For water I don't know what they could do with that but if the can do it than I won't complain.

I can't think of a new element spell tree. I could think of new spells that fit inside the existing trees though.

It always translates to "ice" and I hate that. ((Much like Lightning always takes "Wind/Air"s place.

Though not "elements" - things like:
Smoke - defensive
Allergens - debuffs
Temporary Summons - attack
Concordance - spells that level the field between lesser and greater. (Example: Hit Points/Mana stolen from an opponent with greater)
Destruction - debuffs based off of damaged gear. Highest spells actually destroy enemy items.
Artifice - buffs based off allied gear. Example: Sharpen Blade adds a Bleed Effect to any blade.

I'm trying to think of an actual water attack that would make sense. The holding them in water idea's interesting for a story. But gameplay wise it would Hemorrhage or Crushing Prison. I guess there's nothing wrong with that unless you take offense at "I put that guard underwater for like 40 seconds and it just cost him a little over half of his health points! He should have drowned!"
I do like the idea of smoke/fog though to give the party a defense boost.

I really want a necromancer class. Bloodmage is about controlling the living, so there should be a class exclusive in controlling the dead.
This I can get behind. It would involve calling spirits from the Fade and placing them in corpses. We know characters can do this and there was even a Spirit class spell in Origins for it. An entire tree or spec devoted to raising corpses and summoning spirits would be cool.

You are gaining immortality and power by "becoming dead".
I could even see "paths" -
Path of the Behemoth: Arcane Warrior type creating a stronger/more durable character.
Path of the Lich: Augmentations that assist spellcasting... turning you into something that resembles one of those Arcane Horrors perhaps.

I actually hate undead summoning necromancers.
====
As for water:
Dehydrate - damage over time
Water Jet - you can cut through stone with water, it "is" the universal solvent after all. People really underestimate it's capacity for damage. Even the pressure from a fire-hose would kick someone's ass.
Water Shield/Water Form - surround yourself in a globule of water for defense.
Geyser - jet of water throws an enemy into the air and they take damage when they fall.
Bloat - slows and reduces attack power

Perhaps have only one or two forms you shape into (a tank and a faster lithe form) and the rest of the tree is made up of passives similar to how Vampire Lords and Werewolves are in Skyrim: Dawnguard.

I thought you wanted something fresh and original?
If something should be added, I would gear it more toward buffs and debuffs that can be dispelled and strengthened. This was already present in DA:O but sadly lacking in two. It makes mages a lot more interesting and varied.

Combining the words - which would mean casting them in a specific order - would create massive effects (since it would take longer to make the combinations).
Or - you could cast them, and then a normal spell to create a new effect.

They need to bring back spell combonations. I miss storm of the century.

That's demon stuff man. You gotta have a demon all up in you to do that.

Anyway I would like to see blood magic expanded to reanimating/controlling the dead as it's supposed to be able to do.
And earth/nature magic that doesn't suck.

I would also like to see elemental spirits. That might seem like it doesn't fit the lore, but I figure if a spirit can be ripped from a forest, it could be ripped from a lake or a volcano too. Or maybe we could simply have spirits that embody an element of nature as their 'idea' rather than pride, desire, audacity, justice, faith, etc.
