Aiming with a mouse is easier, even with dual analog sticks, it's nearly impossible to aim properly without aim-assist.

This limitation is also why the rise of 'slow' FPS games such as call of duty (with the aim-down-the-barrel mechanic) became so popular: Consoles couldn't do what Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 needed in the way of fast run-and-gun.

With there being more console players than PC players (a guess), thus gave rise to aim-assist mechanic so that console games could be more fast paced and pc-like.

The issue is the snap-to-target type of aim assist, not so much the standard 'sticky aim' aim assist. The former does not 'make the game faster', at least not in a horde mode style, target rich environment where different targets have much different priority levels.

It actually doesn't bug me too much. Although yes, there are a few times every match where I'll line up a shot and then scope and end up targeting something completely different.

Yeah, and it sucks. We just need to keep at it, make the topic so huge that they can't ignore it.

Well Derek made a comment in a Q&A thread, but he didn't address why the devs chose snap-to-target as a feature rather than an option. It's true that I've never seen a developer reply directly to a thread about this.

+1 for having an option to turn autoaim on/off. It's really frustrating on Snipers.

Agreed.
doesn't make a difference most of the time but its really disorienting when trying to snipe and the auto aim picks another target
happens a lot with cloaked phantoms, autoaim just ignores them and picks another target even if you're aiming right at them

Yes, I'm quite sick of being killed by this! I mean, come on Bioware! You're fixing everything, why not this?

This doesn't address the OPs point: that players should be able to choose whether or not to use aim-assist.
There is really no reason for a toggle, other games have it. This topic has come up quite a bit here and to my knowledge has never been commented on by the developers, even to say "we are not changing this"

I haven't seen any such comments either, but I hope this thread will get word about the issue out to pc players (as well as console players who have been confused as to what's going on when they snipe) and then we'll have additional support... hopefully more support than just saying "switch to pc."

How do you make a petition? I'd love to get one started.

What exactly do you mean by that? Do you just want to see "petition" in the thread title? I'm not sure that's going to get the developers to look at the thread and comment on the possibility of adding a snap-to-target option. I feel like this thread is already a petition of sorts since I'm requesting more information regarding snap-to-target and I'm trying to get others to "sign on" by saying how they feel about the feature.

I don't know many snipers that aren't bothered by the snap-to-target system on consoles. I heard it wasn't in the demo.

If there was an option to turn it on/off I'd be all for it. It's frustrating as hell for snipers and other single shot weapons when you line up your crosshair on a targer only for you to scope in and you're aiming at the sky or 90 degrees to the left or right.

For automatic weapons I have no problem with it so yeah a toggle feature would be great

You know, I never really noticed much of a problem with it before (yeah it was annoying when it snaps to the middle of the enemy, but one flick up and BOOM headshot you kind of get used to it), but ever since the update/patch/whatever I've noticed it has become a lot worse. Often I'll scope in on an enemy only to have the scope show up to the left/right of the enemy, not just a little off but completely out of the frame. Wouldn't mind having it as a toggle option (not unlike my inverted y-axis woop woop)

panning in-scope is already far too slow on the controller, without some auto-aim nobody would hit anything, however the amount of times i have lined up a shot perfectly only to scope in to something completely different is mind-boggling. I'd certainly advocate toning it all down and speeding up panning.

Yes, it feels like my character prioritizes enemies that have full health and shields/barriers and completely ignores the almost dead ones.

Something could use an adjustment, for sure.

I agree, consoles need better sensitivity options and the ability to toggle the auto-aim feature in this game. I don't know about you guys but I think theres a problem when hipfiring a sniper rifle is more accurate than fighting with the game's auto aim.
