We've had a few of these threads lately. I don't mind Inon. He's capable for sure. But his work on DAO/DA2 seems very uninspiring to me. His music is usually incredible.

This is still my favorite song by him: Icewind Dale 2

Ah yes. I'm currently playing Icewind Dale 2 and I often just stand around to hear this song, and the others too. The game has a very, very beautiful soundtrack. I'm surprised that Inon Zur is the composer, to be honest! He had some amazing tracks, both in DA: O and DA II, but overall I find his work not that inspiring.

Yes surely there are tons of other soundtrack composers that are great. Hell , Bastilla's theme from Jeremy soule still haunts my mind. But one reason i got into Dragon age was the music.
The music is the soul of a game for me.
Tragic love from Inon in Lineage 2. This guy seriously catches the mood for medieval fantasy settings.
this is why i want him (not exclusively necesserily)

Inon zur has a different style for sure. I find his stuff more ''soft'' and ''clear''. Yes Dragon Origin soundtrack was awesome. All I am saying that sometime it's great to find new idea. A new style of music can be quite refreshing.
For exemple I am a total hardcore fan of Age of Conan sountrack. I love the style.

It's was Jeremy Soul that also did this and this and this and this . Awesome composer.

Just please stop wasting money on big fancy Hollywood composers. Might as well throw your coins into the river.

Clint Mansell's contribution to ME3 is completely generic and boring. I don't want the same thing to happen to DA3.

Agreed. DA:O and DA2's music is very weak compared to Zur's earlier work. Refer to the music of Baldur's Gate: Throne of Bhaal or Icewind Dale 2 to know what i'm talking about.

Clint mansell's contribution was the best piece in the game.

If you want generic fantasy music, I'm sure Two Steps from Hell is cheaper.

Which contributions? The generic piano music that sounds like a six year old trying her hands on the keys for the first time?

I know there're so many others!!!

That's a great list...

Say what you will about Mass Effect but no denying Jack Wall composed one of the best soundtracks this gen. It fits absolutely perfectly with the ME universe too...

Yep. The music just fits the games so well.

Its not exactly sit on the couch and drift out to music listening, but in game its exemplary. Water Dragon is one of the most perfect pieces for what its conveying I've ever heard.

personally not a fan of Inon Zur. I kinda hope they hire Paul Anthony Romero as composer. Heroes of Might and Magic series had some best fantasy-themed soundtracks.

I was just about to come in saying I had listened to one of their songs last night for the first time and liked it, so I'd personally support Two Steps from Hell doing the music for DA3.

Or Nobuo Uematsu. Or Yoko Shimomura.

Inon Zur's music is... more hit-and-miss for me. Some are good/great, but most are just meh and don't really sound awesome or stand out.

Inon Zur is fine by me but whoever composes the DA3 soundtrack she/he better be hired already. I don't want another rushed job and I doubt any composer will be pleased to work under a tight schedule.

Not to mention there were several soundtrack bugs (or simply bad sound design decisions) in DA2 and of all my four playthroughs the music has worked during the ending credits only once. Music is important, don't screw it up.

Hiroki Kikuta made the Secret of Mana' soundtrack in a week =]

oh? my turn to throw a name... hum Paul Anthony Romero ( www.youtube.com/watch ) I don't know if he does something else than the Might & Magic games though

kinda agree, Clint's theme is the weakest in the game although i still like it
And completely felt out of place while ALL the other themes untill Me3 were synth and scifi.

I don't really like most of the music in Dragon Age, it's just not memorable enough.
I really like Jesper Kyd's work in the Assassin's Creed series, and Nobuo Uematsu is my favourite video game composer (To Zanarkand ).

Personally, disliked Origins soundtrack but DA2's soundtrack was pretty good. If the soundtrack was Inon Zur rushed, they should rush him more often.

DA:O was amazing, DA:OA wasn't far off, mostly because it was an expansion.

I don't think the job was done as good in DA2, but still good. If Inon steps back up to DA:O standard then I'm truly happy, he's done a good job this far.

Agree with this up to a point.
I didn't actually dislike the Origins soundtrack (apart from the Orzammar theme, which just made me want to stick forks in my ears, and the unutterably awful 'romance'-scene music), but generally prefered DA2's. It seemed less of a Lord-of-the-Ringsy pastiche.
Would have been happier if certain DA:O themes hadn't been re-used, but realise that this is probably symptomatic of the oft-asserted short development cycle.

Origins soundtrack was amazing.

Zur is a very talented composer and he gave color to the Dragon Age universe. Sure it wasn't "catchy", but really, we don't need pop songs to span 50+ hour games.

Moreso that "catchy" is the equivalent to "bad" in music, like it or not.

I disagree. Bad Romance and Monster would be amazing songs for Anders' romance!
