Geth on Reactor last night.

Completed wave 10, I stayed at the far side of the reactor, and despite several mic wanrings that were ignored, the rest of the team sprinted straight for the extraction point.  Within 20 seconds, there were 3 first aid symbols on my screen.

I ended up lone survivor.

Next game, Hydra.  Against Collectors.  Same squad of players, exactly the same thing happened again, only this time I managed to rocket the Praetorians and Scions swarming the extraction point and revive one lucky player before the shuttle arrived.

STAY AWAY FROM THE EXTRACTION POINT.  YOU WILL BE SWARMED.

Do people just not want the bonus credits or something?

The stupid pilot tells them to, and until they become experienced and figure it out for themselves or look here, theyll never know.
It is 100% the fault of the game

" hurry up, get to the LZ!"

"we gotta get going, get to that extraction!"

I usually find that if one person starts running towards the LZ, theres a good chance another will follow and then with 2 people there, there'll be the 3rd one who goes as well. I go there straightaway in solos, but only because I'll be moving soon to do a map circuit.

I never get the people who rush to the extraction point on Hydra. Worst extraction zone ever, especially against Geth. Yet when I play with random players, nobody but me keeps it low profile until last 12-15 seconds.

I guess some players figure it will be easier to hold the line if they bunker up at the LZ. The problem with that is, especially on higher difficulties, you need to be pumping out constant, decent damage to even try to hold back most of the enemies that approach.

It also depends on the faction you're up against in my opinion. I've personally found that when I'm against Cerberus, players don't tend to go to the LZ so quickly. Geth, on the other hand, they run away from faster than light.

That, too.

They seem to forget everything instantly dies after the shuttle arrives.Which is also a good way to get some challenges.

1 person on the LZ others distracting and diverting the opposition = safe extraction where that 1 guy takes out the wanderers and the 3 others hold the tidal waves elsewhere.
Found this works well enough.

Though whenever extraction comes up if one goes there I will follow the group that has more people in it. i try to keep people alive for extraction. So gotta go with the teams flow.

Umm cause holding the extraction point isn't hard if you hav any skill at all and I dunno maybe because people think its fun. Imagine that someone playing the game a different way than you do.

I think it kind of depends on the map and your squad. There are only a few maps where I would consider the extraction zone do be a death trap, Hydra among them. If your squad is good at holding a point, why run around and risk being split up? You are however unlikely to make it if one player does NOT do it and runs around elsewhere. Then it's just everyone for himself.

At least on PC, holding the landing zone is normal. I do it mostly for the "objective-feel" - it might not be smart, but it feels like I'm really holding off the onslaught until extraction.

Perhaps because Admiral "Maybe" Hackett keeps saying 'GET TO EXTRACTION, DO IT' so they feel they must! May-or-may-not-be-Hacket NEEDS US.

People on silver do it a lot. Gold players are normally wiser than that

The ONLY maps that I hold the LZ are London, and Vancouver.
Simply because I'm normally AT the LZ in Vancouver, and for London, with one person on the bridge, one on the LZ side stairs and two near the LZ, you can hold that line all day long.

Other than that...DON'T RUSH THE LZ YOU MORONS!!!

Bad habits from playing bronze, and silver where it's entirely possible to last an entire extraction wave for some cases.

Agree. You most likely will fail if you hurry to the LZ.

Unless you are on Bronze, of course - then that's the easiest place to get lots of points at the end of the match.

welll, it DOES sound a bit weird logic that the best way to extract is to stay away from LZ until extractio so its quite obvious the people will think that holding the LZ is the best idea.

You know, because most people tend to think with RL logic first and gameplay function logic afterwards considering they have one lifes worth of experience with the former and varying amount of ME3 experience with the latter. (especially when ME reminds them between missions to stay on LZ as stated earlier on!)

and on silver where it is actually manageable it *does* make the last stand much more interesting to actually make it a *last stand*

PUGs always rush to the LZ, it's just one of the facts of life.

Before dragoons and bombers it used to be possible to hold the LZ and many considered it to be the easiest bit of the match. Now you WILL get swarmed and extraction has become a whole new challenge. People are still shaking off their old habits and some may never learn new tricks.

Honestly, I think we deserve a wee bit more credits for getting through extraction as it is usually the most stressful part. If you've gone through hell and back with a PUG for 20 minutes or so you want to see that Mission Sucess screen (and the credits!)

I run as far as possible from extraction. Sometimes people stay with me and sometimes they run to extraction. Usually when they all head to extraction I run from hiding spot to hiding spot until the last 20 seconds. Sometimes they are still there, occasionally there is one I can still revive and every now and then I get lone survivor. I also try not to kill anything or rocket any spawns because enemies seem to seem to spawn more at a time and the less banshees and phantoms I have to run through the better...

My experience has only been playing Bronze so I can't speak for higher difficulties, but I do tend to rush for the LZ as soon as wave 11 starts. Never really thought about why except that it's where the highest concentration of enemies are likely to be, and therefore the greatest potential for points gathering. If you're going lone Rambo and are on the other side of the map with 20 seconds to go and you get taken out (which does happen no matter how badass you are) then you have likely screwed things up for the squad. I'd rather stay in a tight formation and trust to 4 players' worth of firepower and powers to take down whatever comes at us, rather than risk a partial extraction by playing hero. Just my 2p worth, of course.

I always look for "heavies" before heading for the LZ. I like to keep an eye on it, so it's not swarming with enemies when people do get there (if they get there). But, I don't camp it until about 30 seconds left and only after I go after brutes, banshees, phantoms, atlas, praetorians, scions, primes....
