Getting wary of "Lone Wolves"

I've only been in games with a handful of people with the Lone Wolf banner... but good grief.

First time I thought, "Ah hah, Lone Wolf, someone who knows what they're doing - good oh" ... now I'm beginning to suspect Lone Wolf means "I am going to Rambo it, fall over and get stomped on before the team can get to me and then, when I fail to top the scoreboard, quit as soon as the match is over".

Recently I've pretty much just been playing Krogan - I'll admit it, running around going MMMWWRRAAAWWWWWW is probably my favourite thing in the game at the moment. So I'm in a U/U/G lobby as a Kroldier and a Lone Wolf joins playing as a GI, turns out to be Cerberus/Jade ... and I can't remember the last time I've had to pick someone up so many times.

He wasn't bad at outputting damage and clocking up points (he was a GI after all) but he just sat on "Suicide Bridge" and kept getting killed... he did get a decent level of points to be fair, about 80k, second on the scoreboard.

Next game he stuck with it, I switched to Krentinel, he switched to Turian Ghost... Vancouver/Reapers; I swear he only made it to the end of about 2 rounds without getting either synch-killed or stomped on by a Marauder... he finished third on the scoreboard. As soon as we complete the mission, he quits.

Am I just having bad luck with "Lone Wolves" or is it really a "Warning: suicidal Rambo" flag?

I think the worst thing was seeing a level 20 Turian infiltrator with Cerb Harrier at X just darting around a silver game killing EVERYTHING and then not expecting everyone in the game to get pissed off.

Don't understand people like that as I've told my friends soon as I get the Turian ghost I'm solo'ing gold non-stop

I don't have the lone wolf banner, but i usually leave a lobby after one match or so. I really only want to play a game or two anyway when I get on, and the lobbies kind of have revolving doors when it comes to pugs anyway.

In my experience, Lone Wolves have been solid to good players. Matter of fact, anyone with a banner has been, at the very least, decent so far

You don't have a turian ghost and you think you'll solo gold when you get one?  LOL

That one in particular yeah, stuck in the mind as that was the last couple of matches I had before bed last night - but the few "Lone Wolves" I've played with have all seemed to have suicidal tendencies.

Maybe I'm just noticing them more because the banner drew my attention to their names in the first place, maybe not?

Not in my experience. I just had a match where I wanted to level my Infiltrators up after a promotion (so I played U/U/S), and started the match since no one came. Close to the end of the first wave, some people came.

At the third wave, a Krogan just darted into the enemy when we had a hacking objective and proceeded to die and let himself get stomped.
After the whole rest of the team got somehow overwhelmed, I decided to not bother using my medigel as a level 1 SI and then found out said guy that died and had himself executed was such a Lone Wolf dude.

Utter fail, getting himself killed on Silver as a Krogan.

So you based this on one player or did it happen with other Lone Wolfs as well?
I would also like to point out that solo has different settings and different dynamic. When you play with squad, you usually have enemies approaching you from multiple sides or spread across much larger area, whereas in solo you can pretty much control the flow as everything follows you. You are much more in control. You also have situations that won´t happen during solo, like going to dangerous spot to pick up fallen squadmate.

Because BW just made this game more of a grind. Not enough mooks at higher levels.

This. Its rare for me stick around in a lobby for multiple matches in a row. I tend to want to take a break, buy a pack, promoto a character, check my challenge points etc.

Lol, that's a lot of the people I find in random games, Loner or not, they seem to have those same tendencies. But yes the banner is definitely drawing more attention to them. If I see that banner I would expect them to hold their own pretty good.

The only other banners I've seen in-game so far (IIRC) have been Earth Mastery (once), Biotic God (once), Reaper Mastery (once) and Mathmagician (twice including myself)... maybe because it's the fastest challenge to complete, I see more Lone Wolves than anything else.

The best player I've seen with a banner so far was the guy using the Reaper Mastery banner.

"Lone wolf" is the only challenge that requires patience, all other challenges can be achieved by brute force, grinding, so : no "Warning: suicidal Rambo" is the only thing that will even get you killed in Bronze solo. You are quite overinterpreting things biased on a handfull of occasions. Not a good thing imo.

If you solo a bit, you would know the difference between normal play and soloing. When you solo, you can count on everything on the map going after you. This lets you control the flow of the battle. In normal play, the spawn is pulled in 4 directions and if one guy drops, those targetting the dropped character will immediately retarget, which can cause problems for someone who does not factor that into account. This together with lag on non-host (all solos are host) can cause problems. The guy could be bad or he could have the wrong mindset at the start (solo mindset rather than pug mindset)

I've played with one Lone Wolfer (actually a forum member here), as I've played with them before. So I knew everything was good.

But I noticed, quite a few people do not like having Lone Wolves int he lobby. They either kick them or leave themselves. Why? I have no idea, but I have seen it. It just seems that banner puts people off of wanting to play with that particular person.

I played a cerberus / jade yeaterday as a claymore GI, dont have the banner though.

But strange for an supposedly experienced player to hang around the LZ.

It's all the Lone Wolves I've played with, which is hardly a significant sample size admittedly as it's something like 4 - the one in the example was the most recent (and worst) so stuck in my mind. Normally they're not that bad, but they have all seemed to have the tendency to not play as well as they seem to think they're capable of... so they run away from the team and get executed more often than most.

Or maybe it just seems that way to me as I've noticed them in the lobby because they've got the banner... (if they didn't have the banner they might be just as suicidal but I might not have registered the name perhaps).

I'm not putting my lone wolf banner back up until I've soloed gold reapers. And I suppose the new cerbies.

Last and only gold reaper attempt ended when a banshee grabbed me in wave 7. I felt it was under control - hadn't died at that point. I should have kept moving, but wanted to take one last shot... stupid stupid stupid.

Anyway kroguard solo gold geth still very doable and easy for lone wolf achievement. A little annoying now with geth bombers adding to stunlock.

Yeah, this has happened to me a couple of times.

The most recent one was earlier today. Joined a random match and it was Firebase Ghost (hazard) against Collectors on Silver. It was round 2 and there were two other people, one a Turian Havoc and the other a Human Male Adept. I take it they knew each other as they were both chatting away.

Anyway, I pretty much carried them through wavs 5, 6 and 9 as they both died. They helped me a couple of times by telling me if something was creeping up on me (looking at you, Possessed Abomination) but when the match ended and we got back into the lobby, one of them kicked me and then the other one kicked me.

Stuff like that doesn't bother me as it's easy to find another game. I just wish people would tell you why or at least say "thanks" before giving me the boot..
