Yeah, its brilliant, like a game of you-charge-I-charge.

Actually makes her really easy if you have the Claymore

What would be a good squad to do the Reaper IFF mission without cheesing it with the Cain?

I was thinking of people who have good AoE attacks and can strip armor fast, so Samara or Mordin or Zaeed. Thought about changing my bonus power to Inferno grenade as well just for this mission. Thoughts?

Depends.
Inferno Grenade is a terrible power, possibly the worst bonus power in the game. Here is a test I ran showing how good (or bad) Inferno Grenade is versus armor.

Cryo Ammo, particularly Squad Cryo Ammo is probably the best ammo power for this mission, since husks automatically die when frozen or knocked off their feet. Samara (Area Reave) or Mordin (Incineration Blast) are good for stripping armor so you can freeze husks quicker, but I prefer squadies with crowd control abilities like Mordin or Jack so I can concentrate on taking down armor myself.

You will have to watch for Scions taking pot shots at you, but that is not too bad. Since the Soldier has increased Storm Speed in passive, you can rush Scions, take a shot and/or elbow, then rush outside the radius of their area attack.

If you do not care about "lore", then Area Reave is a really good bonus power. Soldier with Reave plus squadmates with good crowd control abilities--Mordin (Cryo Blast), Jack (Pull, Shockwave), and Samare/Morinth (Pull, Throw)--can complete the Reaper IFF without firing a shot (except the core of course). It may take a little longer, but it is a fun challenge.

Here is how I did it: Part 1 and Part 2.
Here is how capn233 did it: Part 1 and Part 2.

Like RC said, don't take Inferno Grenade.

ME2 is more about CC than DPS and the Derelict Reaper mission exemplifies that. That mission is basically a gauntlet of Husk rushes, so you want AoE debuffs and CC (which instakills Husks). The only sources of real damage are Scions, but those can be dealt with easily as long as Husks/Abominations aren't stunlocking you.

The best squaddies IMO are Samara, Kasumi, Mordin, Thane and Jack. Basically your squad would be setup to continuously debuff and CC hordes. Samara is mainly useful for fast Pull Field and Throw Field (you need to tweak your coalesced a bit in order to make Area Reave a useful debuff). Kasumi's Flashbang Grenade instakills debuffed Husks and disables Scions for a very long time. Mordin's Incineration Blast is an awesome AoE debuff and his Full Cryo Blast is an awesome Husk killer. Thane brings DPS muscle vs Scions with Warp and his Incisor, while his Throw Field is very effective on Husks. Jack is mainly useful for Pull Field and CD bonus.

Given the above squaddies, Shepard should make full use of whatever relevant powers he/she has: Squad Cryo Ammo, Incineration Blast, Stasis (for the Scions), Singularity, etc. etc.

There are lots of choke points and raised platforms you can set up on to gain a lot of advantage on this mission. Ideally you want Husks/Abominations to clump up on the stairways, where you should be able to hit at least 2-3 at a time. Most importantly, Abominations tend to have trouble hitting elevated targets, so if you position properly on the catwalks, you whould be mostly protected from their attacks, which buys you more time to kill the Husks first, before focus firing on the Scions.

I personally find the Cain is only really useful for skipping the final fight. Otherwise that fight is pretty straightforward - kill Husks until the core opens so you can shoot it out. It should only take 2-3 cycles to finish that off.

edit - I meant Inferno Grenade, not ammo

Inferno grenades seem a bit on the weak side in ME 2.

But they're not too shabby in Mass Effect 3.

I got it on my first try, haha. I specced for Squad Cryo instead of Area Reave (not enough points to have both >_>)

Used Samara and Mordin, alternating between Reave/Cryo and Incinerate/Throw.

That's a shame about Inferno Grenade, I always thought it looked really cool and picked it when I played on lower difficulties. At least it got massively buffed for ME3 :D

My favourite run through the ship was definitely with my Sentinel, Samara and Jack. Me and Samara stripping protections, Jack just shockwaving the husks all day long like ten-pin bowling.

Yeah for plugs! ;)

In all seriousness, for Derelict Reaper as a Soldier, don't worry about the bonus power whatsoever. Keys to this mission are Inferno Ammo, Squad Cryo Ammo, Adrenaline Rush, and Combat Mastery. Whatever weapons you want, but I would recommend the Viper with Inferno Ammo for killing the Scions. It is probably the best all around weapon for that (good damage, armor multiplier, and range). And it meshes with Inferno Ammo and Adrenaline Rush well. You can take Cryo on the gun you want to kill husks with, although I prefer to just run Shepard's weapons with Inferno for stripping their armor, then using a team power to instakill them. Either way works.

Mordin with Samara is easily the best squad on this mission (even if I rarely used them here for story purposes) because both can strip armor from a group of husks (Incineration Blast and Area Reave), and can also instakill a group (Full Cryo Blast, Throw Field). They also both have rapid fire weapons for use with Squad Cryo ammo. IIRC, I showed my typical squad positioning for the core fight (near the door). You put a team there with Squad Cryo and a little bit of management and tanking on Shepard's part and you can get through it smoothly.

Kasumi is also a good squad member, as Improved Flashbang will instakill a lot of husks if their armor is stripped. Only thing is that you can't strip armor fast enough to keep pace with the IF's 9m radius. :)

Thane likewise has a good instakill husk power, and an ok anti-armor power, but it isn't an area power. Hence not as good as Mordin or Kasumi.

Jack has the fastest Pull Field if she is leveled up. The problem is that she is a shotgun squadmate, so if you don't have the GPS her weapons will be poor. And she has not anti-armor power.

Jacob is somewhat similar to Jack in most regards. With a Soldier he isn't very helpful since you already have Incendiary Ammo, and Cryo is better for the squad here anyway.

Miranda isn't a good fit here because she has one anti-armor power, and only one husk instakill power, if loyal, and it isn't AOE. That said, I have taken her on this mission a fair number of times.

Grunt can tank somewhat if you leveled up his passive for regen. Concussive Shot will instakill an unprotected husk, but it is practically never AOE. He has Incendiary Ammo, but that doesn't help a soldier here.

Zaeed likewise has Concussive Shot, and his other powers are near useless here.

Garrus also has Concussive Shot. While his other powers are useless, the vast majority of playthroughs on that mission I had him in my squad. :)

Tali is basically as useless on this mission as on nearly all missions, save ones with a lot of synthetics. You can distract Scions with Combat Drone, but it typically does not last very long.

Basically, when against Reapers on Insanity, use cheese powers.

Also, Shep's Combat Drone is wonderful for tying up Scions and triggering spawns by remote (though the triggering can be a bit biuggy).

Yeah shame they're useless, because they have that cool bit of dialogue in this mission.

My intention was to capture on video instances where Harbinger is sometimes unaffected by Flashbangs. During the part of the Collector Base with the pipes, there was one moment where I threw them at him 3 times and he still keep using his powers.

Instead it ended up being a video of Flashbang working marvelously against him.

Finished it on Insanity earlier today. The Claymore Soldier is great for it. :)

Congrats on finishing.  Claymore soldier is pretty good.  Not lame like Mattock or Widow based soldiers. ;)

I did 3 Claymore Soldier profiles and wasn't bored once. The Revenant may be a good gun but I don't have any fond memories of that playthrough. :?
