I'll give this a bump. The aim assist can make sniping a pain in the ass.

I don't really mind the aim assist I took advantage of it when I was using the harrier against the phantoms when they keep dodging, it was useful I saved a lot of PUGs from getting sync killed from phantoms.

Aim assist is usually beneficial whenever you don't aim in with a sniper. Even if it jumps to another target you can at least see around, unlike with a sniper's scope. The pain the aim assist brings sometimes is usually non-existent with automatic weapons anyway.

OMG, you're a BSN poster? I just played with you today! I know I did (you're in my recent players), but I forgot which match we played. IIRC, we played Reaper/Jade/Gold. I died constantly as a G.I. Javelin for the first few waves due to snap zooming on everything that wasn't the Marauder shooting at me. It's actually funny that you'd post here.

I also remember you, although I don't remember the faction/map, the scoreboard, the other players or even what I played, eh. Why would you find it funny I'm posting here though?

Just failed Platinum because aim assist wants me to waste Harrier bullets on Husks rather than the more important, larger Brute to the right of him.

Game loves to auto-focus me on the Atlas on the other side of the map fighting someone else instead of the Phantom 3 steps away from me. Would love an option to turn this off.

The stupid thing always seems to priorities Swarmers and other nonsense when I'm trying to take out a genuine threat. I appreciate it's importance in online play but it does need to be toggled, as me and it never want to shoot the same thing.

Aiming with a mouse is easier, even with dual analog sticks, it's nearly impossible to aim properly without aim-assist.

This limitation is also why the rise of 'slow' FPS games such as call of duty (with the aim-down-the-barrel mechanic) became so popular: Consoles couldn't do what Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 needed in the way of fast run-and-gun.

With there being more console players than PC players (a guess), thus gave rise to aim-assist mechanic so that console games could be more fast paced and pc-like.

Woah. Yes, they "attempted" to make shooters faster paced. Yes, its pretty much impossible to aim without auto-assist on analogue sticks. But no.....

NO

NO

I will NOT have my beloved Unreal Tournament and my beloved Quake 3 Arena compared to those shoddy console-kiddy shooters. I will not stand for this!

There are only 2 REAL multiplayer FPS games, and those are UT and Quake. There are no other games that even come close to matching the speed, the ferocity, the intensity and the sheer ridiculousness of UT and Quake.

You forgot Halo, ya know, the most well known, and BEST FPS Multiplayer. Which was created by Bungie? (Which 343 is trying to ruin)

Please state your opinion as an opinion. Not a fact. 'Kay, thanks. Image IPB

Auto-aim is f@cking infuriating. It sucked in ME2 and it sucks now. Although it seemed worse in ME2.

Atuo aim is the reason I don't use snipers very often.Nothing worse then aiming at the biggest threat in front of you then you zoom in and auto aim targets that swarmer way at the back of the map. thanks.

I read an article about the algorithms Halo's aim assist uses and it sounds a lot better (PS3 player here, so I don't know from playing). It talked about a weaker target attraction that sped up reticule placement when you scan toward and enemy, and slowed down reticule movement moving away from an enemy, so it wasn't this hard snap like we have on ME3. Sounded a lot better, maybe Halo player can comment.

I remember trying to play Red Dead multiplayer in the areas with no aim assist at all. People would literally stand five feet from each other for ten minutes trying to hit each other with their rifles... A lot of people don't realize how difficult aiming with a thumbstick is without any aim assist. I agree that there should be an option to turn off the snap to target garbage that happens when you scope in, though.... Dem swarmers.

Aiming at people and aiming at the game's AI are two different things. An AI has predictable patterns. You can't say the same about people though.
