It happens the first part of the assault on Denerim where you control only your character and have all your previous party members running around to kill Darkspawn.

Dragon Age wiki says you are ment to go talk to Riordan to continue into the next area, but for me he only shouts 'Press forward!'. All darkspawn in the area are dead (trust me, I walked around everywhere for about 15 minutes) and all previous party members are standing in the area where the last spawn was.
