhaul period. All the hair, face features, textures, lack of body type customization, etc, need work. There are PSP games that have better grasp of the matter from early 2004... At least look at Saints Row the 3rd for some inspiration...

Dragons Dogma has the best character creator i've ever seen. It has loads of hairstyles and all of them are open to both genders.

At the very least, DA3 needs some good short hair for females :P

I have to disagree - a lot of my favorite hairstyles for women end at the shoulders. But if we could have some longer styles, or styles that suggest that your hair is longer (like some of the buns and other updo's we've seen, but with more variety) I'd really, really like that.

things like this:
http://t2.gstatic.co...JFh8nqydzeURjml

So we technically get long hair, but without the issues of clipping (assuming that clipping is still an issue once we have Frostbite 2). Long, unsecured hair isn't especially practical for an adventurer anyway - it's just pretty.

Also, our men need low ponytails.  Manly men don't wear their ponytails high like a cheerleader (unless they're David Beckham). Again, I think that was a clipping issue, but Duncan would have looked 20% cooler with a low ponytail.

And I think it would be amazing if we were given different, more elaborate hairstyles if we appear at a ball or other posh event. Posted Image
The guys could have fancy hats, as a masculine alternative.

Pretty pretty braided hair   <3   love it!  Would prefer this to the two Anora-Leia-buns. It is fun with braids, but I prefer them as this. It would really have suited my Act 3 mage Hawke being a little prettied up.

I liked the upgrade in hairstyles but yeah, Skyrim had great ones (which Bioware is looking into) and Dragon's Dogma does too but also, where are the black hairstyles? I want some more diverse hairstyles like a fade, fauxhawk, dreads, etc.

I'd say the FEMALE character designs in DA1 and DA2 were both dreadful!

DA2 has a step up in terms of making the women actually look like women, and has 'slightly better' hair options than DA1.. but AS a female gamer, I would NEVER be caught DEAD with a noose in my hair. Who decided "oh wouldn't it be cool if the girls tied their hair back in a noose? Yea, what a great idea! Let's add it to 3/4 of the hairstyles! Oh and lets give all of the girls flat hair. Why should girls look like girls anyway?"

Negative Bioware, negative.

I spend 1-4 hours on MY hair in real life. I expect the female portrayals of me to also spend at LEAST 15 minutes making their bangs look nice.

Bioware games have always had really bad female character designs imo.
ncSoft games have always had really good female character designs imo.

Male designs never matter. Guys don't care about how they look in RL, I doubt they care how they look in game

... Honey, I could have done without your judgmental malarkey.  Women don't need to slave over their hair to look feminine.   BW hairstyles COULD be better.  Saying that the female characters need to have perfect hair or else they don't look like women is COMPLETELY ANOTHER THING and is not cool with me.

Usually I resort to helmets/hats if the hairstyles are bad, but if the hats are equally hideous it creates something of a dilemma for me. While I'd definitely appreciate seeing additional unique hairstyles...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT MAGE HATS TOO!

^I really hate when they create a "look" for the default PC and block aspects of it (the hairstyle, the DA2 blood smear, ME3 fem!Shep's facial texture) from being used on a customizable PC.  I play on console and don't have the ability to mod, but we shouldn't even have to tweak the game to get these options - they're already IN the game!

My big problem with the DA2 hair is that the bangs in many of the hairstyles looked very blocky.  Real bangs don't look like an unbroken curtain - they are softer and you can see an actual forehead behind the hair.

Just don't go anime with it is all I ask. I really wanted the hair style for default female hawke, since it looked the best as to what a female warrior would have (hair doesn't get in her eyes or grabbed if her helmet falls off) but nothing really worked. I did change her hair after every time jump which helped it look like she changed even slightly over the course of the game.

Oh, aren't generalizations wonderful. The "make women look like women" thing was already addressed, but... You do realize that not all men don't care about their looks? there are plety who do. (Just like there are plenty of women who don't give a **** about theirs.) And that not all people who play male characters are male? There are women who play male characters that would like to them to look good. There are also people like me who identify as neither gender and I can assure you, I care enough that the first thing I did after getting DA:O on PC was to download hair mods. And I'm still not satisfied. (Particularly since I can't find a decent low pony tail for males. If anyone knows of one...)

u know, i've been wondering about that as well. it seems like a feature carried over from the mass effect series, where we are not allowed to modify the default male shepard look. its understandable in that case since default shepard is actually based of a dutch model's face (and also being higher res than the custom faces). here in dragon age 2, that just seems arbitrary.
