I have no problem with the no more Shepard as i did not expect Shepard to return again.
For the rest we will see what they do but i don’t want a prequel in the same Mass Effect universe or anything to do with Synthesis.
I completely agree with this. In response to the OP's metaphor, I would say Mass Effect 4 without Shepard is closer to Star Trek without Captain Kirk than James Bond without James Bond and Star Trek without Captain Kirk did work.
I am more concerned about BioWare cannonizing the synthesis ending.

Im done with the universe. ME! and @ were worth the investment ME3 ruined I won't even bother with ME4 its a joke such a thing is even getting made without first giving ME# a way to win. This franchise can not be trusted to deliver quality. I have 0 interest in ME4 not because of the lack of Shepard but because this company cannot be trusted anymore to tell a coherent story that leaves you feeling good at the end. They can take their ME4 and their artistic integrity and stick it in their ass.
Feel good, you mean like, there's no pure-happy ending.
This is an issue with so many people I can't believe they play the game where actions are supposed to have 'consequences'. I guess they should stick (NOT ALWAYS 100% POSITIVE) in there for clarification.
Maybe I just think that endings are good because I played so much Witcher where there's no 'good' choice.

They already said that a million times before the release of ME3.

Starting from scratch in the same universe is an extremely wise storytelling move, as long as they somehow make it clear how everything transitions from the end of ME3 to the new narrative. I applaud this decision---in theory, at least.

I have no desire to see Shepard again. Shepard is a legend and should be left to history (in the ME universe). My concern is just this: that BW will contradict itself at the nudging of EA and the dollar and will be forced to bring back Shepard (or at least have him make a cameo for the sake of selling).

I actually like the idea of a loss through refuse for low EMS. but if my EMS is high and I brokered peace between quarians and geth, got the rachni on board and the Krogan turians and salarians then I want a refuse win even if the only way to win is if my Shepard bleeds out on the crucible. I would watch the galactic forces defeat the reapers and then get the end scene where your LI puts your name up on the Normandy wall but its a new age for sentient life in the galaxy free from reaper control and for the first time charting their own destiny among the stars all brought about by Shepards unwavering belief that a united galaxy can save themselves when brought together to celebrate their shared common values while respecting each others differences. I confusingly thought this was the premise and theme of all 3 games.

mass effect without the main charactor of the series is like james bond without bond.
you cannot take out the person that made the mass effect series, after the total screw up of mass effect 3 the damage that the now EX-CEO's attitude towards the people that made bioware damaged the franchise as well as biowares reputation.
the ONLY way for all of this to be fixed is to release a post me3 SP mission and i dont mean a couple of hours i mean something that takes at MINIMUM 6 hours to fix the ending and give our shepard the ending that WE WANT.
look at thegears of war series, the ending was what everyone wanted, OUR fenix gets a happy ending abet with the loss of his father but we still got the ending we wqanted, it gave us satisfaction knowning the person we gave YEARS of our life dedicated to our char but we were satisfied.
mass effect 3, so many pre-release interviews, so many promises so many garentee's so much stuff promised and guess what, EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS BROKEN, we then had CEO'sderate and belittle US, the people that BOUGHT THE GAME and now those CEO's are quitting because they cannot take critisisim and yet they STILL berate and belittle US.
mass effect 4, no shepard and were to play a soilder, thats NOTHING new because we all know why, oh yeah multiplayer, being a soilder gives then soooooooooo many new options, na i dont think so toss in the fact we cannot import our save is obviously going to be true.
so this is why i wont be getting mass effect 4 unless it is shepard, remember bioware LISTEN TO US WE KNOW GAMES better than you on that front.
Last time I read the title on all three packages said: "Mass Effect..." and not "Shepard, the N7". The trilogy is Shepard's story, but it takes place in the Mass Effect universe. So if they want to tell tales about the universe in which Shepard's story took place, why couldn't they?
Oh people, suck it up already and lets not behave like spoiled and entitled little children.
And it's only just a bold guess, but I think no one will force you to buy the game, so maybe you won't have to.

Let move one, lets tell someone else's story. If they put in the time to develop the characters and plot properly, I think it has the potential to be even better than Shepards' story.

I'd argue she died in all 4, but thats another discussion.

They can take out the main character, didn't you notice they don't mind making stupid decisions.
Also I was disappointed with Gears of war 3.
Didn't get an epilogue and I didn't get to see Anna do something naughty.
Not only that I wanted to see the queen get a future too.
None of that happened.
Gears 3 had a great ending.
Ending it on a sex scene would have been freaking retarded.

Sorry but what you want and what bw want for the ending are two different things.frostajulie wrote...
Sorry apparently I hold the shift key down on my laptop no idea why. Let me be clear Shepards death is fine. but I want a refusal victory. with refusal I am able to beat the game on my own terms and not dictated to by the AI at the end. I was really certain Bioware was going for a victory through unity strength in diversity feel good ending I even love the idea of Shepard dying but in the process setting the galaxy up for that epic win. Then at the end of ME3 the synthetic organic argument reappears and shifts the focus away from the united victory the rest of the game and indeed series had been leading up to. It was discordant and jarring and confusing and so when offerred between control (become your enemy), synthesis(genetically manipulate all sentient life in the galaxy without their consent and no idea of the true consequences), or destroy (for me an act of genocide- the spirit of the word not literal interpretation), or refuse and bet on humanity and the united forces of the combined galaxy I chose the only emotionally satisfying choice available refuse. Then I lost.
I actually like the idea of a loss through refuse for low EMS. but if my EMS is high and I brokered peace between quarians and geth, got the rachni on board and the Krogan turians and salarians then I want a refuse win even if the only way to win is if my Shepard bleeds out on the crucible. No matter how much you scream, have a fit, protest, or pout.....They are not going to change the ending.
If that ends you relation ship with ME...Then it's best to get the going.
