A. have to deal with living under the rule of the Old Machines, those dicks that enslaved you and tried to kill everyone.  You hear that they're nice now, but part of you is really pissed about all this.

B. are forcefully reprogrammed and merged with organics, robbing you of your newfound independent identity and the chance to truly create your own future.  But don't worry, because someone everyone is super-happy now.

Incorrect. Both of these are false assumptions on your part.

Whilst I do agree, I quickly tired of how everything post-ME1 swept every negative thing the Geth had ever done under the rug so hard it cracked the floorboards. Did we say they've been killing everyone who crossed into their space ever since the Quarians were forced out, unarmed diplomatic ships included? Haha, woops. Uh, let's just never mention that again. Moving on. Misunderstood peace bots hooray.

Still, yes.

Not ignoring that at all. After the war they just got out of? F that noise. "Is it piloted by organics?" "Yes." "Is this our space?" "Yes." "BLOW IT UP."

"Is it piloted by organics?"
"Yes."
"Is it in our space?"
"No."
"Why are you looking at it? Get back to work."

Basic security is basic. They were hiding away in their corner, and didn't spread. Nothing is a clearer 'GO AWAY and leave us alone' than firing at visitors.

"Guys, we need another tragic death. The shuttle kid, Mordin and Thane wasn't enough to tug their heartstrings."
"Who do you need?"
"Someone childlike and semi-innocent. Preferably someone who was wildly and unanimously popular in ME2."
"Legion."
"Aha! Godspeed, Legion. May you rest in peace in android heaven."
"He's a robot, not an android."
"Barry, see this? This is a paycheck signed by EA. It doesn't give a f**k."

Nahhhh, speculations, man.  But seriously, I fail to see how the galaxy at large would be okay with Reaper rule, and there's no way you can have your brain so radically altered and still be the same person.  But that is my interpretation and THIS IS NOT AN ENDING THREAD.  Go back in your corner!

Also, you just inadvertently showed me a typo in my OP!  Thanks, gonna fix that now!

The Reapers don't rule the Galaxy. They simply act as Peacekeepers. Unless if you're Renegade.

Yeah it certainly does suck to be a Geth when you put it that way. I've head canoned that the Crucible destroys all synthetic hardware. Not software. So the Geth just need sufficient hardware to run again. They're memories and personalities still remain.

So true

The geth remind me of that cute bouncing lamp from Pixar.  So when I pick destroy (that's every game ever apart from the odd refuse) I can't help but think I've just blown up millions of adorable bouncy lamps with souls ....the image haunts me Posted Image

You know, it's beginning to really bug me the way you people keep on lamenting the fate of the geth when you're the ones killing them. This state of affairs is entirely your doing.

I actually think there's more to it.

I mean, if the Reaper code upgrade is applied to all the Geth, wouldn't that just make them just as they were, controlled by the Reapers or at least aligning with the Reapers goals? And it's basic code; applying it would not destroy the carrier.

So what I think happened was that the code was applied, but in order to overwrite the Reaper allegiance part, Legion had to essentially tear his consciousness apart and apply it to the reaper code as well. He couldn't use a copy of himself to do it because at the time his consciousness had already evolved to the point of a singular being, making any and all backups no longer applicable. The backups would probably go overlooked under periods of intensive calculation, application and code-evolution.

That's my own speculation on the process.

Also, to be more on topic, yeah. It does suck to be the Geth. I have my own theories that would explain a Geth/EDI survival, but unfortunately that can only really exist as headcannon right now.

Refuse is arguably more ethical...

Then enjoy your superior organocentric morality and stop lamenting what you believe to be the most ethical choice as if you wanted to do something else, when you could have and didn't.

IT'S COMPLICATED OK?!

No. It's not. You're making it complicated because you don't have the stomach to face up to what you actually fear, instead of blindly shooting away at a problem to make it hopefully go away despite the genocidal collateral damage.

*shrugs* Beats being ruled by/fused with Reapers.  Seriously, we've been over this.  Drop it.

(Also there's a lot of irony and tongue-in-cheek humor going on here.  Bioware didn't take the endings seriously, so why should we?)

So you're saying that I can't be mortified by my own actions when I'm the one doing said action?

Cool then. *Shoots wife, child, and then nukes an entire city* Nope. I obviously feel no pain for my actions whatsoever.

"most ethical" suggests any of the choices are ethical...
Every choice is unethical...

Destroy is the "least unethical"...
