I will NOT have my beloved Unreal Tournament and my beloved Quake 3 Arena compared to those shoddy console-kiddy shooters. I will not stand for this!

There are only 2 REAL multiplayer FPS games, and those are UT and Quake. There are no other games that even come close to matching the speed, the ferocity, the intensity and the sheer ridiculousness of UT and Quake.

You forgot Halo, ya know, the most well known, and BEST FPS Multiplayer. Which was created by Bungie? (Which 343 is trying to ruin)

Stating opinions as fact is bad, mmkay? Though im not sure if Yaj is just being sarcastic or if he truly likes Halo (I like it, but I wouldnt call it the best).

P.S. to Annon, Tribes says hello.

Aim Assist: Why Was It Added and When Will It Be Removed?

Because you can't aim, and it will be removed when you learn to aim.

.... sorry, I mean you did set that up like perfectly. But I dunno, aiming is defiantly harder for me with thumbsticks whenerver I play a console shooter...

It takes practice and patience. You think it's bad now, imagine how we handled it using a D-Pad in the olden times. They didn't have aim assist back then, and for games that did have it, it was a hindrance for the most part.

We managed then, and we'll manage in the future.

All the people who actually matter shut the damned thing off when it was even an option. I've said it before, I'll say it again. No game I review will score above a 75% on controls unless it features customizable controls, the ability to switch off mentally challenged aiming auto-aim, and sensativity controls. To not have these is inexcusable laziness and has no logical defense, no matter what Devs say.

It's 2012. There is no excuse.

And you're telling them to learn to aim?
Headshots are/never were difficult to achieve.
This is coming from other games W/O aim assist. headshots all day long in Halo, Unreal, etc, etc.

i can shut off aim assist on everything else, it should be as common an option as reversing y axis..

if you couldnt reverse y axis i wouldnt even play.

a developer in game informer once called gamers like me ( who reverse y axis) " broken"

Get rid of Auto-Aim, and also let us turn up our camera sensitivity higher (the current three options are some kind of bad joke).

PC games offer better aim controls while console games offer better movement controls. This has been my experience thus far.

Tell that to my Logitech G13 keypad/thumbstick combination.

I am also not a fan. Wish this was a toggle option in a menu at the least.

I guess I'm broken too. For me it goes back to the first Star Fox game, I inverted the Y-Axis in that and I've done it ever since, far too ingrained to possibly reverse without monumental (and pointless) effort.

Djspectre is right about the mouse being more acurate and allowing a greater level of response. PC games offer better aim controls while console games offer better movement controls. This has been my experience thus far.

Perhaps in some games, though Mass Effect 3 MP that is not true at all... PC has -far- better movement controlls than consoles. PC can turn themselves out of stunlock, make sharp turns while running, and even run with the objective far easier.

As for aiming controls.. To each their own in that case, but aim assist is just a major pain. Anyone that says you can't aim without aim assist on consoles hasn't played many shooters. [which isn't a bad thing or an insult.]

Need an OFFICIAL petition to have the option to turn it on/off.

Does a thread become official by calling it "official" in its title lol?

I'd very much like to hear from the developers on this one. I keep hearing people complain about targeting on the console, yet the last substantial thread I can find on the subject is from 3 months ago:

http://social.biowar.../index/13424388

This is the only thread I found that has over 1 page of discussion. Let's not have this fizzle again.

Maybe because you don't use a mouse to play

That doesn't change the fact that some people such as myself that play on console, don't want or need aim assist.

The option to to turn it off completely would be great.

Will do, or I'll try to keep it going until we hear from developers. My favorite class is Infiltrator, but auto-aim holds the class back from greatness on console, at least when sniper rifles are involved. Lucky shotgun users that don't have to deal with this issue...

I'm on Xbox and I turn aim assist off if I can in a game. I seem to do better when I get to set the shot up not the computer. But that's me

Has anyone felt like it's gotten worse since the patch/DLC?

Yes esp.on sniper rifles, bad on all scope weapons, but for some reason I feel it's worse on sniper rifles, maybe because the greater zoom distance=a more dramatic changeImage IPB

It should be a toggle option. Available to those who want it, able to turn it off, for those who don't.

Same here, I feel like they have been out to get us infiltrators for a while now, as my favorite character QFI with widow or javelin but I think I might have to respec her for shotguns until they give us back 40% SR damage and get rid of aim assist.

And that didn't have aim assist. You had to manually aim that crosshair.

EDIT: with ONE STICK. In the snow. Uphill. Both ways.

There was aim assist in that grandaddy of a game, but I don't remember it ever being a drawback, possibly because you didn't have to worry about headshots in multiplayer.

Aim assist only happened at basically point-blank range in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. It also could be switched off in both, as well as the latter's remake.
