Maybe because you don't use a mouse to play
Don't need it. It's like the one in call of duty, your aim "pops" in the closest target near center screen. You can play fine without it. It's annoying at times, targeting some swarmers.

All I got to say to this little bit is,
Not a single consule player who is experienced with any kind of shooter would struggle with aim without it. If you are, then shooters aren't for you. The massive problem with this games "Auto aim" is it re-targets something else for you. I have one enemy's head lined up, I aim down the scope and now I am aiming at something completley different.

Hi Derek,
I was wondering if you can comment on the use of aim assist/snap-to-target on consoles. Why was this implemented and is there a way to remove it or tone it down? It's extremely frustrating to play as a sniper and constantly be directed to an enemy that you weren't originally pointing at when you scope, and it makes headshots with heavy weapons unbearable if you try to redirect your aim while under cloak (since your cooldown time will be high).
This was a debate issue during development and it was finally decided to keep it since MP does not have a time slow feature during sniping (we did try that too). In order to make sniping more viable we had to keep a snap-to-target feature. This was to help the majority of players. The few really good snipers kind of had to bite the bullet on that one. No pun intended.
I appreciate finally receiving a response, so thank you, Derek. But now I'm curious; did you consider adding snap-to-target as a toggled option? Would it ruin sniping somehow even for the decent snipers if they could turn it off?

PC master race still has an easier time aiming though.

I certainly won't debate that, but I'd like to understand why we weren't given the option to turn snap-to-target off...

Operation Flashpoint had this option, it was awesome but made switching back to Halo a pain in the arse.

Did Halo feel clunky after?

Wrong. There is nothing inherently impossible with aiming with a controller.djspectre wrote...
Aiming with a mouse is easier, even with dual analog sticks, it's nearly impossible to aim properly without aim-assist.
This limitation is also why the rise of 'slow' FPS games such as call of duty (with the aim-down-the-barrel mechanic) became so popular: Consoles couldn't do what Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 needed in the way of fast run-and-gun.
With there being more console players than PC players (a guess), thus gave rise to aim-assist mechanic so that console games could be more fast paced and pc-like.
When I have the reticle directly over the target's head, I've already done the aiming part. What 'aim assist' does is it moves where I am already focused to somewhere else. Either a swarmer, or something behind cover, or a threatening part of the empty sky. It is not in any way a help, or an aid, or a benefit.
Zoom where I am pointing. I am pointing at the thing I want to zoom on. Do not zoom where I am not pointing.

Exactly. Does anyone know why this wasn't added as a console game option rather than as a permanently detracting game feature?

It made it impossible to aim, not so much clunky as trying to drag a screaming child through a shop.

If I'm mistaken, then, too bad.
Aim assit was better in ME1, where it simply expanded the hitbox of enemies.

There are only 2 REAL multiplayer FPS games, and those are UT and Quake. There are no other games that even come close to matching the speed, the ferocity, the intensity and the sheer ridiculousness of UT and Quake.

Also to those of you calling for no aim assist on consoles: Go onto Halo and try and shoot your team-mates. Now try shooting enemies. Notice the difference?

I'm calling for an option to turn off snap-to-target. "Aim assist" seems so vague, even though that's what I was originally calling the issue. What kinds of aim assist are there? Derek mentioned a time slow feature when sniping, and there's the annoying snap-to-target. He admits that good snipers had to "bite the bullet" on that feature, which implies that players can get good without the snap-to-target type of aim assist. Why was it made a feature, then, rather than an option?

I could add my dislike for the Magic A-Button, when I desperately need to run away, I'm snapping to ever single piece of cover instead of bolting down the wide open hallway.
