Or it could be that they're playing totally unfamiliar characters, trying to do challenges.
I played the N7 Demolisher for the first time yesterday, and I was droping left, right and center because I was having so much fun camping my pylon and grenade spamming... Which of course got me killed more often than not.

Bingo. Having a lone wolf banner just means player is aware of challenges and is actively pursuing them. Once I got my banner I started working towards more banners with downright crappy weapons. My first couple matches post banner were with an eviscerator and an arc pistol.

.......I did not play well.

A banner is no protection from latency. Or stupidity either, but not the point I was trying to make.

I rarely top the scoreboards, but I've got the Lone Wolf banner. I have more revival medals than I have melee medals, by far. I played a silver while levelling a soldier earlier today, every one wiped wave 10 trying a pizza on Vancouver Geth, so I ended up doing two with a fricking Destroyer. We ended with full extraction, and the host quit immediately after the game. I could infer that he ragequit because he thought the team sucked, but then, two of the team didn't even pop a gel. Or I could just call him an **** and get on with my life, and not make any inferences about hosts in general. Get that you're wondering if your experience is representative of people with a particular banner, but I could equally argue that the banner comes with the expectation of being carried if things go wrong.

Rambling messy post. Meh. Need to sleep. But we ain't all bad. I've spent games playing the Volus characters and spent the entire time shield charging and ressing.

I have the banner because it was the easiest one to get. I'm not really sure it sends the right message to a lobby, though. I'm absolutely a team player and would be horrified if people assumed that "Lone Wolf" meant I was going to charge off and get killed all game.

Actually most of my deaths in public games are a direct result of reviving other players who ran off and got killed.

As a Lone Wolf, I will admit one thing:

On Bronze and Silver, I will just mess around doing my own thing because whenever I am going on these levels, I am levelling a new character and I am mostly interested in just getting the feel of a gun or a class or a talent setup, so I press myself and when you're a low level with no fitness.... eh, stuff happens. I learn from it and, when things get too hairy, I get up and clear the wave alone if need be.

On Gold and above, I would behave and be a teamplayer. Unless I'm a Kroguard. Who needs a team when you're an advancing army? o_O

LoneWolf gives you average (high) level, and then there's distribution around that.

Btw, overheard in gamechat recently you can play Platinum with friends and then they leave before extraction so you can get Platinum solo - is that true? Sounds incredibly cheesy to me.

Oh god, you're talking about me. Sorry, i had a headache that day and i was getting really frustrated about the health gate thing. I mean, before the dlc i never went down so much.

Sorry again, I really didn't mean to play so bad. :crying:

I got it specifically so that PUGs would think I could handle running off alone. If I'm about to go down, I try to make it to the rest of the squad, and I'm generally less bold on later rounds, but I'm not joking. I get REALLY bored if a group is camping, so I run off alone, and the banner is there so that, hopefully, people think that that's completely fine. Gavorn's tricks at work.

I've played with, I think, three people with the Lone Wolf banner, and all three of them really did play like lone wolves. And by that I mean they ****ed when they didn't get to do the objective, they ****ed when people went down (or just didn't bother to revive anyone), they ****ed when they went down on the other side of the map and the three of us had fifteen thousand dragoons between us and him, they ****ed when the three of us were tearing things apart with tech and biotic explosions because "that's not the way you're supposed to play". So if you want to solo, go play solo. I think I'm putting Lone Wolf banners on auto kick for awhile unless they can prove they can be a team player.

3 is a negligible sample size.ABSOLUTE minimum to have results that would mean anything for a random sample is 5.  And why wouldn't you get to the objective? Isn't that sort of the point, those rounds? And how the hell can anyone prove they can be a team player if you kick them? That just seems... odd.

Whatever, the important thing is this: you haven't played with enough with the banner to differentiate between individual characteristics of individual players and the population of 'Lone Wolf' banner holders in general.

*ahem* sorry, yeah, I wasn't naming and shaming - I probably expect more of people with the Lone Wolf banner than I should :innocent:

I don't think I'd played with you before, I take it you were having a couple of off-games last night?

Though in that second game, on Vancouver, I was having some slightly weird lag and missing with Krogan heavy melee a lot (thankfully Tech Armour doesn't miss) - let's put it down to weird lag? :D

Lone wolf means that the person had the patience to suffer a boring way to play this game, nothing more than that. It's definitely not a rambo flag. If you follow this logic, most of the players that got banners are "rambo", since it's by far the most used banner, and the first from most players.

It's just a easy, boring banner to get. Anyway, I won't use it, everybody is using, too mainstream (hipster feelings)..

I wear the lonewolf banner, and I entered a game last night on my GI testing out the new Javalin in hopes to get some quick creds to unlock my Shaman ;d.... I'm not picky who I play with. Any weapon loadout, any build, and as long as it's  not platinum---any level. I just want to have games where everyone is having fun, that is my criteria.

I enter a lobby with two guys who are carrying on a conversation. Then a level 8 guy enters. They both start shouting "Hey let's kick him, he's level eight, he's not doing it right." and I think to myself that they should at least hear the guy out, so I refrain from kicking him. Then he proudly boasts "I will outscore all of you, trust me."

We start the game. Level eight quits after his bold statement turns out not to be true. The other two guys decide to try and camp Geth the old fashioned way and miserably fail. I end up carrying them for awhile. Don't mind. Because gold is easy.

The next game, I have a similar problem, only abit worse. I spend the majority of the game ghosting around and reviving people----more time reviving than shooting---making for a very annoying match. I generally don't mind carrying a team. I really don't. There have maybe been a handful games where I litterally felt like a babysitter and this was one of them. I could have kept going at wave 10, but after completing the objective I opted for kicking an Atlas in the shins so it would kill me and end it.

I don't appreciate the generalization, but, I can relate; I understand. They exist for a reason, rarely is a generalization unprovoked. If someone goes down, I make it a priority to run to them above all esle- The only exception is that I will put objective waves first.

take into account a player might be lagging. doesnt matter how good you are if there is the slightest bit of extra lag. ive been in games where its been very difficult to stay on my feet due to bullets following me over cover, or kill trading with troopers.

I've only been in games with a handful of people with the Lone Wolf banner... but good grief.

First time I thought, "Ah hah, Lone Wolf, someone who knows what they're doing - good oh" ... now I'm beginning to suspect Lone Wolf means "I am going to Rambo it, fall over and get stomped on before the team can get to me and then, when I fail to top the scoreboard, quit as soon as the match is over".

Recently I've pretty much just been playing Krogan - I'll admit it, running around going MMMWWRRAAAWWWWWW is probably my favourite thing in the game at the moment. So I'm in a U/U/G lobby as a Kroldier and a Lone Wolf joins playing as a GI, turns out to be Cerberus/Jade ... and I can't remember the last time I've had to pick someone up so many times.

He wasn't bad at outputting damage and clocking up points (he was a GI after all) but he just sat on "Suicide Bridge" and kept getting killed... he did get a decent level of points to be fair, about 80k, second on the scoreboard.

Next game he stuck with it, I switched to Krentinel, he switched to Turian Ghost... Vancouver/Reapers; I swear he only made it to the end of about 2 rounds without getting either synch-killed or stomped on by a Marauder... he finished third on the scoreboard. As soon as we complete the mission, he quits.

Am I just having bad luck with "Lone Wolves" or is it really a "Warning: suicidal Rambo" flag?

If you have the lone wolf banner, that means you solo'd platinum. Anyone that can solo platinum is a good player. My guess is a roommate or friend was playing his profile or he was testing weapons or characters.

But I noticed, quite a few people do not like having Lone Wolves int he lobby. They either kick them or leave themselves.

Yeah, this has happened to me a couple of times.

The most recent one was earlier today. Joined a random match and it was Firebase Ghost (hazard) against Collectors on Silver. It was round 2 and there were two other people, one a Turian Havoc and the other a Human Male Adept. I take it they knew each other as they were both chatting away.

Anyway, I pretty much carried them through wavs 5, 6 and 9 as they both died. They helped me a couple of times by telling me if something was creeping up on me (looking at you, Possessed Abomination) but when the match ended and we got back into the lobby, one of them kicked me and then the other one kicked me.

Stuff like that doesn't bother me as it's easy to find another game. I just wish people would tell you why or at least say "thanks" before giving me the boot..

I've never been kicked because of it, but i have experienced people leave as soon as I go into the lobby.

I've also had the situation where people have changed to lower level characters, when I entered it was all 19/20's next minute its all 12/13 and even a 1... <_<

Speak of the devil...you are actually the first Lone Wolf I've played with Hoops. :D  You were actually the first one I saw with that banner too.

So far for me, those guys with banners have proven quite decent in Gold and Silver PUGs.

Lone Wolf in itself doesn't mean much - it all depends on how that guy got the solos done. At the top of the pyramid, you have the elites who solo Platinum. In the middle, you have the guys who did 2 Gold solos, 3 Silvers and 5 Bronze. At the bottom tier, you have those who did said Gold solos with Kroguards against Geth (that's me). Finally, in the cess-pit, you have those who did the Platinum solo with 1 Cobra missile (before Bioware fixed that little glitch).

I'm sorry guys, I don't mean to generalize you by those three people, but it's just that I've only seen three or so people with the banner. It isn't JUST people with the banner, and there have been plenty of others without it displayed (whether they have it or not, and even before the were in the game) that have acted the same way and their play style has always been the same. They're either going off trying to play a lone wolf apart from the rest of us and screwing things over for us or actively disrupting team synergy so they can put themselves as number one. That isn't the way I play a team game and I don't appreciate people playing that way in my games. And a banner proclaiming that it is highly probable that you play that way is a red flag to me.

So do you have to solo platinum for the lone wolf banner or just 2 golds, 5 silver, 10 bronze?
I can handle the gold, the platinum just takes way, way too much patience.
