In our culture, dying like a hero is usually considered the most acceptable form of death, and in the first ending of this game my character did just that: she sacrificed herself to save all her friends and the rest of the galaxy. I call that an epic ending, far more emotional and memorable than one in which she survived would have been. I also found it fitting intellectually that to defeat such a formidable enemy as the Reapers, the ultimate sacrifice was necessary.

Just like so often in real wars.

Name me one real war. People either end up dead or, if they make a big difference, come through it alive. There have been zero wars instantly won by someone's heroic sacrifice.

Well, if I am to take your line seriously, I've studied history at university, and there are many cases of a single battle that decided the war in question, so it shouldn't be too hard to find examples of people whose efforts largely contributed to the outcome of that battle but died in the course of doing so and became regarded as heroes by the winning survivors. But you missed my point. Someone usually dies when making attempts to win a war - and the more challenging or dangerous the enemy, the greater effort or sacrifices are likely to be needed. That was what I meant with the reference to real wars.

Think about it a little further. In reality, people on this Earth die all the time in their attempts to achieve something. But only a true hero would sacrifice his or her own life for the sake of others. So if Shepard is the ultimate hero, that's the way he or she must go.

That's why I found the ending for my character epic.

Taken as a whole, the ME Trilogy is the best game I've ever played. I think ME3 saved the series from where ME2 was going, so yeah, I would not hesitate a second to buy it again, knowing what I know now.

1. Cannot accept a differing opinion? Boy, life must very hard for you.

2. This only goes to show how different people can percieve the same thing, through different background, diiferent values etc. I think ME1 is the best part of the series, ME2 removed too much of what I appreciated most in ME1, but ME3 re-introduced some of those features, so was an improvement over ME2 in those respects. I have no trouble saying this because ME3 is so much more than the ending for me.

I should perhaps mention that I waited with playing ME3 until I could use the Extended Cut DLC from the start. Waiting half a year or so after the original release is always a good idea nowadays to avoid the worst bugs etc, with the game developpers so often being pressed to rush the production by the game owners for short-sighted profits at the expense of best quality and long-term profits.

Say you met this person who had a time machine. He sends you back to March 5th. Would you cancel your pre-order? Would you not go to the midnight release? Would you not buy it the next day?

I personally would wait until it was half off. It's the economical decision and they're releasing the whole trilogy for $75, so yeah. I paid $20 each for the first two and if I paid $30 for this one it would've added up perfectly.

I would have bought it used or half off.  And I would not have gotten so invested in it as a great story.  I would have had lowered expectations.

I loved the previous games too much not to buy ME3. But would I have preordered the CE and basically rearrange my life so that all free time is spent playing it the first week it came out? Probably not. Had I known the price would have dropped so fast, I would have waited until the EC and Leviathan were both out to save some of the heartbreak with the ending.

No, and I would probably put a sign outside every games retailer I could find warning people away.

You're going to have to explain the second point to me. ME3 was nothing like ME1. There was no sense of winning the battle on you will alone. The Tuchanka and Rannoch arcs lost meaning once you realized that uniting these races wasn't for the war effort, but to buy time for a WMD that may or may not even work. You couldn't form or advance relationships with people the same way you could in ME1, many of them were pre-determined. When doing a side quest you were not allowed to explore or even talk to the people you were helping, the exceptions being Jordan Bau, the Volus diplomat and the Elcor diplomat. There was no middle ground to choose for your Shepard. Every decision and dialogue option was extreme. Hell, even the art style was completely different.

Please, explain.

I just wish I'd been told Mass Effect 3 was as disappointing as Dragon Age 2. Then I would have been prepared, less alienated, and the realisation that the game sucked compared to the other two wouldn't have been so harsh.

I mean, seriously, who thought it was a good idea to strip down what defined the series in the first place?

Still would have got it just to say that I'd completed the whole trilogy, though.

I would have purchased the CE edition if I knew it would bring me so much joy followed by 7 months of schadenfreude on BSN.

Well, as it is I waited a while before I actually go it; not that I didn't love Mass Effect 2, but the presures companies are putting on pre-ordering everything just puts me off more than it encourages me.

Knowing about the ending in advance… I'd have probably waited even longer to get a bargain, or get a version bundled with all current and future DLC.

Only the regular edition (not the collector's edition I paid for like a fool), and just to get multiplayer. The single player campaign, because the ending, was heartbreakingly bad. A complete betrayal of those of us who put so much of ourselves into Shepard. Traitorous.

I like the multiplayer game though, even though I'm just somewhat adequate in it. It is fun.

Those who say no and are still here on BSN 8 months after the fact everyday constantly talking about it are liars

And they clog up the forums with their negativity.

And then the cheerleaders come in and whine at us expressing our opinion, which is our right as PAYING customers.

You know if i order a sandwhich and ask for no onions and get onions, It's annoying and I might even say something, but I'm not gonna go back to the place everday to crap on them for it. You can't convince me that after 8 months of complaining you're still not on the hook for this series and would of never bought it or buy the inevitable sequel.  You're lying if say otherwise. I dare any of you to delete your account and step away. You can't. You're obsessed. Bioware knows it and they know they really dont have to work that hard to please you. A bunch of angry internet jockeys arent scary. Only when their profits start to hurt will people get their way and from the money they're making from MP and the fact Leviathan sold very well, it doesnt seem like nothing needs changing from a bussiness standpoint.

A better analogy would be if you went to that deli every day, you knew the people behind the counter on a first name basis and they knew what sandwich you wanted, and one day they just place a dog turd in your sandwich, then when you bring it up they say "oh, well as professional food preparers we don't think your opinion really matters, but how about we give you a free drink. That'll make us square."

Absolutely. It's one of my favorite series of all time. If the ending wasn't worth it, and I honestly think the ending's decent, it doesn't nullify the hundreds of hours I've spent in this franchise.

Why stay on BSN ME forums if you hate Mass Effect and are not interested in buying ME games? Someone please explain, if you can.

Look, I've been vocal in my disdain of the end of the trilogy, but I still love the franchise and will continue to pay for any and all ME core games and DLC. I don't buy comics or books.

What is with people saying I'll never buy? Why post? Why visit? I can understand the I'll buy later and the I'll buy used folks lurking. I totally get that.

For lulz. Watching pro-enders asspulls and contradictory attempts to make sense out of complete nonsense is fun.
Also, to remind EAWare of their falures.
Don't worry, when ME3 finally dies, most of us who still remains here, will move out.

Stupid question really. Of course I'd buy it. In my opinion this whole ending fiasco is ridiculously overblown. I think the backlash is way too over the top, and people just jump on the band wagon.

Regardless of whether one likes the endings or not, the rest of the game easily oustrips most other "good" games out there. Tell me what i could've spent that money on. The latest Call of Duty? How about the new FIFA or NFL? So few games provide as Mich bang for their buck as Mass Effect (or even RPG's in general).

Even without getting more game, the rest of the game is really good fun. I still play the entire trilogy, and will do for years to come because I appreciate what the game has, while accepting where it failed, or missed an opportunity. It was never going to be my perfect Mass Effect game. I'm just so glad I went in knowing that. Some people went in expecting perfection and have now ruined a perfectly good game for themselves.

Yes. Basically Rannoch and Tuchanka were worth the price of admission for me. Just bitterly annoyed by the finish, then a slew of minor annoyances, but all 3 games had those.
