I'm not sure what a warrior or mage do, but I'm playing DAO and when fighting the Ogre, a rogue warden will do a spectacular sync-kill where she stabs it several times before jumping (in slow-motion!Posted Image) into the air and landing her blade in it's face. As I recall, Dragon Age 2 didn't have any of this.

Def need to bring this sort of stuff back for DA3!!

Imo, it would really help make the combat feel more alive, in DA2 I found it was fairly repetitive without any sort of awesome animations like that.

What do you guys/gals think?

I loved how sometimes both me and another companion would do the sync-kill at the same time

Eh, it was kind of awesome the first time, not so much after. Especially if another party member also got the sync-kill, and you are just watching a weird amalgam of two characters going through the same animations.

I really enjoyed my warden doing it as well as watching Leliana and Alistair do it

Please no... No No No No. NO! It lost it's charm the first time, after that it became very annoying, more so when there was more then one of the ogres or a bunch of darkspawn went to go stabhappy on Leli or Morrigan because my Warden or Sten was too busing riding a ogre.

Cutscene sure, but not in gameplay. The length and slow mo makes it annoying and really ruins the combat.

I prefered the DA2 cutscene finishers by far.

Warrior does pretty much the same thing as rogue. Mage doesn't have finishers I don't think. I agree though I want finishers back.

And who is to say they can't just make more finishing moves so its not the same thing over and over. I alway though it was awesome that after a long fight I do a finisher and I am just sitting there watching like YEAH!

Mages only got finishers in DA:A and DA2 because of the cutscene finishers, which where unique for them.

Yeah gameplay wise I don't think the mages had finishers. They could do something cool for DA3 though.

They don't, only warriors/rogues did and that's because they had both had duel wield tree. Play as an archer and your character won't do any finishers at all.Only people swining a sword got them, some where cool but alot of them like the ogre where horrible as it broke the flow of combat or got Morrigan/Leli killed because there was no one to keep the mobs of darkspawn from them. This is a big problem at the Battle of the city. I will only support gameplay finishers if they are quick with no slo-mo crap.

The ogre kill animation was cool at first, but after killing one after the other and doing the same animation, which effectively removes the character from combat, it got old.

I'd prefer for these kinds of killing animations to be reserved for cut scenes and boss fights, not common enemies.  The decapitations, I did like, because they were quick and didn't take my warden out of the fight, which can be bad if the tank is busy stabbing an already-dead ogre when they need to fire off a taunt asap.

i'm not sure how i would feel about bringing it back. for me, it would depend on what the overall combat mechanics on the next game feel like. that being said...

that graphic NEVER got old for me. every time i played DAO (and family) i made sure every character with a sword got at least one good ogre kill in, just because that finisher was sooo much fun to watch.

Same, I thought was really cool and always got disappointed if I killed one and didn't do it.

The lack of sync-kills was one of the things I hated in DA2. And of course it really showed how badass my Warden was when she stabbed the ogre two times with the rather blunt two handed mace she was carrying

I liked it the first time, but after that I hated it. The ones that took too long just hurt me instead because I was open to free attacks without any way to do anything against it.

Some of them where good, like the quick 360 chop head off thing, but the ogre stabbiness, 3 slashes from a DW'er etc....ARGH!!!!!!!!

My characters tend to jump the wrong way when killing the ogre, it looks ridiculous. Dragon killing is better, but I don't think I've seen one properly synced yet. Besides, that means I can't use that character for several seconds :/ If they're going to add them to DA3, I hope it comes with an off-button.

This. With an on/off  option, everyone  will be happy . I loved the kill-animations in origins, and hope they will be back in DA3. The more, the merrier! :)

I think it should go slo-mo for all "cool kills" like critical killshot that results in decapitation or taking out 4 enemies in a single fireball.

Totally agree. It was awesome with the first Ogre at Ostagar and then... not so much. Especially when something goes wrong and you see your character stabbing the air while the Ogre is dying somewhere else.

I actually don't like slo-mo finishers/animations in any game, unless it's Max Payne of course.

They don't have time to make everything in the game an option toggle.

Seems like the arguments for and against boil down to "it disrupts combat mechanics, potentially leading to companion deaths" versus "it looks cool."

The first argument against seems to carry more weight.

The animation is not cool if it affects the ability of that character to execute the commands I give for several seconds. The animation can happen at any time during a battle. Like the time my warden and party were engaging the darkspawn at Cardin's Cross. Alistair was low on health killed an ogre and was trapped in the kill animation. Alistair was still being struck by arrows so by the time the animation finished he was unconscious. That is not cool. If the animation affects the combat that for me is a non-starter.
