I don't know how to help you there except for hoping you have an earlier save. The battle is supposed to end with the thug leader surrendering. He then gives you the token. After that you can decide to either let them go or fight them to the death again.
Maybe someone else has a better idea because they ran into this bug before, I hope so if you dont' have a previous save.

Check and see if it (the fingerbone token) is in your quest items list. If it is then you're good - use it on one of the doors in Dust Town (it should be able to be highlighted by pressing TAB). If you don't have a token then as Sabriana suggests you might have to revert to an earlier save. The guy is supposed to surrender.
Just making sure - you are going in to the last house on the left in Dust Town, correct? The thug should say something about Jarvia knowing you have been asking around. I can't recall the exact wording.

Geez, I can't understand why people don't make savegames... I have a savegame for each beginning of an area and one I use for inbetweensaving which gets saved last at the end AND I use quicksave too inbetween. Helps immensely to avoid such problems.
Have you tried opening the door you need the bone for? Not sure if it's an actual item you have in your bags...

Don't know about consoles but the PC version of the game autosaves everytime you enter an area in Orzammar, so unless you've been deliberately deleting them why not go back to the last one and try again?

Have you tried opening the door? Are you sure you killed the right people? You get a dialogue scene before ending it to either let them go or kill them, either way you get the key. I've yet to run into this problem ever, if you did in fact kil the right people and you still can't open the door I dunno.
