If all else fails, spread your characters out with ranged weapons, hold them in place, and start firing. When the Ogre goes for one, use him as a rabbit and let the ogre chase him around while the others snipe. Eventually the ogre will change targets. Let your runner hold in place and start firing, swtich to the Ogre's new target, and have him lead the ogre on a chase while everyone else snipes. Rinse and repeat. That poor bastard can't be in four places at once, and he's really not quick enough to catch anyone running. The occasional acid flask hurts as well.

The ogre was a real bear on my first playthrough, but on subsequent games now that I've learned a lot more about the game and it's combat system, it goes down pretty fast. Just learn to conserve some good stuff like ice/fire bolts/arrows and acid flasks as your fight your way up, and then expend them here.

Be sure to learn Tactics system and how to get around its faulty logic.

Strategy for the first ogre can vary depending on your PC. In addition to what has been mentioned, another option is to hit it hard and gather threat yourself, then run around avoiding it while it dies from being pummeled by all the other party members. Really silly and takes longer than using the entire group effectively, but it still works because enemy AI ignores damage while prefering threat rating over almost any other concern (aside from AoE damage, perhaps).

It would be easier to give you advice would we to learn your parties composition. What class and origin is your character? Level? What spells or talents have been selected?

For the most part I can say this. Alistair should have taunt if you've talented him correctly as should at least one of the other party members. Try having one of them taunt initially and then, once they have fallen or are very nearly dead, have the other taunt. Properly manage this can double the amount of time the ogre is being safely tanked at a minimum and should provide ample opportunity to deal enough damage to bring the beast down, even on nightmare.

Depending on your talents/spells and those of your companions, some of the following may also be useful in addition to what others have mentioned.

Shield Bash. Pinning Shot. Cone of Cold. Mind Blast. Any of the Hex spell line. Glyph of Paralysis.

Basically, you want to hold it still if you can, knock it down or immobilise it if you can, prevent your team being grabbed and smashed, and hit it with all you've got that will damage it - poison and bombs can help here too.

... or, if you are a healer mage, simply stand back and heal / buff your allies while they blast the crap out of the thing... :D

I had two soldier/archers with me who were taking turns taunting from opposite ends of the room while everyone else brought the pain including the archers... lather, rinse, repeat.
