Aim assist only happened at basically point-blank range in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. It also could be switched off in both, as well as the latter's remake.

Let's not talk about that sad remake... But seriously, if it could be turned off in those games, why can't we do it in ME3?

Bump, since BioWare has been responding to some related threads.

I understand that it's in some games to help those that need it.
But what happened to giving us the on/off option.
In ME calling it an 'assist' is being kind =/

Maybe because you don't use a mouse to play

That doesn't mean we need it. Aim assistance in ME3 comes in two flavors.

1. Does not work 90% of the time

2. Causes you to turn 180 and auto-target a swarmer behind you when you're trying to line up a Claymore blast on the Banshee coming to make you its ****.

It's more than annoying: it's an active hindrance.

My personal favorite was the time i tried to kill that pyro with a javelin when he was at the bottom of the stairs outside on white.....only for the zoom to aim at the prime sticking over the wall by the extraction.....assist my bungie hole that thing should auto target heads with the targeting vi at least then it would not be as big of a hindrance....except it loves to look at swarmers.....

What's worse is that I keep aiming Collector Swarms other than the trooper behind it.

I've been complaining about this since I joined! It's one of the reasons I stopped playing in the first place... Do you have any idea how many times I've been killed by auto aim. *Zooms in on a Banshee with one bar of health left, two feet away* *Scope decided to zoom in on a Cannibal in the background* *Get's sync killed* "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF"

I feel that! I'm surprised that this thread isn't getting more response; surely most console players that scope run into issues.

Aiming with a mouse is easier, even with dual analog sticks, it's nearly impossible to aim properly without aim-assist.

This limitation is also why the rise of 'slow' FPS games such as call of duty (with the aim-down-the-barrel mechanic) became so popular: Consoles couldn't do what Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 needed in the way of fast run-and-gun.

With there being more console players than PC players (a guess), thus gave rise to aim-assist mechanic so that console games could be more fast paced and pc-like.

Woah. Yes, they "attempted" to make shooters faster paced. Yes, its pretty much impossible to aim without auto-assist on analogue sticks. But no.....

NO

NO

I will NOT have my beloved Unreal Tournament and my beloved Quake 3 Arena compared to those shoddy console-kiddy shooters. I will not stand for this!

There are only 2 REAL multiplayer FPS games, and those are UT and Quake. There are no other games that even come close to matching the speed, the ferocity, the intensity and the sheer ridiculousness of UT and Quake.

I think i love you

Much as I've hated it before the patch...after the patch it seems to be even MORE erratic and unreliable. trying to hit ANYTHING with my Indra the other night simply ended in me hitting a LOT of NOTHING.....and not being able to control which empty air space it was locking on to.

Very weird and extremely useless. I always cut it off on games that offer an option ( same with music...) unless I'm playing for fun. ME3's is one of the worst I've ever seen on a 360

Agreed. It's quite difficult to scope in on individual enemies at times because of it. Hopefully it will have a toggle option after the next patch.

I would like to see the option to remove it. Knowing myself, I'll probably put it back on whenever using a non-scoped weapon. I do agree that consoles do have some inherent issues compared to mice when it comes to aiming. But, I think anyone who has ever played any console shooter knows, Auto-Aim on scopes its not only stupid, but annoying. When it does work perfectly: it makes the game stupid easy. When it doesn't work perfectly: it ruins a good shot (at least some of the times). Often times when I'm being swarmed by dragoons, I know I can headshot them and be on my merry way with my Black Widow, but....well....the game decides that isn't happening and chooses to auto aim at the guardian that is too far to even shoot at me at the moment....

Has anyone felt like it's gotten worse since the patch/DLC?

I THOUGHT something had changed!! Honestly did not notice it before the patch, but now when I use my raptor on something it auto aims. This is cheating! It shouldn’t even be a toggle on/off mechanic, because it’d skew the scores. We don’t need auto aim!

Small anti-grav trays filled w/warp-injected neuro-boric acid, that explode on swarmer contact initially dealing 250 dps..add an extra cyclonic armor bonus  to survive 'roach-motel gate'  and kill multiple swarmers with each pack

Costs a mere  20,000 credits or 1200MS points at the STORE...B)

Aim Assist: Why Was It Added and When Will It Be Removed?

Because you can't aim, and it will be removed when you learn to aim.

.... sorry, I mean you did set that up like perfectly. But I dunno, aiming is defiantly harder for me with thumbsticks whenerver I play a console shooter...

same thing happened when your forefather's climb down from the trees

Oh, it was there before the patch. And it's not cheating because it actually skews the scores in the negative direction! Aim assist happens when you scope, and instead of zooming in where you had aimed you'll often zoom in on another enemy. It's ridiculous. I'd like to know if BioWare can remove this feature and if there are any plans to do so.

Wow you guys have it bad, I honestly barely even notice it unless an enemy is slow walking across my field of view like a foot in front of me even then it never affects my aiming.

Yep. It makes guns like the Javelin and Window a chore to use. I realize it takes skill to effectively wield one shot weapons, but that skill should come from making headshots, not from fighting with aim assist while under cloak and carrying a heavy weapon that will lower your cooldown time when you adjust. Terrible.

Because it would be much harder to aim if you didn't have it.

I know you might have trouble believing that but oh well. Nearly every console FPS has aim assist.

The moral of this story is: use a proper form of control, AKA keyboard and mouse.

I completely agree, the auto-aim seriously detracts from my playing experience, and it's extraordinarily frustrating to have to zoom back out to readjust my aim because auto-aim decides that it knows what I want to shoot at more than I do. I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO SHOOT AT! :( Auto-aim has ruined my life, caused me to go bankrupt, and has caused three of my relatives to die at an early age from heart failure. Please, please, please get rid of auto-aim or give us the option to turn it off.

That's not particularly helpful. I just found another old thread that has some useful (if sometimes inaccurate) info.

It's the snap-to-target that's killing me. If "aim assist" in some form is necessary, that's fine. What I have a huge problem with is that when I scope with a sniper rifle, I am often directed to a completely different enemy. What is up with that? Can BioWare comment on this? Can they remove or greatly tone down the snap-to-target stuff that's going on on console? Or at least XBox, since that's the system I play on? I hear PS3 players have the same issue.
