This is ridiculous. How do you use animate face to simply make a smile?!

All I want to do is have the companion smile in the cutscene.

There is no playanimation that makes your character smile.

So obviously I should use "Animate face". But there is just a blank space for the FXA.  Is there a basic list somewhere of Face FXA files?

humanfemale.fxa is the default. But what are the others?

I tried using facefx but it seems complicated just to make your character smile.

*sigh*

This is my last obstacle.

As soon as I figure this out or if someone can help me i'll edit the wiki and add the tutorial.

Animate Face is a mystery.

I haven't tried anything like that, but can't you do an NPC line, put action text like "Smiles happily" and select happy/overjoyed for the Emotion on the Cinematics tab? ETA: that's assuming you mean a dialogue pseudo-cutscene; if you mean a cinematic cutscene, I really have no idea, sorry.

I tried that but it forces me to use voice overs.

I ended up unpacking the entire anims.erf and just using the search feature that comes with windows.   Opening up anims.erf with the toolset doesn't let you search for anything lol.

A lot of facial animations are labeled as:

cs_f
cs_male.f
cs_male.f_brows
cs_male.f_mouth

I found all the ones I needed.

If anyone needs help locating certain facial animations to be used as SIMPLE EXPRESSIONS without voice then respond here and I will help you.

you could make a list or expand the one on the wiki. Facial expressions would help me a great deal too.

Might have to wait until 2010.

I know you already found a solution, but I wondered if you'd tried a blank, 3 to 4 second audio file for the VO? It seems like it would be an easier way of doing it for future dialogue, and "should" cause the camera to focus on the NPC for the duration of the sound file, without any audible VO.

I tried this but it failed horribly.

However I encourage you guys to try it as well to see if it works.

But ultimately I found the .ani for facial expressions.

I'll make a list soon enough.

If you guys don't want to wait, unpack anims.erf using tazpn's tools (found in projects by doing search for tazpn).  Unpack anims.erf into a folder and you can use windows defeault search.  Look for things like "Mouth", "smile", "Angry". And then use that filename in your playanimation.

Have you tried setting the track animation to "cs_male.f_mouth_smile" ?

Yup :P

I had to unpack the anims.erf to search for all those files.
