dragon age origins- my view and thoughts

i bought this game on the 26th and completed the final quest yesterday(29th). it took me around 30 hours or just under on normal difficulty.
my first thought when i began the game was 'is this it..........' i found it quite different to oblivion and there is no real tutorial.
however i carried on and loved it, this game is 99% brilliant with only the beginning letting it down because it just throws you straight into it.
however as i said the rest is incredible, the voice acting, cutscenes and general story is fantastic and the best ive ever seen in a game. towards the end of the game il admit i was actually upset that it had ended and the characters are portrayed so well its difficult to not feel for them and in a way feel that you know them.
the combat and tactics system i loved, it had the strategy and setup of a real time strategy game except it was an rpg. best of both.
so i'd give this game a 9.5/10.
however there are flaws, i dont know why but i find it difficult to re-do this game, im currently starting a new origin story but it feels almost a waste.
im used to the oblivion style and i was quite into role playing within the game(being a merchant/assassin/bandit etc), it had so much freedom that you could literally do anything at anytime in that game, there were hundreds of quests and a full play through would easily be 60-80 hours(all quests) even then you wouldn't have everything done and there are expansions.i would say i spent way too much time on that game probably 300 hours at the least.
this game in contrast seems very linear, i have all the downloadable content but i feel compared to oblivion there is little bang for your buck so to say, you get very little and the downloadable content perhaps adds an hour or 2 max with some cool characters.
theres also very limited roleplaying in this game, for example in oblivion i could buy myself a house, and roleplay a rich merchent or assassin or anything really, i could kill anyone and interact with everyone the options were literally limitless. i could ignore every quest and still be the richest guy around and the highest level.
on here its the main story line, you cannot purchase property and there is very little to do outside of the quests, you can't even kill people, your skills level via xp so you must kill generally for xp and to kill you need to do the quests.
the main problem i find is i can't carry on after the game is completed, WHY NOT? thats the only problem i have with this game why does it have to end? im not asking for an enormous sandbox, open environment but surely its not too hard just to allow you to keep playing after the main quest is complete, why can't you carry on from where you left? rebuild the greywardens, help the circle f magi, travel with leliana(or whoever you may have picked)
it just seems to me that i go through all of the effort for nothing, it just ends.

1) I would say that Oblivion isn't even the best "sandbox" RPG in the Elder Scrolls series. Morrowind trumps it on every level. Sure, you can buy a house in Oblivion. But really, there's no real "Role-playing" in Oblivion because no matter what you want to do, at the end of the day you have to be a certain type of character to beat the game. And unless you studiously avoid a certain city and never...ever...start the main quest, you're forced into dealing with those issues. Really, to me Oblivion is a poor excuse for an RPG. What you do really makes little difference. Morrowind is, to me, a far better 'sandbox-style' RPG than Oblivion. And is superior in every aspect but graphics.
2) The game play mechanics in Oblivion are just hideous. Armor breaks down after 2-3 encounters in one dungeon. So you HAVE to carry 2-3 suits or be a master armorer. Sure, there was armor fatigue in Morrowind, but it was much more gradual and realistic. The way enchantments are handled in Oblivion is also broken and grossly inferior to Morrowind. I had to d/l a half-dozen mods just to make Oblivion PLAYABLE. And then there's the sight of bandits in full Daedric Armor hitting you up for 100gp.
3) DA is advertised as a story-based game. There's side quests (lots of them). But the game is about the story. I think it may be a 'bit' too linear, but it's easy to get involved in lots of wandering. As far as the ending goes, it's hard not to answer that without them other than to say for rather obvious reasons it seems like a rational place to say 'the end' of the story.
4) If you want more gameplay, get involved in the modding process. Make a module revolving around the storylines that remain. You'd have to pick the ending you like, which is another problem with your 'why can't you just wander after' point.
I have my qualms with elements of DA, and I'd give it an A- or B+, but Oblivion to me is a C-/D+ game. Quite possibly the WORST entry in its own series.

the armour thing was annoying as it almost forced you to pick armorer, however i was usually a mage character and didn't use armor. i agree the bandits having glass armour and deadric weapons was very unrealistic.
however oblivion was pure freedom in a game, i'd get 50-60 hours done before i even touched the main questline, id often be over level 40 before the 1st quest.
the skills were alot better too along with the alchemy, levelled up by actually using them. i loved oblivion.
i should have mentioned that i play on ps3 so i don't do modding.
i guess my only real problem with DA is that its too linear, why can't i rebuild my fort(if im a nobleman), purchase land and have some more options for roleplaying. the story ending i have no problem with, it said i defeated the demon and went travelling with leliana, if i'd have died i'd understand the game ending but i lived, so why can't the game just allow me to continue and do sidequests and just wonder around? why does it have to just stop despite me surviving, its such a great game its quite disapointing that it just ends and chucks you onto the main menu

I spent over 400 hours on Oblivion. Multiple plays with different mods installed made it enough different. Nonetheless, I only "finished" the main plot 2 times -- the main plot was unneeded to have fun.
I've spent over 80 hours on DA and am not yet finished. I am trying to do everything and I am slow as I sneak and kill from a distance which takes time.
The beginning was great fun. If I had finished inside of 40 hours, I would have been fine. And, I credit Bioware for a good 40 hour game. I got my money's worth. However, DA is not a game that can keep my interest, apparently. Its because of the lack of attention to detail and excessive "filler". Just gets to be "same old same old" after a while -- like other Bioware games.
