BioWare cant decide to go with or without Shepard. It's EA who owns the Bioware, and if Electronic Arts wont be happy about the sales of no-Shepard Mass Effect games, Shepard will be back in next game.

If BW resist not to bring Shepard and move on with another ideas, like Bungie on MasterChief, EA will simply give the job to someone else.

Master Chief, Commander Shepard, Snake, these kind of characters became pretty much Rambo, Terminator or Transformers of game industry, as long as there's a demand to see these characters, developers always will obey to the clients.

Making a Mass Effect game without Shepard is like making a Rambo movie without Stallone or Transformers without Optimus Prime.

If you dont put another strong character who'll disable the effect of Shepard, every ME game will fail on sales, and in the end, like i said first, EA will have to make the game with Shepard like Microsoft did with Halo 4.

If they do that (and especially if they do that with Synthesis), the amount of rage, whine and butthurt will be so immense that it will create a reality-warping black hole of negative emotions that will collapse on itself, possibly drowing the entire universe in severe depression, forcing it to unmake itself to save itself from pain.

Would Bioware really risk that?

Ya, synthesis would definitely make me want to puke, but it would be kind of interesting if the new protoganist plot was to reverse synthesis or even control.

I really do not see Synthesis being made the "canon-choice". Same goes for Blue.

Not only due to them being the more out-there options - I mean, calling them utopeia and apotheosis fits all to well for comfort, and usually BW depicts such options as not too good ideas, doubly true of Blue even as is -, but also because Red already establishes itself as the most solid point to continue a game from, what with its cliff-hanger et al.

Even if Shepards are sent to retirement following ME3, definite mention of that in such a sequel would definitely work in my view. Anything else, like a prequel? Not so much.

Then again, if BW manage to disappoint in that regard - and the track-record on their SP-front is not exactly too great, is it - I'll just shrug and continue on exclusively playing ME3-MP, which bizarrely enough is the only thing that captivates my attention anymore from ME.

Sad. However, if Bioware did give context on what happened afterwards with the galaxy, Shep, and his crew, during the new game I would greatly appreciate it.

Basically, it's like admitting that they killed Shepard off the Destroy ending too.

How do you figure that out? There's no reason why Shepard should have to be at the forefront of everything going on in the galaxy post ME3. Quite honestly he deserves a chance to settle down and leave it to someone else.

I have no idea why everyone is so angry at this. I don't want to play another game as Shepard.

It's about time we play someone completely new, in a completely different context. Playing as an Alliance Soldier was fun for three games (well, 2), but the story needs to change to keep me interested.

I'd also like to know why Shep is being compared to Master Chief. Master Chief did not die at the end of Halo 3, not in the regular ending or the Legendary ending.

Because they're just getting rid of this character. They killed him/her off with the worst possible ways. They're not even planning a post-endings DLC so we'll never see Shepard again and we're stuck on this damn cliffhanger, most of the Destroy choosers who are still waiting to see the character alive. To me, it's basically liked they just didn't care about the character anymore.

I can't honestly say that I am excited for Mass Effect 4. I guess I am still bitter.

That's what mine does. If Teddie's dies in a pile of rubble that's his prerogative. Mine will attend the memorial service. ^_^

Same for me. An intake of breath is not closure and anyone who argues otherwise is either stupid or on EA's payroll.

We won't get a Shepard-ish character either (i.e., a soldier who's the galaxy's only hope).

I say go space spy or space detective route.

Don't worry Shepard will return in ME4, with Synthesis as canon ending and Liara as canon LI, SUPERMAC STRIKES AGAIN

This isn't really news. They've been saying this even before ME3 came out.

I'm just curious about what type of conflict they're willing to come up with.

I think this is something BioWare has been saying since Mass Effect 2.

Personally I don't care one way or the either, but I think there are people on both side of the argument that won't buy the game if Shepard doesn't return and others that won't if they do bring him back. The problem I do see happening if they do bring Shepard back is they are going to have to find some new more powerful enemy then the Reapers and I really don't want the game to go into that direction, for the Reapers were bad enough.

I remember that very well, and everyone's response was: of course. that's fine. as long as there is real closure to the story.

ya, about that.

Exactly. Taking a breath is not closure. How hard is that to understand?

Did they say if they were going forward in the series? That would probably cause more rage than Shepard being in the story.
