Bought the mac version the other day. Trying to get a couple mods to work, none seem to work thus far since I can't find the daupdater that mods need to install.

Also how are patches going to be handled for MAC? How do I know what version I am running?

What about the tool set? Is that coming over?

According to the Direct to Drive, which states this for the mac version:
"This version of Dragon Age: Origins is compatible with universal patches and the mod toolset from BioWare."

I share that interest. At least for me, now downloadable content is available (except for the stuff that came with the game).

For instance, this means no access to Return to Ostagar or similar addons.

Installing .dazip mods on a Mac.Most of the mods for Dragon Age consist of files that you just put in the correct place in Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age. The mod will include a readme that tells you where the files go. But some mods are meant to be installed with daupdater, these end in .dazip. Here are instructions for installing them manually.
All of the paths in here start in Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age, or the mod folder.
1) Change .dazip to .zip and open the file. This will make a folder, open that.
2) Open the mod/Manifest.xml file, either with what OSX chooses or textedit.
3) Select everything starting with the line that starts with , select all of that line. Copy.
4) Duplicate the AddIns.xml file in the Dragon Age/Settings folder as a backup. Open the AddIns.xml file in Settings. Scroll to the bottom and paste just before the last line.
5) At the start of where you pasted there should be a line with
</AddInItem>, then the next line starting with <AddInItem
6) At
the end there should be a line with </AddInItem>, then another
line with </AddInsList>
7) Save the file.
8) Open the Contents folder in the mod folder. Put the folder in mod/addins into the Dragon Age/AddIns folder. Put the files in the mod/packages folder where it belongs. In the mod I was testing on I had to move the file mod/packages/core/data/qmt_package.erf to Dragon Age/packages/core/data. This part might always consist of moving just this one file, the three mods that I looked at all were this way.
9) Fire up Dragon Age and go to Downloadable Content to see if it worked.

Thanks, that worked for the mod I tried. Got a little confused though, incase someone else got confused regarding the manifest file step, copy over from the <AddInItem UID="MOD NAME" line down to the </AddInItem> line into the Addins file.

The cider wrapper is already made, don't see why they can't just through the toolset in there?......

The above info has been a great help. Thanks so much!

I will not buy DAO 2 until this DAO toolkit is available for Mac.

According to Electronic Arts Help Chat, they disavow any affiliation to any toolkit.

I've just released a utility that automates the installation of dazip mods for you. It can also uninstall them (this is limited to mods that it installed in the first place - it will not work with mods installed manually).
You can get it here:

I hope that's useful.

I don't quite get "step 3"... what do you mean with "Select everything starting with the line that starts with , select all of that line. Copy." What do we copy exactly?

And Kandahr,
Thanks a lot for the app! I downloaded the "WRK_RESPEC_MOD_16.dazip" mod to change the spec of my character, but I can't seem to find a way to install it. Your app seemed like incredibly handy, but when I start the app I can't seem to install the respec-mod. How do you install this addon with your app, and will it work properly (after it's enabled) in DAO?

Thanks a lot for the info :)

DA Mod Wrangler saved my life. The link Kandahr shared is broken, however. If you search of Google, it will still come up with links for it though.

Very helpful! :)

1. You are in the WRONG forum. This is for PC X86 versions in here.

Mac versions were covered elsewhere when anyone was still buying any:

2. When a thread is two years old, Tuna Mornay, it belongs DEAD in its grave. Necomancy is not only evil, it's undesireable.

1.  If this thread was put in this forum (where most mod users dwell) two years ago, you can hardly blame someone for simply replying to it.

2.  Perhaps, but necro'ing old threads is not an explicit violation of the site rules.  And since usership is very low here now, as you are so fond of pointing out, it is more likely to occur.  Therefore, while we should continue to encourage people to create new posts for tech support issues, this is not something that requires admonition.  If someone wants to confirm that a fix presented in an old thread works, or still works, more power to them.

Thanks Kandahr :). I hope Bioware thanks you to. You just made me buy the Mac version of Dragon Age. (I have it on PC/Xbox360)
I am going to replay the greatest game of all time on a Retina mac :)
