There are SO MANY THREADS about being disconnected in the middle of the game. WHY isn't there ANYTHING done to address this almost game-breaking issue???

I used to disconnect constantly then I clicked on the origin troubleshooting tab on their client. After modifying my firewall to allow some ports access. I haven't discoonected since. It's kinda fishy that bioware doesn't mention this on the forums and makes me think origin is creepy and monitoring my pc.

Out of curiousity, what ports? I only have a router, and considering I can play without any modifications to it, maybe that could help. I'm sorta pissed whenever this happens, and yesterday it was unbearable, so anything that can help is appreciated.

If u click on the help tab on the Origin client and click on "Origin Help" you can scroll down to the EA Games section.  There is a mass effect 3 tab there.  Scroll down to troubleshooting and there is a network troubleshooting guide.  Here I copy pasted it for u:

"NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTING FOR MASS EFFECT 3 MULTIPLAYER

If you're encountering connectivity issues with Mass Effect 3, a good first step is to ensure the proper ports are opened. The UDP Ports that need to be enabled inbound & outbound to play multi-player:

UDP Ports: 5659, 6000
Using a restricted connection (such as NAT 3) can cause problems hosting a game. You will be able to create a lobby, but no one will be able to join it via quick match since Match Making will identify you as a “bad host”. However, if you invite your friend directly, you will be able to join without any problem. You should be able to join other games without any problem. More troubleshooting steps for network connections can be found at https://help.ea.com/...n-to-ea-servers
"

I'm quite computer ignorant and I dont know what a NAT 3 is or what those ports do, but I do know that enabling those ports has fixed my multiplayer disconnect issue.

I went from getting stuck in "waiting for players" once in 30 or so games before the DLC to disconnecting before during and after almost 2 of 3 games. Even in lobbies I'll lose connection.

If it's my connection fine, but I don't have problems with other games, netflix, etc. And I didn't have 1/10 the problem before the DLC. Just seems like more than coincidence.

I have a separate post here: http://social.biowar.../index/14556666 outlining all the issues I've noticed since the Retaliation DLC.

Funny fact, even without portforwarding, sometimes I can host (although sometimes I cannot).
But when I tried portforwarding, it did not fix my disconnection issues back in the day, because it's Origin in the back who starts freaking out.

The internet is an old imperfect technology.   Also, how many players use wireless modems to connect to the game?  If you do then there's a high probability the problem is on your end.  If it's happening too often, just reboot your router, and if the problem persists, update your firmware, or contact your ISP if they gave you the router.  If you've got a little router knowledge, go into the settings and put your console into the DMZ (or open the appropriate ports if you play on PC).

The disconnection issue isn't with the players, it is an EA server issue, People who play FIFA say it is just as bad as this game with the disconnections.

As others have said it is Origin's issue on PC. Well most of the time.

I use a wire. I've been using a wire for ages. The problem persists. What now?

The other day I was soloing, and a friend joined. All was well, it was only Bronze, Slayer+other thing roflstomped. Wave 8: Your connection to the game has been lost.

This on top of the fact that taking the time to refit your character before searching for a match can make the game just...not find any matches, and the fact that trying to join a friend's game often results in a neverending "Joining Game" screen, and the repeated connection failures in the middle of an otherwise entirely lag-free game...

...none of which are anything like as frequent in any other game I play (not even Halo 2 which has fairly frequent connection issues - but on the other hand, it lets you back into the game after it's re-established connection..), and in some games I can go weeks without seeing a single connection-related issue of any kind.

So yeah, I'm thinkin' it's something wrong with EA.

I'm not kidding, I've been trying to get a game going for the last 30 minutes.

First, no one joins the game in like 5 minutes. Okay.
Second, I started up a few games, and on my third try where I was the only player, I got disconnected. Okay.
And again, after updating something finally people joined up, we started a round, and during wave 4, I got disconnected (as the host).

I can imagine how annoyed the guys were who joined the game.
Probably even more annoyed than I am.

Probably because BioWare doesn't control the servers - EA does.

Well that's cool and all, but they're the ones responsible for the code that throws you off immediately if the connection to the EA servers is at any time "lost". They could have also written it to attempt to reconnect in the background, on a second thread. In fact, they could have made network connection coding multi-threaded in the first place, that way it wouldn't take 3 minutes to join the game.
That way, you would be able to continue playing the game while it still allows you to play through your existing P2P connections, and fix the problem without interrupting the gameplay (especially in such a crude and ridiculous manner).

THIS IS TOTAL BS, NONE OF IT WILL HELP YOU!

THOSE ARE WRONG PORTS!

Port forwarding will not help with disconnects, but it will allow you to join your friend's game even if you or your friend have a strict firewall.

Use the link in my signature for the correct port (there is only one) and more info on network problems.;)

Whenever I get disconnected it happens a few times a day, then it's fine for the rest of the day. Everything else in the house stays connected with no problems, my Xbox stays connected to Xbox Live. Also every other game I play online doesn't suffer from connection problems.

You can't say it isn't to do with EA's servers.

....WAIT A SECOND, they are using UDP to ensure a continuous connection that cannot handle any lost packets?

WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING, do they have absolutely no idea how these packets even work? It should be TCP if it's THAT important not to lose any packets.

It's defeating the point of playing to get credits to spend on consumables if I can't KEEP the consumables I used trying to get the credits I rightfully earned in the first place.

If Bioware can dock my consumables in real-time, WHAT THE FUDGE is keeping them from granting us our earned credits in the same way!?:pinched:

Edit: Double-post, my bad.

They've only thought of giving you the credits when the objective is complete, and they didn't think of giving it delay and providing it at wave 4, 7. and 11 so you cannot exploit the host migration.

I'm from Brazil and I play almost exclusively with players from my country. One of them lives a few miles from my house and we ALL get disconnected sometimes. I run a "clean ship". No firewall, no antivirus or anything to mess up my connection. I play online games a lot, no problems. Battlefield 3? Fine. Warhammer? Fine. Borderlands? Fine. Left 4 Dead 2? Fine. Pretty much everything runs fine.

So yeah, unless there is something at my IP trying to troll-me with EA, I don't believe the problem is here.

This hurts me.

This hurts you.

But why? No ME3 player at your country?

I played for months in the States without any disconnects. Then, at the beginning of September, I came to Ukraine. My computer here didn't really meet the minimum requirements to play ME3 (LOL, it had a 7800GTX video card), but I actually did manage to do a bronze solo for that weekend's challenge. On subsequent tries to play, the machine often just shut down around wave 10 (not disconnect - just shut down as if I pulled the plug). I never had a disconnect, though, or any trouble connecting. But, I decided it was time for a new PC. The new machine, from the first time I tried to connect, had problems. When I did connect, I would pretty much always get disconnected in the later waves. Since I had no problems connecting or getting disconnected with the old machine (it just was not up to doing ME3), I figured the problem had to be on my end. I did the port forwarding thing, and some other stuff I read about. BINGO - haven't had a disconnect since. Have probably played 100 games since then. I could have sat around complaining about the servers and waiting (probably forever) for whoever to "fix" the "their" problem (which I doubt actually exists). But, no, I took the trouble to fix it myself, knowing I had solid connections in the States, and solid connections BEFORE the new machine here in Ukraine. (BTW, I go back home tomorrow - if I start having connection problems there that I can't fix, I'll retract everything I said. :-))

...wait a second, portforwarding only needs to be done with routers, whether your computer is old or new is irrelevant. O.o

I never used to get disconnected at all. Decided to start playing again today (6 month break), and now I got disconnected 4 times in 2 hours. Twice at round 10. Fun.

Have you read the terms of service for you as a consumer? Do you think EA is going to be anything less than strict about what developers can and cannot do with connections and data?

We're both in the open water of speculation here, but I'm guessing BioWare cannot do much if anything about the connections problem.
