I pray to the Creators that his prophecy doesn't mean synthesis will be the ending.

I know what you mean, and I certainly share the feeling, but...

When you think about it, making everyone a mage would render the whole war rather a moot point.

Well yes, everyone would be too busy fighting for their lives against the tens of thousands of abominations in Kirkwall and other cities where the veil is thin, not to mention all the regular members of the population who suddenly have access to magic and are deceived by demons and also become abominations. It'd be rather like a zombie plague. One person becomes an abomination in a village, and then forces the possessions of his neighbors, and then the village, and then they spread further.

Yeah none of that would be good

Perhaps all the darkspawn will become "awakened", since Corypheus was unleashed upon the world by possessing Janeka/ Larius. (At least... I thought so :P Why else would they make that creepy face, then say "My gratitude you have", etc. etc.") And since the darkspawn, as far as I know, were mages, they could be awakened and regain their power. BUUUUT that still doesn't cover everyone else, insofar as the part: "Everyone will be just like they were."

"Everyone will be just like they were" could refer to the reawakened Tevinter magisters subjugating everyone like in the days of old. Another unpleasant scenario to think about, but that does have a reasonable fit.

What Sandal's prophecy?
Sandal only says one word throughout Dragon Age Origns.

Enchantment!

Image IPB

Also how did we manage to get through 3 pages of a "Sandal" thread without the word "enchantment" being uttered.

*nods* To further the speculation factor, in order for the war to end between mages and templars in DA3, perhaps they need a common enemy. So... [insert darkspwan] :P

"One day the magic will come back.  All of it.  Everyone will be just like they were." means one of the endings will have the option to make everyone a mage (synthesis) and end any more of these conflicts. Well, provided your war assets are high enough, and you play MP. If you have Anders you can sacrifice him to make this happen, otherwise goodbye new main character.

I want to hear people's oppinions on what it might mean.

I tried to find out myself.  I know that there's alot of simularities between The Chantry and Christianity.  So I asked someone who has researched christianity a whole lot to look at what it said:  "One day the magic will come back.  All of it.  Everyone will be just like they were.  The shadows will part and the skies will open wide.  When he rises, everyone will see."  Keep in mind she doesn't even know about Dragon Age.  She said that they believe there is a world that is here but not here.  And that we are blind to it because there is a veil that seperates it.  And that when God comes to the earth, the dead will rise and the veil will be removed.

In regards to biblical allusions(which are actually quite common as are many references to religious texts in various forms of media), that refers largely to concepts addressed in the Book of Revelations, the original title of which roughly translates into the word Apocalypse(which had entirely different connotations back then, in fact the subject matter of the Book of Revelations probably has a lot to do with its modern association with an End of Days scenario rather than its original Greek literal meaning). The original themes are triumph of good and evil and end of the present age(coincidence in the Age based calendar? :P), while it is more popular to simply use these allusions to foreshadow the end of the world.

!!! So this is why he mentions the old lady and her scary laugh ( referring to Flemeth).

It's just a thing Bioware made up for speculation sake and probably have no real idea where to go with it.

The tale grows in the telling. I'd suggest hearing G.R.R Martin's analogy on the architect and the gardner too. If BioWare put that in without knowing what to do with it; they will eventually, even if it does have some continuity errors. If not, they applied both their architectural skills and gardner techniques to it.

It would be very true if he did that more often. He's a strange character, our Sandal. :D

sandal's fun like that, isn't he?  though, i have to say, it seems like the majority of what he communicates may have been learned through echolalia to start with.  (of course, you can never quite tell things like that with people who aren't very verbal, so...)

I do enjoy speculating. What could Sandal mean?

I don't think it means everybody will be a mage. There was never a time when everybody was a mage, as far as I know. I think it means that all the magical knowledge lost due to the Chantry's suppression, the destruction of Arlathan, etc. will be regained. Which would certainly not sit well with the Tevinters.

Sidethought: maybe both Chantry's would unite as both their foundations are threatened?

Everybody going back to how they were: I think this means the elves will become as they were in the time of Arlathan. Not just magic but all sorts of knowledge. I have a hunch this could actually be unsettling to some of the Dalish.
I also think the dwarves will change. Either they will regain the ability to do magic or perhaps even revert to how they were at the time of the primeval thaig. If they didn't have casteless at that time, or it was significantly different (a form of punishment rather than a 'class' that would affect generations).

I don't know what this could mean for humans. Alternatives to the Chantry would become more prevalent? I have know idea how much humans have changed (other than the magic issue).

I think what could be really interesting is what this could mean to the Qunari. Would the kossith remember what it was like before the Qun and revolt? Has the Qun become more stringent and inflexible over the years? We know so little about them.

On a fun note, maybe the griffons will come back.
