I really liked the character in ME2 and at the start of ME3.

Liara's problem was that her character seemed to have had several people write her, and each had a different idea regarding dialogue, emotion, etc. I would have had her keep the LotSB personality during the war and what we saw on Mars. More focused and a hell of a lot less naive. But it was like she had multiple personalities.

WTF? Who is this person in this act? One time she's focused and ruthless. Another she's the ME1 Liara on Therum. I blame the writers. The writing was pretty bad. Her character deserved a lot better.

Hell, this entire game deserved a lot better writing.

The focused and ruthless act is just that... an act. To intimidate. To better shoot things when she's on her own. It's an act both towards others, and to herself.

I thought this was pretty clear to players?

She's always the ME1 Liara. All that changed is that she saw that being ME1 Liara wasn't always appropriate to the situation.

So then that balance of personalities shatters on Thessia for a while. She's torn between 'tough' Liara that knows well how dark the galaxy can be, and 'No! My home! I was with mother here... those monsters!' young Liara.

And then add that Javik tells her that the asari past (aka Liara's past and tradition..) is a lie...

Liara isn't the best written, but sheesh, she's nowhere near the worst.

How was she annoying? Her home planet was being burned to the ground in front of her eyes? You would be acting the same if YOUR home was being destroyed by colossal machines from Dark Space.

. I don't recall seeing Shepard, Vega, VS, Garrus, or anybody else crying into their bed because their planets fell.  Maybe if she just wasn't so damn whiny about it it wouldn't be so bad, but that's all she does.  Grow some balls, or go back to the ship.  He'll, Javik's entire freakin species has been eradicated, what does he do? Grits his teeth and carries on, he doesn't become a wailing mess over it.

Funny how all your examples are soldiers, not civilians, which Liara is.

. She's the shadow broker, she has killed lots if people, LotSB makes it clear that she has changed

Liara is a Doctor/Scientist, not a soldier, but still....even if the rest are soldiers, inside they are devastated about what is happening on Earth.

When Tali's species is threatened with extinction, she commits suicide.

When Legion's species is threatened with extinction, he goes crazy on you and attacks you.

When Ashley's species is threatened with extinction, she gets smashed and passes out on the floor.

We all have our own ways. Liara's is very 'good-hearted Asari'. Not everyone can bear it like Samara.

The Asari have the strength in being able to grow and expand a productive and artful civilization. Their weakness is seeing anything directly crack that carefully managed sculpture. In fact, most were in denial that anything could touch them, in the end.

Funny, I hated her in ME2 except for LOTSB and loved her in ME3 and I didn't see any issues except for her Citadel date if you are still loyal to her, osmething her writer has admitted. Hell of alot better then the crap the team pulled with her in base ME2.

Well, I'm pretty sure no one here has ever witnessed billions of people being harvested, lasered, ripped to shreds, blown up, etc.

And as for the "Shepard saw that too" people lurking around in here, (and they always are) Shepard is a grown soldier. Liara is a barely mature scientist. There's a huge difference.

. Then she should know she can't handle it and she should to back to the ship, not annoy Shepard and the other squaddie the whole time

Pretty sure she was still singularitying husks all over the place at the same time.

I love all of this stuff btw, because it reminds me of Jack, a scared little girl that is forced to 'grow up' even when that isn't exactly the best for her.

While I'm no best pals with Liara and at some point I did feel a bit annoyance about her reaction to the banshees (humans had husks long before that) and her reaction on her home planet.

But then she's quite "young" by Asari standards and she's a civilian. (sort of) so I tend to give her a break. I know she changes in the games but even in the third one, she still seems sort of innocent. I could be wrong, I havn't really read any comics with her (or anyone else for that matter) and she wouldn't be the first messed up character in ME3 due to fail writing.

. She stoppd being innocent to me when on Mars

She isn't innocent. She just wants to be, or by ME3, wishes she could have been,

Exactly, killing Banshees is a no-no. Killing Canibals, Marauders, Collectors and Husks are ok. Also, I never heard a human say "I can't kill that Husk because that used to be another human!" Its not that Liara is upset, its that Liara acts like hers is the only planet under attack and only people being Reaperized.

Shepard wasn't annoyed. Nor was the other squadmate.

You're playing a game. For the characters, this is their life. No one is going to say "Stop being a wuss" while a planet is being destroyed in a matter of hours.

Liara loves her home planet, and she wanted to take part in defending it. No one would blame her. Nor would anyone blame her for how she reacted when she got there.

Again, to you, it's a game. To the characters, it's really happening. If you were really that much of a douchebag in a situation like this in my presence, you'd be on your own, 'cause I sure as hell wouldn't tolerate it.

Not on the edge, alright.

But losing Thessia is just like bashing a bat into the facade of their civilization during a Reaper invasion.

It's, ironically (heh me and IT...) the 'wake up call' for not just the Asari, but Liara, on just how VERY serious and dreadful all of this war is.

When Thessia gets attacked and falls, it shows that only the Citadel is left to hold any semblence of 'peaceful' civilization.

And then the Citadel gets moved so the galaxy is boned. Now or never.

FURTHERMORE, you have all the other squaddies after the mission being "Aw, poor Liara. It must be tough..."

P.S. This reeks of Mary-Sue characterization. The script for the Mars mission when Liara enters is practically the blueprint for Mary Sues...
